How to Handle Gridlock

Gridlock may now be inevitable and will no doubt be a major "blame" issue in 2008. Dems need to come together now and show where the log jam to progress truly lies.

How do we do it?

1) A Democratic Policy Convention. It's time to build a unified agenda and roll with it. Forget reaching across the aisle, because it's not going to happen. Make Bush use that veto of his until he's blue in the face.

2) Although it will be tempting to drag the Bush administration through the mud with a lot of commissions and investigations, the Dems need to resist the urge to go overboard. Americans want to move forward, not see their government mired in the past. Vengeful recriminations from the Democrats won't help us in the long run. Let's be the "bigger" party and focus on being the party of hope once again.

Corruption, IIRC

was what was on the minds of most of those polled.  I believe it outranked the outrageous war Bush got us mired down in.  If voters gave democrats majority because of the corruption in DC, why in the world would they worry about going overboard with their investigative powers?  When you're sent to DC to do a job, you ought to do it.  If you don't you wind up like the republicans - losing the House you had retained control of for 12 long years.  As for reaching across the aisle, when the voters think the other side is a bunch of crooks why would you reach out to them?

There is only one absolute that works...

absolute power corrupts absolutely

We now know, the world now knows exactly how a maniac like Hitler took over Germany. We have had our own 'unchecked' maniac.

We have NO obligation to reach across the aisle...rather it will be the job of the Repugnants to attempt to learn--or perhaps relearn-- bipartisanship...and for the first time in years, request, rather than order.

This election is not over yet. Do not for a minute let your guard down. We have been there and done that many times in the past--no more.

To the people of Ohio, of Pennsylvania, of Virginia, of Missouri, of Montana, our thanks for making democracy work.

There are millions of people 'out there' whose un-noticed efforts over the past 6 years have brought us to where we are at this glorious moment. The icing on the cake is that our friends and neighbors around the world have also noticed that we have made a change.

Mr Bush has invited Madame Speaker Pelosi to lunch--hope that Nancy checks for poison.

Now is not the time for civility. It is not the time for bipartisanship. The people saw the massive corruption and have selected the Democrats to correct it. If heads have to fall, then they have to fall.

Recounts in Montana...they 'forgot' to push this or that button on the machines. We've been there and done this before. Recount in VA--that was to be expected.

Looks good, but these people will not go gently into the good night.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.

Voters don't like wimps

They kept the republicans in control of the House for 12 years.  Those are the same republicans whose Speaker refused to allow bills that didn't pass 'Majority of the majority' muster.  If they wanted those people in office for 12 years, it's obvious they didn't care a whole helluvalot about reaching across the aisle.

They just don't like wimps.

Gridlock, Appeasement, and Disaster

Failure to get bills passed is far from the worst that can happen. See my recent Appeasement Invites Disaster.
