Why has the blogosphere dropped Lamont ...

... like a hot potato?

Ned Lamont was the blogosphere's first primary victory, but now he's probably going to lose the general election. I seldom see his name on the blogs any more. I see negative things about Lieberman, but never anything positive about Lamont. Why is that?

Do bloggers have what it takes to actually get a candidate elected? And if we don't, what are we trying to accomplish?

From Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire:

Lamont's Lull

In a record week, futures in Ned Lamont continued to plummet in the political market. Big board polls put the Connecticut Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate falling sharply behind incumbent independent Joseph Lieberman. Most legit polls that insiders and serious observers look to find [Lamont] stuck at no better than 10 points behind the three term incumbent.

Democrats around Connecticut and in DC are concluding that Lamont has gone in two months since his primary victory from triumphant insurgent to stymied novice. His campaign was largely somnolent for the five weeks after the August 8th primary. Lamont ignored whatever opportunities they were for a bounce after he shook Connecticut and the nation’s political class with his 4 point victory on a record turnout…

I wonder if he is out of money...or has been threatened ...

Lamont just recently pumped

Lamont just recently pumped around $500K more of his own money into his campaign for media coverage. I believe that he has spent around $3-4M of his own money so far.

With the DLC AND the Republicans backing Lieberman, I suspect that he is close to running out of money, and his supporters are disheartened.

I also agree with Carolyn that it appears that the blogosphere has abandoned Lamont as well, and that is a shame. It seems like many are willing to accept "the lesser of two evils" and allow the DLC to continue to sell out the Democratic Party.

He's been writing a lot of checks ...

... to his own campaign. I don't think he's been threatened, I just think he has a campaign staff that knows how to win primaries, but doesn't have a clue about winning general elections.

And the major bloggers are just ignoring the whole thing.

DLC traitors

That a phony panderer like Liebermann can be bankrolled back into prominence by money funneled through the Republican party isn't what may doom Lamont and other Progressive Democratic candidates, it's the DLC politicians who are the real traitors here, they are the ones who keep the Repugs in power.

Actually, the DLC

Actually, the DLC “politicians” are merely pawns of the real culprits behind the insidious Democratic “Leadership” Council. Two of the neocon posers who have infiltrated the Democratic Party, under the guise of being “New Democrats” are Al From and Will Marshall:

In addition to his duties as the president of the PPI, Marshall kept himself busy in the last few years. Among other things, he served on the board of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, an organization co-chaired by Joe Lieberman and John McCain whose aim was to build bipartisan support for the invasion of Iraq.

Marshall also signed, at the outset of the war, a letter issued by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) expressing support for the invasion. Marshall signed a similar letter sent to President Bush put out by the conservative Social Democrats/USA group on Feb. 25, 2003, just before the invasion. The SD/USA letter urged Bush to commit to "maintaining substantial U.S. military forces in Iraq for as long as may be required to ensure a stable, representative regime is in place and functioning."

One of just a handful of Marshall's co-signatories on that letter was Bruce Jackson, who also happens to be the head of the PNAC (whose letter Marshall also signed) and the founder of the aforementioned Committee for the Liberation of Iraq. Jackson is not only a neo-con of high rank and one of the chief pom-pom wavers for the war effort. He was also a vice president in the weapons division of Lockheed-Martin between 1993 and 2002—meaning that he was one of the implied targets of Bowling for Columbine, which came out in Jackson's last year with the company.

Clearly, Marshall was thinking about the good of the Democratic Party, and not the integrity of his grimy little network of missile-humping cronies, when he and Al From made the curious—and curiously conspicuous—decision to denounce Moore, Hollywood and France at the DLC meeting in early November.

I work in Lamont country

once in a while, and was there for the last 6 days. The people in CT appear to be more laid back about elections, but more resolved than they may look. Electing Lamont may be the one way that CT repugs get back at Washinton for going insane. Look for Lamont to come out with a devastating attack prior to the election. The fat lady isn't out of bed yet. Lesser of evils......indeed is in the eye of the beholder.

Laid back for Lamont

If six years of Republican lies and wars and scandals don't make Americans completely wake up and see the truth, what can Lamont say at the last minute before elections to change their minds and sway their votes ? And why doesn't he unleash his scathing attacks now, why wait ? He's probably saying and doing everything he can, and if enough voters don't care, then Benedict Liebermann will be back in his rat seat.

Apparently Ned has quite a bit to say...and he appears to...

only be very close to Lieberman.

Lamont ??? have you been blinded by the light ?

If Lamont is a Democrat , then I am a Martian

This guy comes from long line of Reduplicates
And is Illuminati to the core

He cares no more for people or good works, then the rest of the Elite power structure.

Who are you trying to fool?? OHH Everybody

BaNoyes, Does it matter at this point that Lamont is...

from a long line of Repugs? He seems to be saying what we, as a party seeking to regain power, want to hear.

Compared to the Repug Leiberman, Lamont might be a saint in disguise.

Leiberman has been fired. Lamont cannot do any worse, and may just surprise everyone.

Somewhere in here is the idea that in this particular case, Mickey Mouse would be a welcome change.

If you are a Progressive

If you are a Progressive Democrat, then I am OSB. Even if you pose as a Democrat, your obvious support of Lieberman puts you in the DLC camp, and you are a part of the problem with the Democratic Party.

Lamont is head and shoulders above Lieberman in ALL areas of ethics, honesty, and pure Americanism. Lieberman, and the rest of his "New Democrat" pals are much worse than any traditionally Conservative Republican that ever existed. That they call themselves "Democrats" is a joke.
