A Minefield of Liars

Oregon Democrats are facing a minefield of Republican candidates who lie this year. Toni Manning, the woman who made false accusations against Rob Brading, is on the warpath again.  She has written attack articles in "The Oregonian" and the "Gresham Outlook," urging voters to defeat the Multnomah County Library’s funding levy because of "pornography."

Ron Saxton promises he will improve Headstart, the public schools, and the state without spending any money.  He knows it can't be done, but he promises anyhow.  We can get rid of him and the other liars by working hard for Democrats, going door to door, making calls, working in the office, contributing money, and talking to family and friends.  Good luck to us all!

1. Two weeks to go -- what can you do to elect Democrats?

We're down to just two weeks -- fourteen days -- until Election Day. We still have 60,000 voters to contact during Get Out The Vote (GOTV).  We especially need volunteers doing voter contact work. This personal contact is much more effective than mailers or television ads, which means a higher turnout among Democrats.

With your time on a canvass or a phone bank, you can help us contact those voters and ensure Democratic victory on November 7th.

You can ensure a better future for Oregon simply by taking a day or two off between now and Election Day to help out. Even with vote-by-mail there is a large need for volunteers in the last week of the election.

Want to help out? Click here to volunteer. We especially volunteers Thursday-Sunday.

Many nights we have food donated by businesses and individuals to help feed our volunteers, including:

Doug Fir Lounge (830 E. Burnside): providing a spread for the phone bank on Thursday, October 26th.

Hot Lips Pizza (2211 SE Hawthorne Blvd): providing pizza on Halloween.

If you live in east county, a lit drop for House Minority Leader Jeff Merkley will be held this Saturday:

When: Saturday, October 28th at 1 p.m.

Location: Mill Park Elementary School, 1900 SE 117th

Contact: Jenni Simonis, field@multdems.org or 503-239-VOTE

Can't volunteer, but still want to help? Your donation to the Multnomah County Democrats will support the election efforts of other volunteers.

2. Rally with our democratic governors -- Kulongoski and Kitzhaber

Governors Ted Kulongoski and John Kitzhaber will appear this Friday, October 27th at Portland State University at a rally to support Kulongoski's re-election:

Location: Smith Memorial Center, Parkway North cafeteria
Time: 12:30 p.m.

3. Celebrate Governor Kulongoski's birthday on Nov. 3rd

Governor Kulongoski is having a celebration for his 66th birthday on Friday, November 3rd.

The event will be held at the convention center and tickets will be $66.

For more details, call the Kulongoski campaign at 503-546-0416 or visit the website at www.tedforgov.org beginning Thursday.

4. Child care available

We now have childcare available on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We're also in need of volunteers to watch children other times during the week, well as donations of coloring books and crayons, toys, and other items to keep children busy while their parents volunteer.

Contact 503-239-VOTE or e-mail field@multdems.org for more information.

Thank you for reading today's volunteer newsletter. I hope to see you in the office soon.
