Here in Georgia, we have a U.S. House contest that isn't getting the attention it deserves. The new GA-3rd Congressional District pits incumbant Republican Lynn Westmoreland against newcomer Democrat Mike McGraw.

Westmoreland has been a consistent rubber stamp for the policies of George Bush. The only time he ever votes against the administration is when the Republican majority on an issue is so over-whelming his vote doesn't matter. Westmoreland was one of the loudest Republicans opposing the recently renewed Voting Rights Act, and has now threatened to sue to prevent its enactment. Fortunately, the man has never introduced a single piece of legislation, and only co-sponsered one bill (to display the ten commandments in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate), which went no where.

Democrat Mike McGraw is a Newnan, GA businessman who describes himself as a conservative Democrat and includes a motto of "Faith, Family and Fiscal Responsibility" on this website. So why am I, a non-religious liberal supporting Mike? Because I've heard Mike speak, talked to him personally on a number of occasions, and the man makes real sense. Because "conservative" doesn't have to mean pig-headedly, stupidly being willing to throw money into a war while our nation destroys our future. Because Mike McGraw DOES understand we have problems seriously impacting the ordinary people of the middle class in this country, and he believes in working with others to find the common ground to solve those problems. Because Mike is the right man for the job in what is a largely suburban-to-rural, church-going and conservative district.

Westmoreland's seat CAN be turned into a Democratic Party one if we make some noise and get more people on board.
