I do not agree with Phil Angelides position on Immigrants. Why does he think that it is okay to allow illegial immigrants a free pass? Why does he think this will get him into office. I am a deomcrate, but I will vode republican because the democrates are unable to find out what matters to most democrates today. 99% of the time, when Mexicans get into an accident, they can't speak english, or any other immigrant for that fact, they seem to be filling out schools with people who think its okay to come here and not speak the language, and most democrates agree with this position, WHY? Can we not be a welcoming coubtry and still maintain our idenity? Democrates wake up before I change my party all together.

Welcome to the site!
And thank you for speaking out. For some odd reason, when I think of republicans and walls, I think of Raygun and his famous speech about tearing them down. At that point, the stench of hypocrisy singes the hairs out of my nostrils. I'm also reminded of this:
Illegal Immigration
I, too agree that there must be a stop to illegal immigration and no more amnesty programs. We have already done that several times. Big business benefits from this illegal flow but is the Working Families that pay the price and we can't afford it. Still, I could never vote for Swartzegger because I don't think he can be trusted not to go after the unions again and he has both hands in the pockets of big business. I'm convinced that the true Arnie will resurface after the election. Unfortunately, I'm bracing myself cause poor Phil can't even count on the Hollywood vote.
However, I don't subscribe to all that Hispanic racial stereotyping from other posts.
Immigration
Those who are against LEGAL immigration (including a program to allow some kind of legalization for workers who are already here, and who are willing to pay back taxes, enroll in English classes -- and are we sure that we have classes available? -- and a fine for entering without papers) are being very short sighted. As our population ages, we need an influx of new, young workers to support and grow the economy. Other countries are aging and are not growing. They don't have enough workers to support their retired people! I have a small business, and cannot hire (at wages up to $25.00 per hour) enough people skilled in trades I need. We no longer provide shop for students, we are so convinced that college is the only path. Students who would be great at crafts are shoved into classes instead where they are doomed to failure, and when we interview them, can't even drive a nail into a board! But people from Mexico and Central and South America can paint, they can use tools. However, it's difficult to find people with papers to hire, although we have been able to find a few.
My ancestors came here in 1638. Others came later on, undoubtedly all without any "permission" from the inhabitants of the country at the time -- whether native Americans or American citizens in the early days. This country prospered and grew because people came here who had the courage to leave their own countries behind. They had the courage to leave the east coast, and move westward. Each wave of immigrants -- most of them "illegal" by today's standards -- has contributed and has become a valuable part of our culture.
I cannot believe that we are putting up the twin of the Berlin wall, rather than finding a way to welome the people who want to come here and work.
Another aspect is the fact that we actually reward businesses who take some or all of their activities offshore. How can we think it is preferable to have an American company hire someone in another country, at what would be starvation wages here, to take the place of a worker, citizen or immigrant, working here in this country. Workers who are here, even if they are not citizens, but if they are legal, will spend money here. They will pay taxes here. Workers in India and Pakistan don't spend a penny in the American economy. All that money stays overseas.
