Don't squander my vote or my tax dollars on impeachment until the important things are taken care of!!

I'm shocked at this initiative and can't help but wonder whether there's a wolf (neocon) in Democrat's clothing behind this. I can't think of a better way to ensure that the Democrats will have a short-lived Congressional term than to pursue impeachment. Americans do want REAL change. I'm thrilled we Democrats won. However, the "...mobilization called ImpeachForChange..." might better be termed "IMMOBILIZATION for change". An impeachment initiative would literally squander the results of this election. Speaker Pelosi has it right: our newly elected Congress needs to focus on more important initiatives such as developing exit strategies from Iraq; putting an immediate halt to mistreatment of prisoners (including denial of due process and, first and foremost, putting an end to torture); beginning the real work of cleaning up the environment; enacting universal health care; securing social security; supporting Mexico in developing economic initiatives to lift half its population out of poverty and at the same time working out equitable means (e.g. with reasonable pay and legalization) for immigrant workers to continue their work in the U.S.; preparing community services to ensure that the 12,000 or more military personnel who will return to the U.S. with disabilities can live and work independently; raising the minimum wage; helping Darfur; establishing dialogue with Iran and N. Korea; regaining fiscal restraint; and the list goes on. Feel free to increase my taxes, but please DO NOT squander my tax money (or my vote last Tuesday) on impeachment until you accomplish the important tasks of finding constructive solutions to problems that 12 years of neocon mischief have created!! I have complete faith that our new Congress can accomplish what is needed, but I would not count (and I doubt history would count) impeachment as an accomplishment.

It is not about revenge at

It is not about revenge at all. It is about holding criminals accountable for their actions. The US Constitution provides the mechanism for this accountability, so why is it "wasteful" to uphold the Constitution?

Saddam killed far fewer people than Dubya and the neocons in Iraq, and he has been sentenced to death by hanging. Shouldn't our government hold its officials to the same standard of accountability if we are to be a "role model" for democracy? This is not to mention the Constitutional abuses to our basic freedoms by these criminals.

All of the things you mentioned need to be accomplished as well, and impeachment hearings can be prioritized to fit the agenda.

Justice is never trivial, and criminals should never be excused just because it is inconvenient to bring charges against them.

Thank you, Bill, and glad to see you are participating ...

Thank you, Bill, and glad to see you are participating in discussion again! We need you here! ;-)

Have all these people lost their minds, sense of civil duty and failed civics 101?

Sorry, but anyone that does not call for and agree with impeaching Bush is a coward and a Bush loyalist.

Impeachment is not only necessary but GOOD for democracy -- it provides for; and is a necessary cleansing of the massive film of filth built up around this president and a reminder to all who hold this office in the future to respect the rule of law.

The passion and patriotism

The passion and patriotism around here is incredible. We all woke up Wednesday morning with a huge weight lifted from our chests, anger and revenge are in the air.
I wonder if I would get in the way of the hanging. Nahhh.....

But we are a country of laws, and I see this as the begining of a new progressive era that, unlike our predessessors, will abide by the laws of the land.

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

It is their duty......they have to, by law, period.

So lets all sit back and enjoy the show, lets watch 41 and his crime family pals throw all the neocons into the fire in an attempt to not only salvage the family name but to hide all their letharious connections to the war profiteering that has made them who they are.

It won't happen overnight, but if we see John Conyers appointed to the right type of commitee the game will be afoot..!!!

YYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHH !!!!!

Change...you are absolutely dead on...

A nation of laws indeed. Not even 'great leader' is above the law. What he thinks is not important.

It will be quite a show. History is being made.

We may want to act immediately, but the delay will be the stuff of great movies and books.

EXACTLY

The constitution MANDATES Congress to act!! I also agree that this is not about revenge, we would be just as VIGILANT if the criminals in question were Democrats...period.

"As a Christian, I believe that Separation of Church and State is Vital, not only for the People's Protection from an overzealous Theocratic Regime, but also for the protection of Religion from suppression."

absolutely

It's our duty to impeach. TO not impeach would be UNAMERICAN.

John Conyers maybe saying it's off the table, but I think he's just saying that as the table is set the way it is now. Table settings are easy to change. Bring on the investigations. If we don't impeach these people then we will have failed the test of Democracy. These people are CRIMINALS.

I can't think of a better way to spend my tax dollars then hearings and investigations into this corrupt administration that has HARMED this country immeasureably. To think that we will get anything done without the threat of impeachment and the hearings etc, pressuring this administration is naive. The tax dollars spent doing this will do much to help our country's international reputation, they will realize that the American people are not to blame for this fiasco that the administration is, and will send a clear message to the Iraqis that we are holding to account the monster who sent our poor soldiers into their land. It would do more to calm down the situation there than probably anything else. That might save a few lives.

Besides, Justice is never trivial. It's important to pursue it. It's important that this be a nation of laws, and that we follow the Constitution of this land.

IMPEACHMENT says, "We're sorry!"

Everything that this poster said (Don't squander my vote or my tax dollars on impeachment until the important things are taken care of!!) is pretty much right on... except for one or two minor things: namely that BUSH AND CHENEY ARE CONTINUING THEIR WAR-FOR-PROFIT, WHICH IS MASS MURDER... THEIR DESTRUCTION OF AN ANCIENT CIVILIZATION, THEIR TORTURING/RENDITION TO TORTURE, THEIR DROPPING OF PHOSPHORUS ON CHILDREN AND BURNING THEIR TENDER SKIN AND EYES, THEIR POISONING IRAQ WITH DEPLETED URANIUM.. LEAVING LITTLE GIFTS FOR THE CHILDREN OF UNEXPLODED CLUSTER BOMBLETS, TRICKING OUR KIDS/SOLDIERS INTO FIGHTING HIS FILTHY AND INDECENT WAR AGAINST HUMANITY, THEIR WIRE TAPPING OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS, AND THEIR LOOTING OF AMERICA TO DO IT. AND, I MIGHT ADD... LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS WOULD RATHER BE "POLITICALLY CORRECT" THAN APPEAR PARTISAN ENFORCERS OF THE LAW OF THIS LAND AND THE WORLD.

So, as far as I'm concerned, these guys should be arrested and marched out of the white house (lower case, lower class) so they can do no more damage while the investigations are going on.

Impeachment is a process of investigation to find the truth, which writes their crimes into history. If it isn't written, it didn't happen. So let's get on with it... stop the killing. We can fix the rest of the stuff when their bloody hands have been removed from the helm.

This writer is so typical of the greedy self-interest, or disinterest, of the American people, who allowed this all to happen under their very noses. Americans: best entertained, least informed...and couldn't care less about other human beings... especially if they are not white. (I'm a white middle aged female, so don't even start with me. These evil sob's don't much like women, either.)

So, folks, get a grip. Just because the storm troopers aren't in YOUR neighborhood YET, doesn't mean they won't be as soon as Halliburton is finished building the prisons for our arrests. STOP THE WAR... STOP BUILDING THE DETENTION CENTERS FOR OPPOSITIONAL CITIZENS. AND STOP THE LOOTING OF THE U.S. TREASURY.

IMPEACHMENT NOW!!!

Squandering Tax Money - NOT

It is not either Impeachment or stopping the war. IT IS BOTH impeaching AND stopping the war, and stopping the wiretapping, stopping the torture, and stopping the "unitary President and his whole administration" and repealing the Military Commissions Act.
Certainly, it is short-sighted to think that ONLY 1 issue or focus (impeachment) will stop all or any of the other major issues from going forward. IF however, we do NOT impeach, Bush can use his signing statements to alter and go on with whatever plans he has, thus continuing to weaken the Congress.

Don't be duped into thinking you can now change a weak Congress to changing laws that Bush won't override. SO IMPEACHMENT must BE FIRST!

Wrong, wrong and more wrong! Bush MUST be Impeached!

Has everyone gone insane? Let Bush the butcher go? STOP IT!!!!

Bush must be impeached! He has committed more crimes against the Constitution than any other president in history!

This is NOT about political capital, but the rule of law!

You are DEAD-ASS wrong!

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Frank, I believe that these

Frank, I believe that these people have somehow come to believe that the impeachment process will overshadow everything else that needs to be done.

Introducing Aritcles of Impeachment is just the first step in the process. Once that has been accomplished, the agenda can be adjusted by priorities in order to accomplish the most urgent issues first, i.e., a strategy for leaving Iraq.

The "forgive and forget" crowd has been taken in by the centrists and the fringe groupies.

Maybe the "The "forgive and forget" crowd....

Maybe "The "forgive and forget" crowd should ask how all the dead soldiers' families feel, or the dead Iraqis' families feel, or all those that have been tortured, or all the laws -- our laws -- that Bush broke.

These people disgust me.....

:-(

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Frank has my vote and that of everybody I personally know. We

do not have a choice about impeaching Bush. Forget it. It is going to happen! It must happen! Across europe editorials are celebrating for us and with us. Can we face the world and tell them we are going to let Bush's crimes against mankind, his lies, his corruption, etc., etc., go by the board?

If we are to ever look the citizens of the world in the eye again, we must send the message that what George Bush did and is still doing is not what America is about!

There is no room for equivocation on this issue. So please get aboard the impeachment train or get the hell off the rails so you don't get run down! That is the message we are sending Bush, our Republican leaders, our Democratic leaders, and the world. Tommye

Thank you, Tommye!

Simply put, we cannot allow this to go on in our name. Ever. Not now, not ever.

LOL! "Can't we all just get along...?"

I appreciate what appears to be your generous nature; to call

actions by the Republicans "mischievious," however, makes me think that perhaps you are from a different planet than the one the rest of us live on.

Your tax dollars for the rest of your life, by the way, are long gone, my friend, owed to China by the billions! You have nothing to protect in that department. PaPa Bear and his mischievious little baby bears "ate it all up!"
As Tennessee Ernie sang, "I owe my soul to the company store," and so do we.

Who can possibly have faith in a new Democratic agenda that leapfrogs over the worst crimes by public officials in the history of this country? Impeachment is the first essential act on the Democrat's agenda and everything else will flow from that clean slate.

Thank you. Tommye

Finally I'm home - other people who aren't down with the DLC!

We have to "keep this Republic" (to mangle Ben Franklin). Impeachment sends a strong signal to the ruling class that We the People will not tolerate dictators or allow the installation of a police state to continue.

You won't find any friends here that support the DLC....

Just ask Bill Harding about the DLC! Be prepared for a worthy lecture series! ;-)

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

FUNHOUSE: I think you make a very important point that

politicians of both parties need to really absorb. Perhaps things had to get as bad as they did for Americans to take on the responsibility for how our politicians conduct our affairs. Well, the Republicans got my attention and the attention of others like me and like you. Now, a word to the wise to all politicians. Americans elect politicians - NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

I would like to see the procedure for recalling criminals in public office made very accessible to the men and women in America. Nip their illegal shit in the bud and get them out! We DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND MILLIONS TO IMPEACH A PRESIDENT and it should cost NOTHING to recall a Republican representative (or a Democratic representative) or senator.
In fact, I am going to explore that very subject.

Thank you, again, Funhouse. Tommye

The DLC

YUCK!

Those corporatists should be thrown out of the party completely! They aren't Democrats.

Hillary is nothing but a politician, in the worst sense of the

word. Check out some of the long-term polls - no one likes her! We keep putting the same near-dead horses back in yet another race. Put them out to pasture and get some new blood in the running.

We would be fortunate to have a man like Barack Obama in the White House. He is intelligent and he has a soul. When he looks in a mirror, his reflection stares back at him, unlike the soulless types we keep on, keep on, keep on electing! Tommye

Bill and others: Do you

Bill and others: Do you think that impeachment can be carried out in a way that it won't dominate the next two years? I believe impeachhment needs to happen and that Bush and Dork need to be help to account for their crimes, but to me there are other things that need to be done first. As a starting point we need (in no particular order) an Iraq solution, universal healthcare, an increased minimum wage, restoration of civil rights, an end to improper election practices, etc etc etc. Do you think we can get those (or at least some of them) done AND carry out impeachment proceedings in the next two years? I just worry about the next few years passing by and nothing but impeachment being achieved.

Call me a cynic, but I personally don't think we'll ever see impeachment happen. I think we will have some investigations and hearings and then the ranking dems will squelch it and drive congress towards achieving some of the other stuff I mentioned above, which I think they believe resonates more with the voting public. Again, I don't think that is a good thing (impeachment needs to happen at some point) but its what I think we will see.

I agree that priorities need

I agree that priorities need to be established. Stop for a moment however, and think how some of the "other things" you mention were all directly caused by Dubya's high crimes and misdemeanors.

Restoration of civil rights? An Iraq solution? Improper election practices? These are all issues that go to the heart of the crimes committed by this administration. During the course of finding solutions to these presssing matters, it is reasonable to assume that determining the causes of the need to fix them, will lead to the BA's doorstep. After all, these things were not broken before the BA stepped in.

Where these investigations lead will determine the speed and urgency of the need to move forward with appropriate accountability. If the uncovered facts and evidence call for eventual impeachment, the combined Houses of Congress will have no choice in the matter.

Bill, if I may chime in here with a crude analogy....

Your eloquent assessment is masterful -- as always -- and I will eschew my usually well-spoken self with a crude but effective analogy I put forth to my wife tonight:

Every body wants all of the shit cleaned up left in our "back yards by Bush." True enough, the shit needs to be cleaned up, but if you don't get rid of the dog that keeps shitting all over the place, you will only have more shit to deal with! Old dogs do NOT learn new tricks or behaviors!

Crass? Yes. Not my style...usually? Yes. Effective? You bet ya!

Just look at the push Bob Fertik has put together on this Blog. It is very well thought out and can and will work.

Bush will be impeached before the end of 2007. Mark my words. Don't believe me? Read John Conyers, "Constitution in Crisis report," The very man who will now chair the House Judiciary committee.

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Wouldn't a more logically valid reason be more viable?

[keep in mind that I do not disagree with your statement]

Have you not heard the statement 'Justice is just a nice word for revenge'? Would not the idea of preventing it from happening any further by these people or by any others be a less emotionally based, much more logically valid and more easily arguable reason? Please see the forum post at http://www.democrats.com/node/10952

If we cannot effectively argue the reasoning for impeachment then we cannot expect anyone to take it seriously enough to even try. This is what I am concerned about, far too many want to let it go or figure 'only 2 more years.' Which if you read the post I mentioned should make it clear that it would not end when they leave. If we cannot effectively convince those that say 'let it go', 'only 2 years', or other nay sayers then how could we ever convince a whole set of politicians that are nay sayers.

Since almost all politicians were lawyers, we need a solidly logical argument to present if we are to convince a bunch of lawyers as they are not swayed by emotional arguments.

What you are proposing is

What you are proposing is the basis for, and definition of, all forms of "justice."

By prosecuting, trying, and if found guilty, punishing accused criminals, the justice system sends a message to society in general that anti-social behavior is not accepted.

Anti-social behavior by an elected official who has accepted a position of trust, is all the more reprehensible and should be punishable by harsher measures. If the general public needs that explained to them in more simplistic terms, then we are indeed in trouble.

Yes we are in trouble.

Yes we are in trouble. Sadly, far too many posts here and at many other sites, as well as those I have spoken with, in person, make it clear that this is the case. I am not saying 'Justice' is invalid, as far as that word and other specific words are concerned, what I am saying is that most people give it a very emotional meaning for themselves. Most do not truly understand the definitions of Justice, justification, Justify, etc.. Most people do not think of most words as they are defined by any particular dictionary, each and every person has a slightly different idea of what any particular word means. But nonetheless, using an argument that avoids this and many other pitfalls may be our only hope. Especially when we will have to argue it 'over a table' so to speak, just to get this movement to be recognized by any individual, and as we all know having particular individuals stand behind a movement is the only thing that will make it happen. I am of coarse speaking of well-recognized individuals like Dean and others that do not fully support impeachment and how many people are easily swayed by such individuals.

If these highly recognized individuals can be publicly confronted with a nearly unopposable argument then they have little choice but to either change their public position on the matter or suffer the hit and cause a major portion of those people that sided with that person to change sides since they could not oppose the argument either very well or not at all.

Again, I am not disagreeing with the need for Justice to be served, I am saying that preventing these crimes from happening any further or in the future by anyone is a more important reason and also presents a more logical reasoning to stand by. When you say 'justice' most people do not think: 'ah yes, by prosecuting someone of a crime it makes it clear to the masses [sadly this is not really entirely true as when someone commits a crime they rarely think of those consequences any detail] that they will be convicted if they commit that crime themselves thus preventing that crime from being committed again (again this is obviously not true partially for the same reason).' It seems that when most people hear the word 'Justice' the first thing it brings to their mind is: 'ah yes, someone is paying for their crime' and obviously these are not the same thing. You may notice that the second sentence can convey an ideal of revenge and that may be part of why the saying "Justice is just a nice word for revenge” was ever made popular.

This is not to argue the meaning of a word, it is to present the fact we all consciously know that what the dictionary states is rarely what a person thinks when hearing a word.

Beyond that singular point, the majority of the idea is to give a reasoning that outreaches the past crimes, that you cannot go back and change, by directly conveying the idea that we cannot allow this to continue and, more importantly, must not allow to happen again by anyone (including, but not limited to, the current administration) in the future.

I would find the argument of making someone pay for what they already did harder to argue or stand by than the argument of preventing it from happening ever again by anyone.

I agree

That we need to hang some serious accomplishments up before we start impeachment. I am not saying the BA shouldn't be impeached, but as pointed out by RenoDem it will dominate the next two years. All our agenda will be pushed aside and ignored. I don't want to have to go into the elections two years from now having only accomplished impeachment. We need to act on some of the more bread and butter issues first. That is just my opinion though.

Rich, there is nothing more serious an agenda

Rich, there is nothing more serious an agenda than impeaching a criminal posing as a president. We owe it to the wrongfully dead, the two countries Bush tore apart; our and Iraq and the tremendous damage done to the Constitution.

Honestly, this president REMOVED Habeas Corpus and authorized torture. What could possible be more serious than that?

Ask your this:

How do you tell a man he needs to die in Iraq because we are too busy enacting a higher minimum wage for the rest of us?

You are a progressive, don't be selfish, people are dying...needlessly.

Think about.

Impeachment will give the U.S. a way out of Iraq

Mea Culpa, World and specifically the people of Iraq.

For the past 6 years we've had criminals running our country.

We will be providing the bulk of the UN Peace-keepers while we bring our troops home. We'll paint our helmets blue. We not leaving in defeat, we were led into an un-winnable war by people who serve their masters (Big Oil, Defense Industry, etc.). We pledge to do whatever we can to help rebuild Iraq.

Sincerely,

Uncle Sam

We were defeated the moment we stepped into Iraq.

We were defeated the moment we stepped into Iraq. Liars can never be winners, its just that simple.

Victory must be defined by the American people proclaiming they were lied to, this war is not in our name, and we -- as stewards of our own nation of democracy -- are responsible for correcting the heinous wrong-doings of Bush.

Our soldiers out of Iraq, restore our image around the world and diplomatic solutions to solving the middle-east problems -- that we created -- is the only true victory we can attach our collective minds, hearts, souls and true patriotism to.

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Yes, impeachment is a face-saving way out of Iraq. Still, there

is nothing wrong in admitting we elected a criminal who has run amuck for six years and he was wrong for invading Iraq and our Republican (and a handful of Democrats) were wrong in allowing him to do that.

WE WERE WRONG. WE ARE SORRY.

Point of Information

We NEVER elected the Bush gang. Foxes wearing tuxedos in the hen house are still foxes.

Rich, please see my response

Rich, please see my response to RenoDem below. During the course of "fixing" what the BA has criminally accomplished (read screwed up) will provide the necessary evidence for impeachment.

Impeachment need not be an all-exclusive endeavor and it need

not cost millions of dollars. In fact, that it should cost millions of dollars is ludicrous.

Those opposing impeachment want it to be like some astronomical undertaking because they know that hundreds are involved in the illegalities, bribes and that some of those hundreds are still in the house and senate.

What you speak of will never be "fixed" without impeachment!

Not one of these things you speak of is likely to be fixed without impeachment, and certainly not even a majority of them could be. Not just while this administration is in power, but for all time to follow!

While individuals like these, and not just these ones but any that may ever follow, are in power they will always use every resource, every ounce of influence, every waking breath to prevent any and all of these things from ever being "Fixed” (providing we do not investigate for impeachment), and with their cheating ways they are very likely to succeed! This is not to mention the fact that even just a handful of these things could take a great many years to fix, far beyond any realistic chance to consider impeachment proceedings. If you read the forum statement here: http://www.democrats.com/node/10952 It makes it quite clear that without impeachment it leaves the doors open for any and all that follow to continue to prevent and stop any "Fixing" of any thing you have mentioned, and to create whole new problems none of us have even dreamed of yet!

Additionally, to further prevent any similar abuse of power and to allow such things you have mentioned to be "Fixed" at all, a clear and obvious precedence, or 'message' if you will, needs to be made that these acts are NOT ACCEPTABLE, and will not be tolerated. The alternative is far worse than trying and failing as not even trying makes a clear and profound statement that all these things that have happened are perfectly acceptable (which is what we are currently experiencing), and leaves plenty of room for much more horrendous and unthinkable things (which is what we will continue to experience while we do not). Only with that precedence of impeachment in place, could we ever make any real attempt to fix any of these things, and of course this can only be achieved by following through with an investigation for impeachment.

With the fact you cannot fix all those things without this one thing, how could you think any of those things are even remotely as important as impeachment?

Edit:

To fix the multitude of different problems, think of it this way: Without impeachment we would be working against the idea that every thing that was done (that caused or are these problems) was acceptable and OK, but with impeachment we would be working with the idea that everything he did was proven illegal IN COURT and these things could be easily overturned in a flash.
Even just going through the investigation for impeachment would make every single one of those things easier to get done mostly because of two factors: They would all be officially in question as illegal, and the investigations would coincide with each other and would have two sets of investigators working to solve each problem.

snoweymom is 100% right.

I got the email for impeachforchange in my inbox yesterday. I think the hard thing to
do as a democrat in this time is to try to balance all of the rhetoric from both sides
of the group. I'm a middle of the road democrat. Yes I believe that Bush is bad. I
think his policies are terrible and that his cowboy diplomacy is ruining the world's
opinion of us. I also think that there were many things that happened during his administration that needs to be closely examined for fraud. But I shudder when someone from the far left wears a shirt that proclaims that Bush is no better than Hitler. I don't like Bush but I'm not going to make that comparison. If we are going to effect real change we need to be careful of stuff like this. Because in my mind it brings division in our ranks. And also it brings down our credibility. If we are going to do this we have to be united as one body. Pelosi has her own ideas about how the country should be run but she will compromise and table those so that she can unify the party. One of the reasons that the republican's lost this election in my mind was because they forgot that. They were so far right that the people who are middle of the road conservative felt terrible and voted democrat. Even my mom who voted for Nixon voted for our democratic challenger in this election!

In my view impeachment is the same deal. I remember sitting on the sidelines when I was a republican when the far right was talking about impeachment proceedings against Clinton. Now I didn't like him. But I don't think his misdeeds would warrant that. I also thought that impeachment of this president would do more harm than good to America itself. It would divide those that loved Clinton and those that abhorred him. I also found it funny btw that those republicans that questioned everything he did in office were the same ones who said, "You can't question President Bush, He's the president!!"

Anyway I believe impeachment now will do the same thing. Why not bring about something amazing like free healthcare for every American or extremely low cost college for every child? This in my mind would do FAR more than an impeachment proceeding against Bush ever would. When the civil war was over Abraham Lincoln wanted to unite this divided country. He did NOT want any grudges to be carried out or enacted Against those that held rifles and imprisoned their cousins and brothers. He wanted strictly to concentrate on rebuilding this great nation. “…With Malice toward none, and Charity toward all.” Unfortunately he was assassinated before this could be accomplished. We should not forget what he was trying to do.

I’m not saying investigations are not warranted because they are. Especially when it comes to corruption. But I think impeachment would destroy this country.

when the civil war was over....

the rightwing freakshow (every big tent needs a freak show) has been firing shots across the bow of the constitution for years while too many americans were oblivious to that fact. impeachment could rivet peoples attention on our founding documents and the ground rules contained therein. what an educational experience it could be. i say we launch a lawful preemptive strike right here right now and impeach the bush administration while there is still time to prevent this civil war.

Spot on IanMas!

This is exactly how alot of the young democrats are thinking, or should I say "new democrats".

Aaaron what do you mean by "young" democrats?

By "young" do you mean new to the party or young chronological in age, say the 18-24 group?

If you are referring to the latter, you would be wrong. The 18-24 crowd is more progressive, liberal and tolerant that any other generation.

Having family members in this age group -- and being around young people in college at this age a lot -- they all suggest to me it is THEY who desire Bush be removed more than anyone else.

They are very afraid of the bleak, bloated, debt-ridden future, Bush will leave them behind as well as damn mad for starting an illegal and pre-emptive for no damn-good reason in their name!

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Snoweymon is dead wrong, here's why.

You don't like Clinton, "used" to be a Republican, and fail to see the similarities between Bush and Hitler? Hmmmmm...sounds to me like you are a neocon who is either here to disrupt or a Bush supporter who "suddenly" found a little conscience. You sound more like a "soccer/safety mom", with a short memory and a case of constitutional myopia than someone who would like to see real change.

Impeachment will not destroy the country; it will cleanse it of the biggest war-monger, constitutional criminal, liar and totalitarian president in American history. End Bush's reign and every other problem you are concerned with -- and there are many and they are warranted -- will be self-correcting.

If you fail to "pull up the weed at its roots," it will just keep growing back! We have to "cut off the head" of the neoconservative movement and its icon.

By impeaching, and therefore investigating Bush, we will pull back the curtain and put on display -- for all Americans to see -- just how deep the rabbit hole of lies, deceit, corruption, crimes and death goes. It is very, very deep and your response suggest you just gained an awareness of the depths of Bush's depravity, heretical speeches, severe damage to our rule of law and his quest for a Machiavellian government. Think about it, this was the very same man that stated, "A dictatorship would be easy, so long as I was the dictator." How much more dangerous of a peron do you want in the executive branch before America uses its lawful tool -- impeachment -- to remove an imperial and deadly president?

Then, the American public will scream and demand that Bush be impeached.

Simply ask yourself this one question:

Do you want to be judged by history as one of a group of people that failed to perform YOUR civic duty -- call for the impeachment of Bush/Cheney -- and have the blood of all those that have died in vain and for a lie on your hands, or do you want to be part of the amelioration of this country and our Constitution?

"If being liberal means critical thinking and informed dissent, instead of blind obedience and ignorant nationalism, then I am all for it!"

Right on the money Frank

Indeed, I believe that impeachment may actually SAVE this nation. It will definitely save the Constitution, because people will start to realize how damaged it has become with these goons in office.

Are you on crack?

Billions of our tax dollars are being spent each and every day on this illegal war and you are worried about a few million going toward an impeachment trial?

I am hearing this same specious argument here and there that now that the "good guys" rule the roost, all is well in D.C. and it is best just to ignore the past and let Pied Piper Pelosi guide us into an Eden full of buttercups and lollipops and free beer for all.

The future is suddenly brighter, there is no doubt about that. Nancy Pelosi's "First 100 Days" plan is a good one, to be sure. Ignoring the past, however, is as naive as a victim of domestic assault not wanting to press charges. The result will be the same. You are just going to get beaten again. It is not a matter of "if", but "when" - maybe next time to death.

Crimes have been committed. Not just a few. Very, very many. Not just the break-in of a campaign office or a President getting lipstick on his cigar in the Oral Office. People have died because of these crimes - hundreds of thousands of people. Some of these crimes are the very same ones for which Nazis were convicted and put to death. Our national treasury has been looted. Our international reputation is in shambles. The Constitution has had its throat cut and is lying in the gutter with no promise of a single Democratic Senator bending a knee to save its life.

The investigative work of John Conyers, Jr. is already well underway. The case for impeachment is rock solid. Conyers will head the Judiciary. The Judiciary with full subpoena power will rapidly confirm the crimes we are already aware of and is likely to uncover many more.

We are a nation of laws. No American is above the law. The appropriate remedy for federal office holders who violate the law is impeachment. This isn't an optional step. This is prosecution of the law deeply seated in the Constitution of the United States.

To not enforce these laws is to set ourselves up for history to repeat itself in short order. To not undo the proposterously overgrown Executive authority is to invite some future President - ANY future President - to snap his of her fingers and become a virtual dictator in a heartbeat.

The Pelosi-led Senate will continue to advance a positive agenda as the House hearings quickly recommend impeachment and bring it to the floor for a vote. A simple majority voting to recommend impeachment to the Senate will be easily attained after the public finally is apprised of the full devious intent of these traitors and DEMANDS that their Representives vote "yes" on the bill that will replace H.R. 635 - which died with the end of the 109th Congress. Cheney will quickly resign for "health reasons" in a vain attempt to be convicted while Bush still holds the power to pardon him after his inevitable conviction(s). Bush will folllow shortly and we will pressure President Pelosi NOT to pardon under any circumstances any of them. Senate Republicans will be faced with a very tough choice as the world is watching them:

a). Fight impeachment and continue to be revealed as rubberstamping, lickspittle enablers of War Criminals who were intent on a heavy-handed crackdown and takeover of all things American.

b). Play the "I had no idea all of this was going on" card to desperately distance themselves and hang onto their position of power through the next election cycle.

Leaders have stepped up and are rushing to exerminate this White House infestation.

Follow or get the hell out of the way.
