Strategy, If We Win One or Both Houses of CongressTimothy Porter txpje@yahoo.com We do not need to be doing any "dancing in the end-zone." We don't need to do that even if we win big in both houses of Congress. What we NEED TO DO, is "the job we were elected to do for the people who elected us." If we don't do this then our dancing will turn into a vodoo dance that will cause us all kinds of ills and ailments, and spew even more poison into the electorate population. * Work on impeaching George W. Bush and Cheney, by all means YES, YES, YES to all of these....... But FIRST * Work on solving our independence on foreign oil Don't start the dancing until you have the orchestra, director and music required to make the festival a success. And the entire festival is owed to the American people, who, for too long, have not been heard in the halls of Congress nor the White House. Vindictiveness, should mirror that of the recently devestated Amish people who were so brutally abused. Were they vindictive? NO!!... Did they capture the heart of America with ther understanding and forgiveness? YES, they did. We MUST NOT allow ourselves to be portrayed as "wimps" for our understanding about how the country was mislead into war, nor as sniveling cowards for forgiving human nature for it's trek through the gutter. Instead we need to use our POWER to OVERCOME these types of behavior. But going down that road, please remember, "we ALL live in glass houses", and we must use discretion when we are temped to throw rocks at our opponents, lest we also succumb to the same situation they find themselves in now. We will NOT be perfect in our POWER, but neither should we be weak! With POWER comes RESPONSIBILITY. Let us use both wisely on November 8, 2006. Otherwise we "fly our own human nature" into the lofty towers and they too will collapse, crumble and dissolve in smoke and rubble just as surely as the terrorists did on September 11, 2001. Radical at the roots
The Amish "...captured the hearts..." of those Americans who have hearts, but do you think they captured the neocon, rightwing, fascist-fundamentalist hearts? IF Democrats ragain some measure of power and control again in this country, we must never forget that our Republican oppononts think of themselves as our enemies, and they cannot ever be trusted. The original meaning of the word 'radical' didn't mean crazy, it meant to change things at the roots. The Democrats must be that kind of radical, and always be ready to govern from a position of strength first.
Radical
Hi and thanks for the comment.
I thought I put the importance of POWER in my message. I don't want radical to include the inclusion of "hate." Hate, is a bitter thing that tends to consume th soul with bitterness. I am bitter against the last six years of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, and I do loath what they stand for, but I can't as a rational, God-fearing person, hate them in the sense that I want to remove them from the face of the earth. Time and history will do that for us easily enough, just maybe not soon enough in some ways.
Let's just IMPEACH them and try to get back to doing the business of running our country, serving it's citizens and doing our part in making the world a safer place to live.
I do understand your frustrations as I too have them daily. Tell all of your friends to get out to vote on November 7th and be sure to wear BLUE!!
Thanks
Tim Porter
OK Tim , " hate " is hereby taken out of ' radical '
I'm not much for hate either, and thanks for that reminder. Hate is a poison that a hater tries to spit into the face another, but swallows it instead and it kills the hater. But like you, I confess to feeling bitter. "Bitter" is fair. But it goes beyond that for me, it's a determined mistrust of Republicans, and false Democrats, and I won't be rolling over anytime soon for the likes of Hillary, Obama, or even Kerry again.
SLadd, there are many components to the definition of 'radical'.
Your's is correct, but it can also mean to use extreme measures
to change things.
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/radical
Of course, the fourth definition is 'cool'.
I love looking up definitions of words.
Kwahlf, these are " extreme" days
Thanks for the dictionary definition of "radical", it has been awhile since I last looked it up. I think that the expression " rad " probably comes from the word radical, don't you ? And yes,it can mean "extreme" , but it seems like the truth is extreme these days because it's the fartherest thing from the neocon mind. Getting rid of Bush and Cheney and the Republican misrepresentatives in the House and Senate would be sooooooo rad , and ' cool ' and true.
SLadd, it's somewhere along the lines of
" desperate times call for desperate measures".
Althought I would like to substitute the word
'urgent' for 'desperate'.
OK, now I've got Foreigner's Urgent playing
in my head- that sooo rad!!
;-)
formula for defeat
It one thing to get elected. It is another staying elected. If the party takes congress it be the result of a protest vote. If the party isn’t smart it will become the target of a protest vote in two years
*Work on impeaching George W. Bush and Cheney, by all means?
There is no case. Someone tell me what the case is, the one backed with concrete evidence. An impeachment process is like a court of law if Dems aren’t careful they’ll be painted as trying to punish Bush for being “too aggressive on terror.”
*Work on restoring Constitutional protections to all of us?
Careful ! “Constitutional protections” are becoming code words for protecting terrorists.
*Work on bringing the troops home from Iraq?
Everyone agrees that early withdraw will have negative consequences. If it happens as a result of a Dems victory they will get the blame, and Bush will get off.
*Start thinking about how we explain the terrorist celebrating our getting in office!
The only chance the Dems have is to become more hawkish than the neo-cons.

You don't respond
To what we post. If I respond to you with anything thoughtful, it's a total waste of my time.

When the Dems win
If they try to impeach Bush and Chaney then in 08 they'll be out of power because people are sick and tired of things not getting done.Bush will be a lame duck that can do no more harm, contain him have a few investigations etc,but if the Dems want to control things for the long term then work on the other things you mentioned they are all positive isues that almost all Americans will get behind and support.Impeachment will just divide the country and nothing will get done 1/2 of Bush supportes will think its trying to get even for Clinton the other 1/2 will be embarressed they ever supported Bush and won't want to be reminded, like my great-uncle who bought an Edsel then got mad at my Grandfather for reminding him of it.Best thing in my opinion to do is let Bush get away with what he has done, make sure he does no more harm and work towards electing a Democratic President in 08 and expanding the majoority. peace out I m gone

I'd have wanted you to be on my jury!

I would like to remind you that there is not only one
major issue confirmed which are impeachable offenses
made by this President but up to 3, and maybe more.
Iraq, NSA, Energy Files, 9/11
Clinton never lied under oath , it was overzealous Congressmen such as Henry Hyde, and James Sensenbrenner that started those
impeachment proceedings, which they later confirmed they were
retaliation for Nixon.
The Idea of Impeachment Does Sound Good
Hi and thanks for responding to my topic.
I do have to agree, when I'm thinking rationally, that Impeachment would create too much unnecessary havoc within a country already so divided and with both Houses currently doing virtually nothing "we the people" elected them to do, that it WOULD do more harm than good.
Although, we do like to think about getting our "revenge." Just think about how the majority of honest tax-paying people wanted to see Kenneth Lay go to jail.... for a very, very long time. Maybe the Amish people and their recent tragedy could yet teach ALL of us (regardless of which party we prefer) that forgiveness IS the the "morally" right thing to do. But if we take that road, without first, making a strong "ETHICAL" statement about how much what this administration has done to politically bankrupt the POWER of the United States to these people, then we run the risk of allowing our larger enemies, Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and others think us a bunch of "meek" cowards.
However things come out after November 7th, the Democrats MUST and I do mean MUST begin showing it's backbone, and exercising it's own right to POWER.
It' great hearing from you, and don't forget to wear BLUE on November 7th.
Now for my laugh of the day. I've been trying to encourage some of my female friends to wear "full" skirts with BLUE undergarments so they can easily hike their skirts up and flash a BLUE butt at the GOP poll workers.
Make it a good one and get all of your friends out to vote.

Impeachment is the cure, not the disease
Why are so many Democrats afraid of impeachment ? It smacks of fear to me, like " oh, don't make the Republicans mad." To not make the tyrants who are killing our Constitution accountable, is to let the deadly disease remain at the heart of our government. Impeachment isn't a sin, it's a tool to be used for surgery to rid the body-politic of a life-threatening scourge,...the ' cancer on the presidency ', remember ? Only this time the cancer IS the president.
The POWER of winning
I too, would like to see an Impeachment process begun, if we win big in next weeks' election, but we have to proceed with that using the "POWER" we will have in the victory. If we proceed out of anger, resentment or anything less than the legitimate and determined will of a majority of voters on November 7th (those who stay at home and don't participate in the election also have a voice)then we will be acting from an attitude of "arrogance."
I would have for us to do something stupid like that. Aren't WE sick and tired of the arrogance and "cowboy" tactics Mr. Bush and Karl Rove use? Please, don't bring US (the US) down to their level, OK?
Now something positive for you. Let me introduce you to a BLUE jingle I made up for the BLUE REVOLUTION:
Blue, Blue..... What Can It Do For You
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
Can it help with your pain, can it help you regain?
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
Let's turn out the force, we're "staying the course"
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
Let's make a great push, we can overcome Bush!
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
Go vote, you know we must, for there's no one else to trust.
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
When all is said and done, "we will NOT cut and RUN"
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
When legitimacy is true, we’re for the red, white and BLUE!
Blue, blue .... what can it do for you?
On November 7th, I will be BLUE, what about YOU?
Let's get out there to VOTE, and take back Democracy.
Timothy Porter
Impeachment
I feel is the of course an absolutely desirable act, but i think it should be directed at Dick Cheney, not Bush. The best way to see the end of modern neo con Republicanism is to have Bush continue to sink it himself. He is doing a remarkable job so far. And if we impeach the imperial chimp, the antichrist (cheney) replaces him. We need to save the effort to be rid of the greater evil.
Unfortunately we cant afford
Unfortunately we cant afford Bush to sink himself any further. he should not so much as be allowed to play with a plastic tug boat in a bath tub.
Arrest, shackled, and brought before the Senate for impeachment and then rendition him straight to the Hague for crimes against humanity.
The best way to end the neocons is to arrest everyone of them...NOW!
Impeachment aside
Here is a plan that would work, with or without impeachment. I think honestly the Democrats should impeach, but i think that by not impeaching they can score some political points. If they actually act like representatives of the people, and not like career politicians/partisans, they can force the hand of the Republicans through legislation.
If the Democrats sponsor legislation that is based in common sense and for the greater good, legislation that highlights the plus side of their platform (health care, social security, fiscal responsibility, supporting the troops and veterans, middle class tax relief, etc.) they will be able to force the Republicans to make some really tough votes. Basically, the Democrats can sponsor bills that help people, make them look good, and make the Republicans look bad if they vote against them. Once the votes are complete, the Democrats can then use said votes to highlight how out of touch Republicans are with regular people, and they are set for 2008. If the Republicans manage to obstruct the bills, the Democrats can then say that they were there for working families and that it is the Republicans fault, and if the Republicans vote no but the bill passes anyway, they have a platform in which to use on a person by person, vote by vote, race by race basis.
For example, "Rep. Elephant voted against body armor for our troops. (Rep. Elephant doesn't support the troops.)" "Rep. Values voted against tax relief for middle class families. (Rep. Values only cares about the ultra-rich)." "Rep. So and So voted against paying people making minimum wage X cents an hour. (Rep So and So hates poor people)" The attack ads will write themselves without having to resort to lying or hitting below the belt. Not that there is anything wrong with hitting below the belt; it's politics, not boxing.
Impeachment won't happen
the democrats don't have enough votes in the House, and certainly not enough votes in the Senate, where you need 66 votes to remove from office. If or when the dems take control of the House, most of the congressman are from pretty conserative areas in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Don't count on them to be in lock step about impeachment. If they do it, the GOP will have the congress and Senate back in 08 with ease.
Orangehat
you have hit the mark. Work for the people, or you could have a serious backlash like the GOP did in 98. Most people don't like Bush, but thier is a very serious difference between not liking, and impeachment in a war time atmosphere.
