For the back story, if your not aware of the Dixie Chicks history of problems with the Flying Monkey Rightwingers, all you have to do is a little Google Proxy search. It all started when the Chicks' Natalie Maines diised Dear Misleader Bu$h on March 10th, 2003, a week or so before the Iraq invasion began when she told a London audiance "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." (That took some guts in the pre-war propaganda frenzy)... With that the Uber-Bush ball-lickers sprung into action, not so gently prodded by the Republican National committee.

Bush was a fellow Texan, it started a nationwide backlash against the group. Listeners flooded country music stations with demands they stop playing Chicks songs, fans sent their CDs in to be burned. Good old American pride? Not entirely. according to the blog AmericanNewsreel: "Turns out the whole thing was orchestrated by the National Republican Party. Party operatives spammed their email lists the day after Maines made her statement, urging them to contact radio stations. Phone calls originating from the GOP headquarters in Washington went out to country stations, urging them to remove the Chicks from their playlists."...
Was completely disgusting. Of course, this young lady was as free as the rest of us to voice her opinions on her leader. I am not a country music fan, but since this has happened I have bought my girlfriend ever Dixie Chics CD ever made. We are hoping their movie comes here so we can show our support by going and paying to watch it. Everyone should support their rights as Americans!!!
The CD burning rallies, even the bulldozing of their CD's, organized by the RNC and Clear Channel radio stations.... Very reminiscent of some ugly times earlier in human history. If it had been earlier in US history they might have been burned at the stake. But if anything, these gals are tough, and have parlayed the notoriety to their advantage..

Is just where the modern Democratic and Republican Parties are growing so much further apart.
Democrats believe that it is healthy for citizens to voice dissent in a Democracy. Democrats believe that you have the right to live and believe any way you want as long as in doing so you don't infringe on another citizen's rights. Democrats now actually believe in LESS and MORE EFFICIENT government.
The modern Republican Party is turning itself into the party of HUGE government intrusion, under Reagan and both Bushes they ran up huge deficits with irresponsible spending, they are aligned with obstructing any kind of reforms in how elections and government business are conducted, and they believe in a foreign obstructionist policy that is not traditionally American. It seems to me if you look at things from a wide perspective, they are trying to create a more authoritarian government.
That is why I so very much believe we DESPERATELY need to win at least one house of the Congress this year, not just for the Democratic Party, but for AMERICA!!!!!
I just hope real Conservatives realize that just like us, their concerns are not being addressed either!!!! The folks they worked so hard to elect have stabbed them in the back!!! They haven't gotten smaller efficient government. What they have gotten is a huge mess of hundreds of billions of dollars, countless thousands of lives, the suspension of haebeus corpus, a HUGE deficit, and more government intrusion.
On some of the Conservative social issues, including one we don't discuss here, they have had no action whatsoever. The Republicans have not introduced one piece of legislation on that issue, or prayer in schools, posting the ten commandments at public sites, and to add insult to injury we have the revelations of David Kuo's book of how promised faith-based funds were scornfully denied. Not to mention the utter ridicule this administration has for people of faith.
Americanism is facing an all out assault by the President and this sissy, do-nothing but brownnose Congress. The people on this site know very well how we are not being represented and the dangers we face. I just beg true Conservatives to wake up and help us this time, if this time only!!!!!!!!
