No Republicans

President Obama demonstrated his willingness to reach across the aisle by going to the House Republican Caucus - not the House Democratic Caucus - to answer their questions about the Stimulus bill. So how did they repay his generosity? By unanimously voting NO.

After enthusiastically helping George Bush create this deep economic Recession, they unanimously refuse to help President Obama prevent a Depression.

Bi-partisanship? Post-partisanship? Fuggedaboutit. The Republicans are the party of NO.

That means the only way to save our economy is to have No Republicans.

In 2008, Democrats challenged incumbent Republicans in nearly every Congressional District. In 2010, let's aim higher - let's challenge every Republican. And on Election Day 2010, let's sweep all Republicans out of Congress.

Here is a plan. Hopefully we can get the support of Netroots groups like Blue America, Bold Progressives, Color of Change, Democracy For America, Living Liberally, Moveon, Progressive Democrats of America, and True Majority, as well as blogs like AmericaBlog, CrooksAndLiars, DailyKos, DemocraticUnderground, Eschaton, FireDogLake, HuffingtonPost, Hullabaloo, MyDD, OpenLeft, TalkingPointsMemo, etc.

1. Let's form a Progressive Caucus in every Congressional District.

  • Create a group on my.barackobama.com called "No Firstname Lastname" (for example No John Boehner), so activists can use the Group search for the incumbent's name (Boehner)
  • For zipcode, use the main District Office. Use Google ("incumbent" District Office), the local phone book or search the Congressional directory.

2. On President's Day (Monday February 16), let's organize "Support President Obama" candidate caucus in every Republican district, and invite every Democrat who might want to run to speak for 10 minutes.

3. After the candidates speak, the Progressive Caucus should take a vote:

  • Endorse one of the candidates and get to work (see #4)
  • Schedule another caucus to narrow down the field and/or invite more possible candidates

4. Get to work

  • Form a campaign committee with a Treasurer and register with the FEC and ActBlue
  • Create a Gmail account as a campaign inbox (firstname.lastname@gmail.com)
  • Create two Google groups - a small discussion group for campaign organizing and a large announcement group for news
  • Use ActBlue to start collecting contributions with an initial goal of $10,000
  • Create a Facebook Cause as the campaign homepage and use the ActBlue widget
  • Encourage Facebook users to sign up as friends and participate in discussion threads
  • Create groups on democracyforamerica.org, and other social networks, with a dedicated volunteer to manage each one
  • Send the candidate and a campaign organizer to local progressive meetups like DrinkingLiberally, as well as regular Democratic clubs
  • Use campaign money to buy a Google adword using the keyword of the Republican incumbent, so everyone who searches on the Republican's name will see an ad for the Democratic challenger

Update 1: Josh Marshall suggests we target the industrial Midwest, but the Receission is affecting every part of the country.

It grated on a lot of people -- and I include myself -- to see Obama going every extra length to cater to Republican nonsense. But it's left little question who was doing what. One benefit the Republicans carry out of the 2008 election is that most of the remaining Republicans come from districts that are so red that it's hard for Democrats to ever contest them. But not all of them. And in a lot the industrial Midwest especially, the GOP is the party of 'no'.

I am registered independent but I vote Democrat. The Democratic party holds most of my ideals but I am sad to say that we are not doing what is best for the country. I believe that it is not the Republicans but our own party acting how the Republicans did when they were in charge. The Democratic party is bullying and unwilling to compromise even though our new President values compromise. Despite our majority we need to reach across the isle because the last time I checked we are not Democrats and Republicans but Americans

I believe that you are

I believe that you are confusing Middle American Republicans, with the fanantical neoconservative professional "leadership" politicians who represent them. The current crop of PNAC neocons in Congress are the very ones who turned a blind eye to the criminal activities of the Dubya administration, and caused the mess we Americans find ourselves in today.

To be sure, we have our share of "Bush Democrats" in Congress, but we are working on removing them as well. Contrary to your claim that the Democratic Party is "bullying and unwilling to compromise," nothing could be further from the truth. American Democrats are just unwilling to compromise with the anti-Constitutional neoconservative Republicans who would offer up more of the same corporatist pandering that the Dubya administration fostered.

I will say it again: the majority of Middle Americans (both Democrat and Republican) are fiscally Conservative, and socially Liberal. The Dubya/Gingrich/Raygun hyper-partisan neoconservatives are neither, and have caused our country great harm. No amount of "compromise" is possible with these traitors.

Steve.

Details please.

What is the compromise you desire?

Thanks,

and was met with a closed Republican fist.

There were *always* Democrats who were willing to support George Bush, from the beginning of his administration to the very end.

Yesterday Republicans made it clear that they will *never* support President Obama.

will never stand! I can see that we our still divided by Parties and the house approval is bebow 30%, this indicates that all the members are not there for the people! If they can't start operating as a unit, we will have 2 years of HELL!

the American people are united

behind Barack Obama, whose approval rating is an astonishing 71%.

Sadly the Republican Party is united behind Rush Limbaugh, whose position is clear: "I hope he fails."

about Obama, I was saying that congress wasn't to tune with the people. I will also add all the Senate to the bad boys list!

If fingers are being pointed at our bad economy it would be pointed at both houses and both parties, because nobody has any confident left in these jokers!

Remember Old Geecer, when you "point a finger" at someone, there are three fingers pointing back at you. What did you, or any of us for that matter, do besides bitch and moan (mainly about Iraq) for the first six-years of PNAC neocon rule? It wasn't until November of 2006 that the tide began to turn, and back then the economy (on the surface) was doing just fine. It wasn't until the end of 2007 that the worldwide economy started its current meltdown, but the roots of the economic collapse (de-regulation and deficit-spending) go back to the beginning of Dubya's first term in office.

I agree that the combined Congress shares a large part of the blame for their lack of oversight. We need to remember, however, that for the first six of the eight-years the Dubya administration was ruining our economy, Congress was completely controlled by rubber-stamp neocon Republicans with a virtual fillibuster-proof majority. And, even after 2006, we Democrats "controlled" Congress by a very slim (and shaky, due to the likes of Lieberman and other DLC "centrists") majority.

After the 2008 elections (only two short months ago) we now have a much larger majority, a moderately-Progressive Democratic President, and the blessings of the American People. It is time, once again, for we Democrats to clean up the mess left to us by corporate-corrupted neoconservative Republicans.

The real reasons that our economy is in shambles can be laid directly at the feet of the Dubya/Cheney PNAC neoconservatives, and the de-regulation (mainly through Executive Orders and "Rule Changes") of their Wall Street corporate cronies. They used the Taxpayer's U.S. Treasury as their own personal bank account -- and bankrupted it.

I haven't forgotten

I haven’t forgotten about Bushy regime, and I haven’t forgotten about his last 2 years. When Pelosi tabled a bill to impeach Bushy, I also know she is saying that she is a Democrat. I also haven’t forgotten about all the Democrats that was against the Iraq war and voted to fund the war, because they had added “Pork” for their farmers and then got on TV to brag about it, and failed to tell the family that because of the “Pork” their Son or Daughter gave their live. I’m old and maybe I remember too many things that were because of greed and corruption. This corruption game that both Parties are playing is an on going game! The Taxpayers are footing the bill for all this when the people should be getting this for our infrastructures, healthcare, schools and etc. We have become a Country, which has lost it ability to govern! Obama was a very good start in cleaning up our Capital, but As long as Reid and Pelosi are in charge, they will continue to be a stumbling block for We The People!
