Buried (and dismissed) in the Newsweek article "Are the Faithful Losing Faith?" comes the news that 51% of Americans now favor IMPEACHING Bush as a top priority! (47% of Dems and 5% of Repubs) Wonkette points out that by Bush's own twisted fruitcake logic, 51% is a MANDATE!
...Other parts of a potential Democratic agenda receive less support, especially calls to impeach Bush: 47 percent of Democrats say that should be a “top priority,” but only 28 percent of all Americans say it should be, 23 percent say it should be a lower priority and nearly half, 44 percent, say it should not be done. (Five percent of Republicans say it should be a top priority and 15 percent of Republicans say it should be a lower priority; 78 percent oppose impeachment.)...
Impeach Bush NOW! and support pro-impeachment candidates... The rest of the article points out issue after issue where Americans now support a Democratic agenda. There's also over ONE MILLION Americans who get to vote for impeachment ballot issues this yr. The Nation Mag's John Nichols explains...
Voting for Impeachment From Vermont to Illinois to California, voters this fall will be deciding the fate not just of candidates for Congress but of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Communities that are home to more than 1 million Americans will have an opportunity to cast ballots on the question of whether Congress should begin impeachment proceedings against the president and vice president. Only the U.S. House of Representatives can impeach a member of the executive branch, and only the Senate can convict the targeted official and remove him from office. But the founders always intended for citizens to have a voice in the process. Thomas Jefferson, who argued that power must ultimately rest in the people, as they alone are the surest defenders of the republic and its democratic aspirations, observed, "It behooves our citizens to be on their guard, to be firm in their principles, and full of confidence in themselves. We are able to preserve our self-government if we will but think so." Duly troubled by a president and vice president who have launched wars without congressional declarations, who have spied without warrants, who have disregarded and disdained the Constitution, citizens across the country have put themselves to the task of preserving self-government by raising the call for impeachment. Dozens of communities have considered resolutions calling on Congress to act, and this fall's referendums will raise the volume....

Begin Impeachment ASAP
Show the world that WE the American people realize what a mistake and a disaster our President and V-P have been. Show that we are working to correct the error and regain our standing in the world. PREVENT Nancy Pelosi from becoming Speaker of the House because she has said (on 60 Minutes, that she won't allow impeachment on 'her watch?') If Bill Clinton can be (attempted) impeached over a blow job, then surely these criminals in the White House SHOULD BE IMPEACHED for High Crimes and Misdemeanors against the constitution and the American People. PLEASE, WOULD SOMEONE TELL NANCY TO SHUT UP! We, that's 51% of the populace want these guys impeached.
Get out of the way, Nancy.
right on merryg!
We also have to shut up self-appointed "Democratic strategists" like Laura Schwartz who rushed to agree with Sean Hannity in opposing impeachment.
Why the hell is any "Democrat" agreeing with Sean Hannity on anything?
I've Been Wondering...
if Democrats aren't holding their cards close to the vest (assuming they'll be elected). Once investigations proceed, the public outcry might become overwhelming, and calls for impeachment will grow from a dull roar to a deafening outcry . Then they (and maybe a few Republicans) will impeach. I wonder if this is a possibility.
You hit the nail on the head
Agree with the strategy or not, holding the "cards" close to the vest is exactly what's being employed. Then after the House election victory the investigations will begin.
The thinking is, IMO, to let those investigations lead where they may. If it's to Impeachment, all the better. If not, two yrs. of airing the Bushite's dirty laundry will so offend and disgust the electorate that it'll lead to an even bigger eletoral sweep in '08...

Man
I don't mean any disrespect but I just still hope we get at least one wing of the Congress. Trust me, nobody would love to see this administration held accountable for the at best gross incompetence it has displayed, but even at this juncture that seems like such a daunting task. To do that we would have to have huge majorities in each chamber when you consider the several DINOs that we will have in office will oppose it.
Right now our chances are really good on the House, and there is probably about a 50-50 chance on the Senate. The chances of razor thin majorities in both are astronomical. If and when we do achieve majorities, there is much damage to deal with. If we have razor thin majorities we may be pressed just to get much needed legislation through, and try and repair damage. We will just have to see how it pans out in two weeks.
A Chickenhawk in Every Dock!
That's my new slogan. We can't let these criminals go quietly into the dark night they've created for this country. The media will have to cover investigations and impeachment measures and it seems to me we the people are in dire need of the educational opportunities this airing of our dirty laundry can provide. Would that really be a waste of time as Nancy Pelosi suggested? Americans would tune in and maybe in the process regain some knowlege and understanding of our founding documents. Once inspired there's no telling where we the people might take things. Oops. I guess that's the problem.
