SOUTHERN BORDER FIXED:

Democrats would eliminate its main cause, Illegal Job, by:

1) Raising the minimum wage so that Americans police the Market for FREE.

2) Responding to the above Americans informing on Illegal Employers, by instituting massive fines and criminal prosecution.

--------

Republicans can, if they like, repeal some of the top 1% tax cuts and use the money to:

1) Place guards, hand in hand, along the entire Southern Border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If you wish to save that money consider the Democratic Proposal above.

If you are a Righty or a Lefty please stop listening to the shit heads who manipulate us and just pick a cure. And for Christ's sake (literally) please don't let them get you to argue over your fundamental personality traits: Empathy on the Left and Individualism on the Right. We already know we disagree on that.

ONE PROBLEM: Once the cheap labor is gone, business owners will pass the increased costs onto the consumer. This will hurt the majority of professions who have not gotten a real raise in decades as opposed to top tier professions who have gotten a 150% raise. Since those professions worked for less before, it is likely they will continue at thier labors at their old pay (adjusted for inflation).

Spreading the last decades raise around a bit would then not put a break on the Economy but instead create a boom with capital pouring into the hands of the vast majority.
To offset then the increased prices due to the end of cheap labor I would propose:

  • Zero Tax on the first ~$60,000 made by every American. (For revenue neutrality ~39% on additional dollars. A little more at first, a little less after the economic boom kicks in).

Potential Economic power houses reside throughout the population, not just within present day Aristocratic lines. They need capital to grow the Economy. Pro Worker is Pro Growth at this point in history.

By the way, there are only ever two questions when speaking of Economics:

1) Efficiency concerns.

2) Ethics.

I argue in the opening post about the Efficiency of a lower tax for the vast majority with an attendant increase for top tier professions. I did not address the ethics of such but I am happy to speak to it if any poster has reservations.

I need not make an appeal to any arguments of the form "its the right thing to do."

Jim, thanks for reducing

Jim, thanks for reducing this controversy to its root causes and resulting ramifications.

In the past, Republicans were happy with high unemployment rates because that led to lower wages. The neoconservatives, beginning with Raygun, have tweaked that strategy to allow lower unemployment rates while repressing collective worker representation. The economic result is the same however, because more workers are realizing less real income, while the aristocrats' profits are skyrocketing.

The actual result of this imbalanced neocon policy has been a "strong" corporate economy which masks a depressed consumer economy. When the inevitable credit burden began causing too many bankruptcies, the neocons took action to, yet again, protect the wealthy from the underpaid.

As you point out, a true "shared pain, shared gain" economic boom only happens when more money is in the hands of the workers/consumers.

Stop the Republicans' Border Fence Act!!!

A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS.ORG

Republicans in Washington want to build a wall along the border with Mexico and deport more than 12 million hard-working immigrants. They are trying to win elections by attacking immigrant families.

We need your help to take control of Congress away from the Republicans. People from across the country are using our web site to stand up for immigrants. If everyone gives just a few dollars, together we will have millions of dollars to defeat the Republicans.

This began an exchange between AnnF and me, also found here.

That THREAD has been locked but comments can be made here.

(The original post on that THREAD did bother me because it did not provide a framework for debate. It worried me that it might be a Republican way of getting the dogs to once again fight. After briefly looking at the site I felt that for the time being I'll assume the site is just in its early stages so I reserve comment for now.)

Three things folks:

Three things folks when you get your emotional batteries a running:

1) Poor slobs do not have your money. Rich slobs do. (You worked for too little and the profit went to them. That is how one gets rich. No other way.)

2) We are ALL "bums". Unless you start in the woods naked you owe your standard of living to slaves, past and present. How much welfare have you received? (And you know its a trap;)

3) Please really read what is said here. We are not discounting the problem. We are not discounting people who are directly affected, using any reasonable means necessary of ridding themselves of nuisances or THUGS, including using their legal status.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to tell anyone who cares, this issue has truly disheartened me.

Conservatives used these near slaves to make a buck. Abuse at the top abounds. Suddenly, with the GOP in free fall, this becomes an issue for the slave masters!?!?!? Suddenly they get to be hero's by bitching and moaning about those they exploit? They get off scott free and more. They are advancing.

In the end you will pay for a Wall AND higher prices if the Conservative plan keeps advancing.

Any LOCAL "wall" AFTER a Democratic Plan is in place is a completely different debate. That is not a debate I would enter in the way I enter the debate for a National Plan.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The median American salary is 1.6 inches of 100 dollar bills per year.

The bottom 99% make only 15 inches per year max.

The top 1% make up to 30 miles high of 100 dollar bills per year.

The entire Republican Machine is based on getting the 2 inch and lower crowd to bitch about one another. We can solve the Illegal Worker problem without ruining the union we must come into to effect change for the vast majority.

And let me be frank: I'm happy to wear my heart on my sleeve but it seems as if not everyone has one. The alternative that is sorely needed is what our parents knew: You're a f@@@ing idiot for bitching about fellow workers when the boss is laughing all the way to the bank. (This applies in part to the Illegal Jobs debate. I would also encourage all Democrats to now use this designation as well).

It is so obvious that this

It is so obvious that this link is the entry for a Mexican lobby and I am not wasting my time with Mexicans living here and taking money from Fox.

Ann, it seems like you have a problem

with "Mexicans", period. Am I right?

How many Mexican-Americans live here, legally?
How many have obtained citizenship, or are starting
the long process of obtaining it?
How many have lived here for decades, contributing to our
economy and society as a whole?

The answer is- quite a few, especially here in California.

Do not lump them all together.
It's prejudicial, against our rules and if it continues,
you will be banned from this blog.

A Mexican lobby = Mexicans

A Mexican lobby = Mexicans living here taking money from Fox to impede our normal government function which is to support US citizens' best interests. I am not posting in your blog Node 10031 any more.

WTH?

This doesn't even make sense- no link, no source of information,
just racist rhetoric.

AnnF, you are gone.

Ann,Do you even know when

Ann,

Do you even know when one person is posting to you or another? Your blanket statements extend to bitching about threads as if ONE person is posting there.

Further, you manage to weave your xenophobia into threads dealing with Republican Pedophilia while ALSO managing to bash Democrats via Homophobic and unamerican rhetoric!:

I bet there are pedophiles in both parties. Any time a man wants to "help" troubled youth, he needs to pass a lie detector in my opinion. And I'm sick of seeing that gay ex-governor McGreevey in the news and on the internet blogs. No one cares about his sordid sex scandal. It just goes to show you that men who are weird have hidden agendas. Two marriages and two daughters later he's now gay, or was he gay all along...No one cares...No one is listening...go see a shrink. McGreevey signed a bill that created same-sex domestic partnerships in New Jersey. Surprise surprise. He condemned a proposed constitutional amendment that would limit marriage to heterosexual couples as "a divisive and drastic tactic." So we might wonder if those who are so defensive are indeed gay. "Thirty-four days after I was elected governor of New Jersey, I began a secret affair with an aide named Golan Cipel. It destroyed my career, ruined my marriage, and helped me discover who I really am." Someone who throws away his life for a fling with a foreign national while paying him with US tax dollars as a Homeland Security Advisor is just allowed to resign and write a book. I bet you didn't know that homeland security funding went to foreign nationals or sexual partners. The people we elect are so decadent and disgusting! Both McGreevey and Foley need to be in prison.

If not, then the casual tampering with our constitution to enact it was drastic.
I agree that the McGreevey hiring you refer to was horrid.

And those who protest are not Gay. They either are broader emotionally or broader by principles in keeping with the founding of this Nation: Keeping the hell out of each other's hair while coming into union for defense.

Of course some heterosexuals DO believe quite a bit of nonsense. For example, the notion that Gays are a growing group and we are to be panicked. Any man who thinks a guy can CHOOSE to give up woman for life in order to be with men has a VERY week desire for woman himself.

On top of that you make personal attacks at the first counters to your faddish bitching about the poor guy (all Rush Limbaugh crap). When you've gained a bit of humilty consider rejoining us.

In the meantime your publication privileges have been revoked, for among other things, being wholly unresponsive to Democratic Proposals.

Next go around, please answer questions put to you. To be fair, you showed empathy in your abortion post, and a Democratic stance in your Health Care post.

She sounds like

A Kook.To be realistic most of the fervernt hard core killer repugs are not close to being fully loaded. She is someone who sees America as belonging to the face she sees in the mirror, not the million upon millions of people who came here. Texas was Mexico. We took it. They never left. Now they want to come and check out their friendes in north Mexico...the border states.

I gotta add this. I live in Easton Pa. A very diverse and historic community. We have every sort of ethnic variety known, and every sub type....and we really no shit all get along. I have had spanish of all sort work for me... Islanders...South Americans..and they all to a single man were honest and hard working. And so are the Lebanese, The Blacks, Etc.....And I might add many of these men are still in the community and say hi when I pass. Most are now business owners or shop keepers of some type, and hold their families and friends close. When we support these people(immigrants), we are the ones to benefit.

In Texas, Little Support for Putting Up Fences
Along the Rio Grande, residents say the barrier approved by Congress would sever cultural and economic ties, and cut off access to the river.
By Miguel Bustillo, Times Staff Writer
October 1, 2006

Few Americans are more fed up with the unending human caravan of illegal immigration — or more familiar with its macabre toll — than rancher Mike Vickers.

Multitudes of bedraggled migrants cut through his South Texas homestead every day to skirt U.S. Border Patrol checkpoints on their journey north, and many do not make it out alive. Vickers has found frightened children sitting in fields alone, abandoned. His dogs once brought home a human head.

He very badly wants to stop the trail of death and despair that passes by his doorstep. But when he considers the wisdom of building twin steel walls along the Rio Grande to seal off the Mexican border — the plan Congress approved early Saturday before heading home for the November election — his verdict is swift and harsh: stupid idea.

"That's just a big waste of money," said Vickers, a Texas Republican activist who heads a group opposed to illegal immigration that until recently was the state branch of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

"The Rio Grande is the lifeblood of South Texas," he said. "A wall is just going to stand between farmers and ranchers and others who need legitimate access to water. It's not going to stop the illegals."

Those who want to enter the US have been hopping over, tunneling under, and
bypassing walls ever since they were erected.

If you want to see a solution, read Jim's OP above.

Bump and Blog point:

To all Posters:

-A big no no on this, and most blogs, is a screen name which also contains a commercial internet site URL. You may click on the link to the left to learn about advertising on Democrats.com

-Another no no is attempting to make a very narrow political point WITHIN your screen name. The rules at Democrats.com speak to creating a supportive community and single issue posters are not granted publication privileges for long. This rule of thumb is a bit more subjective than the one above but should be noted.

A distraction tactic

We all know that this fence isn't going to keep people from crossing the border illegally, and anyone who honestly thinks that people will just magically stop trying to cross has never heard of the Berlin Wall, which still didn't keep people from crossing and was much smaller.

The only reason that this is even being considered is because a construction project of this magnitute will make a lot of Republican politicians and even more donors a hell of a lot of money. This is just another way for them to steal your hard earned tax money and give it to some company who will no doubt violate all sorts of labor laws to get it built cheap to maximize profit.

If you personally wish to benefit, buy stock in whatever companies are involved. At the very least, follow them...I guarantee they will go up.
