No More Betrayals: Let's Replace the Bush Democrats

On Thursday and Friday, the American people were betrayed twice by House "Democratic" Leader Steny Hoyer (right) and his Bush Democrats.

On Thursday, 80 Bush Democrats voted to give George Bush another $163 billion to occupy Iraq and plunder its oil for another year, even though 68% of Americans want to bring our troops safely home this year.

And on Friday, 105 Bush Democrats voted to give immunity to George Bush and the telecoms for illegally wiretapping American citizens even before 9/11, and to allow Bush and the telecoms to keep doing it - thereby shredding the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.

We're mad as hell, and we're not gonna take it any more. So let's take the Democratic Party back from Steny Hoyer and the Bush Democrats.

With your support, we will replace each one with an "Aggressive Progressive" Democrat who will bring our troops home from Iraq and fulfill their solemn oaths to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

And we're starting today with John Barrow (GA12), who betrayed us on both votes. Watch Barrow pledge his complete devotion to George Bush during Friday's warrantless wiretapping debate.

Georgia's primaries are on July 15 - just 3 weeks away. And Barrow is facing a dramatic primary challenge from State Senator Regina Thomas.

Thomas doesn't just look different, she thinks different. She wants to bring our troops safely home from Iraq immediately. And here's what she told me on Friday:

"I was really appalled at the actions of Congress and especially my Congressman from the 12th District in Georgia, John Barrow, for voting in favor of the Bush-Republican surveillance bill that would make it very easy, without a warrant, to wiretap any American citizen."

On Friday, Regina Thomas became our first endorsed candidate of 2008. And that was not just because she's an "Aggressive Progressive," but also because she can win.

In Georgia's Democratic Presidential primary on February 5, 70% of the voters in GA12 were African-American. Thomas isn't running on her race, though, but rather her record of accomplishment over 12 years in the state legislature. This has Barrow running for his political life by avoiding every chance to debate Thomas because he simply cannot compete with a real Democrat.

In a few hours, our endorsement raised over $1,176 from 31 donors. Today we'd like to raise $10,000 by encouraging 1,000 of our 500,000 subscribers to contribute $10 each directly to Regina Thomas's campaign.

Can you help?

In 2005-6, we raised nearly $80,000 for pro-impeachment House candidates through ImpeachPAC (and helped elect Keith Ellison in MN05), so I know what we're capable of.

Let's send a message to Steny Hoyer and his Bush Democrats: that the Democratic Party belongs to us, not to George Bush. And starting today we're taking it back.

Thanks for all you do!

Wait! My Pro-Bush Congressman Not On The List!

Eliot Engel is a ten-term Congressman from NY's 17th who seems to be working harder for pro-war Israeli lobbyists then for US Democrats. Since moving into his district in 2003, I haven't seen an inch of backbone in standing up for average Americans.

Just the opposite, he voted YES for the Iraq AUMF, YES for the COPE bill in favor of big cable/telecoms and against net neutrality, YES for each Iraq war appropriation including last week's and YES for telecom immunity. He staunchly opposes impeachment investigations and has used his Congressional seat and taxpayer time for the following:

1. He is pushing for Bush's ill-advised Colombian Trade Deal after a junket to Columbia with Condoleezza Rice
2. He invited radical right-wing Israeli war hawk lobbyists to address Congressional committees
3. He advocated for the satellite radio mega-merger on the floor of Congress
4. He handed his own Congressional power over to George Bush, fighting Democratic leaders to reserve Bush's power to attack Iran without Congressional approval or oversight
5. He has announced he will be making his third appearance at annual conferences for Armageddon theorist Rev. John Hagee this July

I'm scratching my head to figure out why "big business" Engel is not on the above list. Can somebody tell me what the criteria for being on the list is? What am I missing here? For links and background, see

the list consists of

challengers to Bush Democrats.

Engel has no primary challenger this time. Jessica Flagg ran against Engel in 2006 but only received 17%.

Engel has no primary challenger this time.

You nailed the heart of the problem! Thanks for the clarification - hopefully national attention will yield a fire-breathing Democratic candidate in the near future.

Baird's not on the list, either

Very hard to take this seriously, if Brain Baird's not on the list.
Brian Baird became Right Wing Media's darling last summer, when he announced that he supported the surge.
Google News: brian baird surge, if you can't remember.
What's the point of having a majority in congress, when so many are are liebermans?
Won't they impede President Obama, as they impede progressives today?

Baird is on the list

we're supporting his opponent, Cheryl Crist.

Betrayal of the American People

Some say "information is power." However, whether or not that "information" is based in fact or fiction is irrelevant in a Totalitarian State. The purpose of gathering true or false information on all citizens is to control all who oppose those in power. That's totalitarian rule. Now, why would Representative Nancy Pelosi, who is from a Progressive, not a Regressive, district, vote to give immunity to Bush and the telecommunications industries? (Oh, and by the way, one of the bloggers is confusing Conservatives and Republicans with the "Banana Republicans" who voted for immunity for Bush and the telecommunications corporations. True Conservatives and true Republicans defend ALL of the Articles of the Constitution and ALL of the Amendments to the Bill of Rights.) With regard to the question as to why Progressives, such as Representative Pelosi, voted to give immunity to those who are shredding the 4th Amendment, there is a one-word question that keeps nagging some of us who have followed the Bush administrations' attempted slaughter of the 4th Amendment. That one-word question is--threats? Mind you, this is only a question, but it is a question that must be asked. When representatives of the people in a democracy take the oath to office, the well being of the common good and of the people they represent are above their personal well being and the well being of their families and friends. If these representatives of the people cannot place the well being of those they represent above all else, they should either relinquish their seats in Congress for having violated their sacred trust with the people, or they should have the courage to consult with the American people about why they are considering abandoning their representation of their constituents. They should not just remain silent as the Constitution they vowed to uphold and the people’s rights they promised to protect are undermined by a president who neither respects the Constitution and the Bill of Rights nor cares about the people he is supposed to serve. Such Representatives in Congress need to be replaced in the next election.

Now you understand.

Now you understand why so many left the democratic party to become independents. Has there been any progressive legislation passed or at least got as far as Bushies veto pen? I don't believe so. Time to kick to the curb watered down republicans(bush democrats).

Just out of curiosity, how

Just out of curiosity, how does becoming an "Independent" or a Greenie help the current political situation? Isn't that the same as running from the fight, and leaving the rest of we Liberal Democrats to do the heavy lifting?

The hard reality is that either a Republican or a Democrat will be elected to the Oval Office, and 98% of the Congressional seats. Those who seek "change" by threatening to withhold their vote, or voting for a third-Party candidate, have accomplished nothing but selfishly changing their own situations by taking the easy way out.

The unique political system in the United States is a de facto two-Party system, and always has been. Third-Parties come and go, but our system has evolved into two major political Parties, and the only way to affect real change is by working within the system. That is exactly what Will Rogers meant when he said, "I don't belong to any 'organized' political Party -- I'm a Democrat."

It is those of you who have decided that becoming an "Independent" will somehow make life easier, that have allowed the Democratic Party to be overtaken by "centrist" Democrats who align themselves with Big Business and become corporate whores. It is you "Independents" and third-Party drop outs who have left the hard work of cleaning up our Party to we Liberal Democrats.

Instead of sitting on the outside and whining about the state of the Democratic Party with statements like, "Now you understand why so many have left the [d]emocratic party to become independents," roll up your sleeves and get to work. We real Democrats need all of the help we can get.

Some useful information, please

Instead of the useless rhetoric & demagoguery that is nothing new & a waste of everyone's time, print a list of congress (by state) of who voted for what. Then people could do something useful-- like cast an informed vote, for a change. Engineer & mathematician from the national laboratories ( e.g, Los Alamos nuclear weapons lab, etc) now retired in Oklahoma, here not one in ten knows their "elected" representatives or what they "stand for". Is the democratic party determined to loose another election ? They are good at that. You keep cancer within your ranks, like Liberman & many others. Name them ! !

here are the worst votes
