Lieberman, good. Lootiemaye, bad.
And this is one of the biggest flaws of our stupid party. We've got party bosses going around telling us - DEMOCRATS - that we need to blend in with the wallpaper/bend and scrape for the fringes of our party so that we can retain majority.
Guess what? That's asinine!
Let's start with the DLC: I thought the electorate made it clear that we don't want a neocon agenda. Apparently, it takes a fricken boulder to the head to get through to some of these lobbyists/politicians who think they know it all.
WE DON'T WANT NO STEENKIN' NEOCON AGENDA!!!
Guess what? We're going to get it, anyway. We're going to get it because the party bosses didn't sink enough money into the Lamont campaign after Lieberman (N)eocon, LOST his primary and ran AGAINST the democrats. Now, we've got Lieberman (N) to contend with, because he wants to keep his seniority and head Homeland Security for all the nice republicans who voted him in.
Does anyone here think Lieberman (N) will NOT caucus with and retain his seniority with the democrats? It's easy when you can blackmail, huh?
That's why democrats are perceived as being freaking weak. They are! Everytime someone says boo! to them, they scurry away like a bunch of weak toadies and leave everything to the blasted neocons in our party.
Let's just get along. Ain't that just nifty? We're the Get Along Gang.
That's why we wandered in the wilderness for 12 years while the neocons in the DLC played patty cake with our democratic party bosses and grabbed more power.
And after all, kissy face works - doesn't it? It's worked for the past 12 years, hasn't it? My guess is that we can all kiss off any Constitutional right to vote or any right to choice when it comes to writing a freaking name down on a piece of paper and having it counted by PEOPLE because our party bosses just want to play patty cake with people who aren't even democrats, while they throw democrat voters to the wolves.
I don't play patty cake. I don't have enough time. I will not play patty cake with the Greens. Guess what?

With his good years behind him. He already served our country. Fact is, that he was a wilted flower when it really counted and that was when the republican party gunned for his own family. McCain's response?

I was horrified when JoMotion was applauded upon...
entrance into the Senate, Instead of applause, he should have been shunned. You could almost hear the Triumphal March rom the opera Aida being played loudly in the background.
Shunning, the turning of one's back to the imposter, would have shown Joe that he is not a Dem...is not welcome in the party, and that he will have to seek succor from his flakey friends amongst the Repugnants.
Sure, we might lose the Senate...but for the time being, Joe is sitting there holding a loaded shotgun...and he can fire it at any time.

Lieberman only got about 33% of the Dem vote in CT...
Repugs voted for him and got him through. As a result, Joe is up for sale to the highest bidder. It seems obvious that he will switch parties(ala Zell Miller)when the price is finally right.
I heard that Molly was sick again. She has fought a heck of a fight and kept her sense of humor in her pieces about politics. It was her humor that has helped many of us through these very bad years for the country.

LootieMaye, the fringe Parties and "Independent" drop-outs will be with us forever. Even if they were to, by some miracle, attain any meaningful political power, they would still not be happy.
Their collective basic message is that "power corrupts." They conveniently forget that this also applies to them and their "leaders." Removing the lust for power, and greed, from politics is a minus-sum game, because the corporate power brokers are the ones who really control the process -- and reap the profits.
When the Founders wrote the Constitution, there were no mega-corporations -- only big plantation owners. The buying of the US government began with the Industrial Revolution, and has rapidly matured in recent years. The Democrats have traditionally passed legislation to rein in this power, and the Republicans have traditionally nurtured it.
Growing tired of the back-and-forth of the free election process, the power brokers decided to put their feet in both camps. The aristocratic "neos," both conservative and liberal, are in fact just the same combined arm of the real movers and shakers: Big Business.
So while the Greens, Independents, LaRouchers, and Libertarians fight their windmills (and us), it is left to patriotic Middle Americans to fight the real enemies of our Constitution. The economic terrorists in our own country are far more of a threat than a rag-tag bunch of religious fanatics with explosives supplied by Halliburton.
I understand all that, but
Why would I grab the skunk at the garden party and dance a few rounds with him? Our lives are simply not long enough to spend a lot time playing silly mind games with people whose ideology rules their days, even if it means dragging the entire nation down into the shitter with them.
You'll have to excuse me today. I found out that Molly Ivins is having a third recurrence of breast cancer. While the wet finger politicians in DC are dancing with the minority and calling it 'bi partisanship,' people like Molly are fucking dying because stem cell research offends someone's ideology. That ideology, it seems, must be respected even if people freaking die, and simply because there are wet finger retards in DC who believe that we have to play patty cake with imbeciles just to win elections.
I'd prefer moral victory.

Sorry to hear about Molly, and our family's thoughts go out to her (and to you).
I don't believe that it is "ideology" all by itself that is holding stem-cell research back. I believe that Big Medicine is manipulating the RR to protect their obscene profits by using phony "moral issues" to slow down any medical breakthroughs, until they can regroup and figure out how to cash in on stem-cell procedures.
Just as Detroit fights fuel-efficiency and new automotive technologies, the K Street medicine men want to control all aspects of advancing medical technologies. Morals, ethics, and helping mankind are the furthest things from their greedy little minds.
As long as our professional politicians -- the "neos" -- dance to their corporate masters' tunes, we will continue to have a government that only goes through the motions of representing the American People.
