I'm having a hard time finding any recent polls on the Tom Latham/
Selden Spencer race. I wonder if anyone in this District knows how Selden Spencer is doing. The Des Moines Register doesn't cover this race at all (of course, it hasn't done much real reporting in the last five years).

There have been no public polls, and the only released poll was from the Spencer campaign. That was in Sept. 10-12, at the height of the 9/11 propaganda. Latham led Spencer 48% to 37% with leaners, but Spencer had almost no name ID then. The race has surely tightened, but no one knows how much.

In that poll, Latham was not popular: 40% approval/42% disapproval, and his re-elect number was 35%. The District is pretty evenly split between parties, and it has a PVI = +0.4.

Dr. Selden Spencer is a very unique candidate. A neurologist from Huxley, Iowa, he spent two weeks in Kabul, Afghanistan in late August on a medical mission. Both he and General Clark have learned that we need more diplomacy and economic development to address our problems in the Middle East.

General Wesley Clark has made a great radio ad for Dr. Selden Spencer. General Clark's 60 sec spot addresses the need for a new direction for national security:

As we head into the final days of the campaign, we need to gather sufficient funds to run the ad on local radio stations, particularly in the rural areas of the 4th District (most of it), where many people get their local news from their local radio stations. Compared to broadcast TV, radio ads are a bargain and an effective tool to reach voters.

Contribute to airing the ad on local radio stations by going to the special ActBlue page set up by WesPAC:

Thanks for any small contribution you can make towards this important project.

Thank You

I appreciate your reply. I contributed to his campaign a few days ago. I think he'll do fine in the Ames area, but I worry about the rural communities. However, people are fed up with Republicans, and I think many know that Latham marches in step with George Bush.
