Kerry slipsRightwing media is having a hay day with this John F. Kerry Thinks US Soldiers Are Uneducated
We all know what he meant, so do the RW but they are using it and calling us "elitists" once again. It may be time for Kerry to admit that he has fallen and can't get up? Or will he come up fighting this time? Bill Bennett says this kills off Kerry's political life!

Stocking the pond
Kerry's right. The republicans have been doing what they do best, and that is to make it so that to get a good education, one must be 1) rich; 2) willing to go into debt for years; or 3) willing to get your ass shot at in Iraq.
If the democrats know what they're doing - and I don't think they do - they'll slam the republicans back by reminding America that when it comes to higher education, republicans only believe in 'stocking the pond' with poor kids so they can get their war on.
If the jellyfish in our party get Kerry to apologize instead of backing him up, it's going to harm us on Tuesday.

Me thinks
Kerry has learned the lesson :) He jumped right on it without waiting for advisors to tell him what to say and he was strong! I hope that the whole party is paying attention.

Kerry's Slip
Perhaps you are too stupid to realize it but John Kerry is not running for anything and is just out running his mouth. The Republicans are so desperate for the tiniest infraction by the Democrats so they can all jump on it. You bastards support a pre-emptive war based on lies about WMD's, support a bunch of criminals and thugs who want to destroy social security, the unions in America, and the middle class. If you are a part of the middle class, GET OUT. WE DONT WANT YOU. TRAITOR!!! You are willing to swallow a Republican camel and choke on a Democratic gnat. What a bunch of fucking morons. If I had lost a brother, father, son, daughter, mother, or sister in this war you would be facing a much tougher opponent than I am now because as far as I am concerned you, Bush, and the Republican congress are all murderers and you will always be murderers and nothing can erase that distinction. MURDERERS!!!I HOPE YOU ROAST IN HELL BECAUSE YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE OF GOING TO HEAVEN. JESUS WOULD PROBABLY SLAP YOU DOWN INTO HADES HIMSELF.MURDERERS!!MURDERERS!!
Kerry absolutely should not
Kerry absolutely should not back down, not apologize, not try to 'explain away' anything! And party Dems should either back him, or keep quiet.
He should talk
So let me get this straight...If you have a low education, you go into the military...which he was in. Then he says, Bush doesnt know what it's like to be in uniform (same bush that flew jets) and this was coming from John Kerry, someone who not only pussed out in the Vietnam War but protested it. Yea, he's exactly what our country needs. I'm not saying I support Bush, but Kerry is no better.
Kerry served in the Navy for
Kerry served in the Navy for years and in Vietnam. He protested moron chicken hawks who send OTHER people to fight. You know the kind, with tens of millions of Republican supporter left the troops are still left to hang in perpetual Stop Loss and Mandatory Recall because those same folks did not enlist.
But please tell us how Kerry "pussed" out. Compare him, for example to the entire Bush Cabinet, or the tens of millions of Bush supporters who have not enlisted, etc.
And YES, to get out of the bullshit these pinheads think of as military strategy, you want to be rich and/or go to college. Period.
Please ..how is risking life to save others ..."pussing" out?!
The master manipulating genius Karl Rove has managed to smear genuinely GOOD people in order to make absolute low life look good in the minds of the people they control. Look what they did to John McCain...it has nothing to do with party...anyone who might be a stumbling block on the Bush highway of corruption is a target..
How you can say that Kerry is no better than Bush is baffling at best.. Kerry in the midst of his worst day would be better than Bush in his best hour!
Bush didn't fly in a warzone!
George did not fly in a warzone, nor was he ever in real combat. He wore the uniform bought for him by his daddy and affiliates. Sen. Kerry's comments do not reflect upon the military. I caught the joke... I guess you have to be in a certain frame of mind to understand jokes... let me think.. what is that word... oh yeah, stable... sane... educated? That would leave most of the Republicans out.
I doubt if Bush flew anything by himself!
Most likely he put on a flight uniform and sat in the cockpit while someone with a brain flew the plane. I doubt if the little lying coward ever rode a bike without training wheels. His little mishap in Crawford could have been his first attempt without them.
Outwithesethugs--Bush had about 300 hours total time...
that includes primary and advanced flight training and his transition into F-102 Deltas.
Unlike most pilots however, he was directly commissioned a 2nd Lt. which means he did not have to go through the rigors of being a Cadet during training. Neither did he ever attend any sort of Officer Candidate Training as a Cadet.
His life was cushioned from the hard blows of reality that come with such participation.
A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions.

The "I can't decide" Independent agenda: Blame everyone!
Independents love to sit on the fence and claim the higher ground, playing referee, love to support the "flavor of the day" while bashing the opposition. Typical. Can't make up your mind, so you let someone else do it for you.
"I'm not saying I support Bush, but Kerry is no better."
Then say you don't support Bush, don't "mouthed it" say it, because it sure sounds like you support him to me!
Since you obstensibly don't approve of Kerry or Bush, what do you propose the U.S. does? Who should lead our country? How do you suggest we solve the massive problems in this country? How do you propose we end the war in Iraq?

John Kerry
I wish the Democrats would get a BACKBONE and stop apologizing for everything they say or do. I am disappointed in the Democrats for not backing up John Kerry. I agree with him, that we ARE 'stuck' in Iraq. Our troops ARE 'stuck' in Iraq and we all know who 'stuck' them there.
I'm not happy with the current administration, but there aren't any Democrats with the backbone needed to stand up to them either.
John Kerry
When someone like John Kerry does stand up with some spine and show his disdain for this administration, he is shuffled away from the crowd. I am so proud of JK for standing up for what he feels. Our Dems need to get angry but they just keep walking around like whipped red headed step kids. John Kerry is an old school democrat.

the basics, if this was the case then Rush 'praised' Michael

Kerry's response was one of the best I have ever seen
right to the point, and cuts them like a knife.
John Kerry, still my choice and always will be.......
I am WAHOO, and I approve this message for Kerry
Good for you, Wahoo!
Interesting isn't it?
Aren't these the same people who are short changing our troops
of needed supplies and body armor? And now they're attacking
Kerry, insisting he's not supporting our troops?
WOW- These guys wrote the book on hypocrisy!
"Good for you, Wahoo!"
You realize that the Republicans just passed a grant of 1 billion to send troops supplies, body armor, and better weapons? You should research before you start throwing out insults against people with a job that actually matters.
Thanks for the chicken scratch.
And please tell me why Conservatives so desire to live off the welfare the troops provide that they demand they work for below market wages?
joke's on you blitzinger
That "billion dollar grant" is money the troops will never see, it goes straight into the pockets of Haliburton ( Dick Cheney ) and Company. The soldiers will still be left out there exposed to hellish fire with their own make-shift armor and nobody in the Rupublican administration backing them up. You're a fool for believing one more terrible lie told by this neocon outfit. It's people like you who allow this wrong war to go on, and you are as responsible for the mayhem and death of our fighting men and women as Bush is.
Thank you, SLadd.
I think blitzinger needs to do a lot more
research himself before he makes disparaging remarks
about anyone's post.
I knew where that "billion dollar grant" was going. It
was not going for the intended purpose of buying
" equipment, better weapons and body armor"for our troops.
Obviously, this "Independent" ( yeah-right!) doesn't know that.

Lootiemaye, I highly doubt Blitzinger
I highly doubt Blitzinger is an independent. Look at his profile: NC-05. Not exactly a place that conjures up images of independents or progressive people.
Look, this moron tried to portray Bush as an honorable vet who served his country and tried to paint a picture as if GWB was running sortie missions in Veitnam. BZZZZZZZZ! Wrong! GWB was AWOL for a number of months and his Texas Air National Guard records have been sealed away in Daddy's secret-keeping vault.
Just anothe bellicose bully supporting a chickenhawk who can't fight their own battles, so they try to terrorize the rest of us -- people like this are truly the 'Enemy Within' and very, very misinformed!

Suggestion for Kerry
Kerry should tell Bush if it is easier to go to war than to go to college and get a job, then Bush should have done it himself.
Also, Bush's daughters could serve in Iraq and they don't in fact he won't suggest it because Iraq is a terrible place.
Why would Bush send other young people to fight a war, he wouldn't encourage his own children to fight?
Kerry was punking Bush
He said he had been criticizing Bush, not the "heroes serving in Iraq," and said the president and his administration are the ones who owe U.S. troops an apology because they "misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it."
"This is the classic GOP playbook," Kerry said in a harshly worded statement. "I'm sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did. I'm not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium."

It's the same Repugnant techniques
the Rethuglicans use every time a truth is spoken by a Democrat or anyone who doesn't agree with their blunderous mistakes both foreign and domestic. They make big noise, froth at the mouth, anything to try to distract everyone from the fact that the plain simple truth is being spoken. They dare not have everyone/anyone realize it, so they create high dramatics yelling that (1)we're not supporting the troops, or (2) we're supporting terrists, hoping to distract everyone from the pure spoken truth. Their loud fury and blather makes me yawn. I'm so sick of hearing it. And hurrah, Kerry's not backing down!

After reading his comment, I dont see that he
disrespected any troops anywhere.
This is just a Republican last minute attempt to smear
and turn the news onto something else, instead of their
own troubles.
Typical right wing way of doing things.........
Kerry's comment does not even compare at all to what
Rush Limbycotin said about Michael J Fox, if those
constipated conservatives want an apology, then they should
get one from Rush Limneverservedbaugh..
Run On Mouth
Even though Kerry has explained thouroughly the gaffe he made, he has had a long history of statements that are not helpful to the goal we are trying to reach. We do not need this distraction when we are in the throws of a takeover of Congress. I believe his explanation. But he needs to make that apology for this, even though it is not a thing he has to do. Then he just needs to shut up and lay low for a week. Thats my story and i'm stickin to it.
Kerry's a vet. He doesn't wear dresses.
If republicans want apologies, perhaps they should MAKE them. Lord knows we're all listening. Kerry didn't make a gaffe.
Furthermore, if making a 'gaffe' was detrimental, Bush would be back in Crawford choking on pretzels while his ugly wife sweeps the porch.

Allthough i completely agree with your sentiment
about Repubs needing to apolgize for the evil done to this country, this messed up joke will do us no good with the moderates and Indies we need to get ourselves the majority in the Senate. I think it would go a long way in defusing the situation. I tend to live in a world where the political reality is that A) This is a close election in the states we need to capture, and it is a uneccesary distraction from the task at hand B) it would bring this whole mess to an end so we can focus on what we need to do in the next 7 days. The best way to put out a fire is to deprive it of oxygen. Keeping this situation front and center in the minds of the voters we need to win a majority in the Senate will not help the chance we now have for total control of congress, thats all. This thing will snowball, especially in Missouri, where Clare McCaskill and Talent are literally in a dead heat. With Ford behind in Tennesee, we have to take Missouri. We cannot control the Senate without it.
Lets not use a Bush tactic to sink the chances we have for the Senate by continually re explaining and digging the hole wider and deeper. I am not suggesting anything but a temporary political expediency for 7 days. There will be plenty of time for Kerry to make this clear to the public. There is not plenty of time before Nov.7. Just defuse this quickly and effectively and get all the focus back on Bush and Iraq, so we can begin to undo this horrible mess we are in.
BTW, I can close my eyes and see that monkey in his eventual retirement, with laura sweeping the barney poop off the porch. Yall come back now, here?
No.
The fire we need is for a democrat to 'leak' some of the information they've been sitting on for the past six years. I don't want fake apologies. Some more sex scandal about the party of pedophilia would be nice, though. Democrats need to learn how to win. You don't do it by apologizing every time you fart upwind. You do it by kicking the dog. Right now the GOP is the dog. It's down. Democrats need to keep kicking it before it gets back up and molests more of our children.
Perhaps if democrats stopped wearing petticoats, people would trust them with national security.

Also
Nobody is suggesting that Kerry "wears a dress".(a bit sexist isnt it?) On the contrary i respect Kerry's war record and his status as a Hero, not just a Vet. But must we pay the price of both Houses of Congress to let Kerry vindicate his comments? BTW in using the term "gaffe" instead of the terms i should have used (screwup, mistake,f#*k up) i was trying to be polite about it- my mistake. And Kerry does have a track record of misplaced and untimely statements which are distinctly un helpful. That's part of the problem i have with him in the first place.
A nuanced time limited
A nuanced time limited strategy MAY work in the short term. (And only MAYBE).
Long term is has destroyed the Democratic Party. Democrats are not begging for votes. In fact I DARE fellow Americans to vote for Republicans. DO IT!
Enjoying the tripling of gas prices?
Enjoying the quarter million dollars worth of new debt on EVERY family of four?
How about the first of the World War Three dominoes falling?
Etc.
----
Democrats have to understand that we can't save hundreds of thousands of folks. They are dead.
We can't gain folks the tens of thousands of dollars of increased income they could have had under a Democratic Administration.
Nope. We have slid off course.
What Democrats need to do is set up for a decades long battle not a single election which may again revert back to a near 50/50 tie. New conversations need to be had.
I dare anyone to vote Republican: And if we gain a Republican majority again we deserve it. Let's get to that draft where we start burning through all the folk's kids instead of just a few who are now trapped in Stop Loss. Let's get to the Republican debt tax as they attempt to pay off their leisure class tax cuts by collecting a quarter million dollars from families of four. Let's use the Christmas money on $3 a gallon gas while oil companies make record profits.
Democrats are not begging for votes. People need to grow up and it can't be forced.
yes
i agree completely with you vern58
Thanks!
I was beginning to think that i was alone out there.
vern58, I think the fact
vern58,
I think the fact that you added a temporal modifier to this strategy, indicates that you are giving this some real thought.
I would just ask that you give the larger picture (beyond this election) some thought.
Jim
Jim, i have been mulling this over
and thinking carefully about the chances of getting a majority in both houses, not just one. Allen has salted himself away in VA by having his goon squad beat an ex marine just for questioning him. As much as i would like to see Ford wipe Corkers butt on the sidewalks of Memphis, i think we are on the outside on this one. That means it all comes down to Missouri, where i know what the folks are like having lived there for several years. They will by and large be instantly turned off by Kerry's statement- weather he meant it or not. What i am suggesting is temporary damage control for 7 short days, not that Kerry rolls over and plays dead. God knows i dont advise anyone to do that. All kerry has to do is make an apology for the mistaken meaning of the joke (rather like the Pope did to the Muslims) and be done with it. That is not running away with your tail between your legs- that is smart, forward thinking politics. It takes the focus away from the Repuke spin machine for just long enough to get through this Election. There is time enough after it is over. God knows the thought of any Democratic leader letting the pukies run him/her over sticks in my craw. I think moreover we have shown ourselves to be not the old "we lay down and die" Dems of the past. This election we have shown ourselves to be no patsies. But when you look at the very short term, we have to win before we can do anything. The senate races are just too close to make dumb mistakes.
You're right. He should apologize.
He should say, 'I am sorry that republican leadership in this country is so lacking in integrity and so incredibly stupid that it could take the words from a veteran's mouth and twist them to make it sound as if that veteran disrespects the sacrifices he and his brothers/sisters in the military have paid and continue to pay to defend freedom, even while republican chickenhawks bear false witness to the American people and it's called freedom of speech. No one's sorrier about what they're doing than this veteran is.'

Now see how easy that is ;)
Now see how easy that is ;)
All he should say is "I am
All he should say is "I am sorry that my meaning was not clear enough, but i am even sorrier that the RightWing Taliban have once again distorted my words and lied
about their intent. I'm flat sorry that we even have to have this discussion"
How bout that
Pretty dang close ;)
Pretty dang close ;)
Thanks Jim
Just enough apology to satisfy the centrists and Indies, and just enough confontation to let the crooks know that this the old way of Democratic behavior is now and forevermore at an end. Then just chill out until after the 7th, when we will be in the majority. He can then busy himself with dismantling the Rovemachine that robbed him of the Presidency in 04. That should be both satisfying and productive.
All he should say is 'Stuff it!'
But I'd love to hear Bush apologize for his CT war.
