No Jail Time for Libby? It's Impeachment Time for Cheney and Bush!

There's one reason why Bush kept Libby out of jail: not because the sentence was excessive, but simply to keep him from ratting on Cheney and himself. In mob circles, that's called silencing a witness. Here's Marcy Wheeler:
Well, George did it. Made sure that Scooter wouldn’t flip rather than do jail time. He commuted Libby’s sentence, guaranteeing not only that Libby wouldn’t talk, but retaining Libby’s right to invoke the Fifth. This amounts to nothing less than obstruction of justice.
Bush has now joined Libby and Cheney in the criminal coverup of the felonious outing a covert CIA agent. And the public is outraged - 72% of Americans oppose a pardon. What can you do?
- Email your Representatives to Impeach Cheney
- Email your Representatives to Impeach Bush
- Email the House Judiciary Committee to Start Hearings on H.Res. 333, Articles of Impeachment for Vice President Cheney
- Organize a Honk to Impeach
- Join your local Congressional District Impeachment Committee
- Don't waste your time calling the White House. Call your Representative to impeach Cheney and Bush:
(800) 828-0498 / (800) 459-1887 / (800) 614-2803 / (866) 340-9281 / (866) 338-1015
Update 1: Of course Bush had to lie about the sentencing. He had to flip-flop on respecting a jury verdict. And he had to break all White House rules to keep Libby out of jail. But that's the least of it.
Update 2: House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers' statement is pathetic:
“Until now, it appeared that the President merely turned a blind eye to a high ranking Administration official leaking classified information. The President’s action today makes it clear that he condones such activity. This decision is inconsistent with the rule of law and sends a horrible signal to the American people and our intelligence operatives who place their lives at risk everyday. Now that the White House can no longer argue that there is a pending criminal investigation, I expect them to be fully forthcoming with the American people about the circumstances that led to this leak and the President’s decision today.”
They have be fully forthcoming about absolutely nothing in the 6.5 years since they stole the White House - why would they change now? As Judiciary Chairman, Conyers should schedule hearings on H.Res. 333 immediately.
Update 3: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's statement is pathetic:
“The President’s decision to commute Mr. Libby’s sentence is disgraceful. Libby’s conviction was the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq War. Now, even that small bit of justice has been undone. Judge Walton correctly determined that Libby deserved to be imprisoned for lying about a matter of national security. The Constitution gives President Bush the power to commute sentences, but history will judge him harshly for using that power to benefit his own Vice President’s Chief of Staff who was convicted of such a serious violation of law.”
I don't give a rat's ass how History judges Bush. I want our Representatives in Congress to judge him harshly through impeachment, removal from office, and jail!
Update 4: Speaker Pelosi's statement is pathetic:
The President’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence does not serve justice, condones criminal conduct, and is a betrayal of trust of the American people.
The President said he would hold accountable anyone involved in the Valerie Plame leak case. By his action today, the President shows his word is not to be believed. He has abandoned all sense of fairness when it comes to justice, he has failed to uphold the rule of law, and he has failed to hold his Administration accountable.
Then Madame Speaker it's your job to hold him accountable through impeachment!
Update 5: House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's statement is pathetic:
“It is very disappointing that the President has chosen to substitute his judgment for that of the trial judge who heard all the evidence in Mr. Libby’s case, as well as the federal appellate panel which ruled today that Mr. Libby could not delay serving his prison term. The charges against Mr. Libby were not insubstantial; a jury convicted him of lying to authorities and obstructing the investigation into the public disclosure of a CIA operative’s identity. In the last election, accountability for wrongdoing was a major issue. With this decision today in the Libby case, the President continues to demonstrate that he rejects accountability for wrongdoing in his Administration.”
Then Mr. Hoyer it's your job to hold him accountable through impeachment!

It worked with Liddy
Now they're going to do it with Libby.
Watch as he appeals his convictions and they're overturned.
They know what works. They've done it before.
That's absolutley correct.
That's absolutley correct. And who is going to stop them anyway???
We will
Action Alert!!!
E-mail HR 333 to every one of the mutha's and get out message out. We shut down illegal immigration and we can shut the Bush It down too.
E-mail all of them at least twice a day.
They'll get the message. Try Patrick Leahy. He's ripe and ready to get Cheney for the flick off. I know it's all about evidence but with the foxes in the safehouse, who's gonna give us the evidence.
Impeachment is the only way for us to get the justice we deserve and to let this bunch of crooked tax embezzling crooks know just how pissed we are when they ignore our laws.
PUT THE FIRE UNDER THEIR COWBOY NEOCON BOOTS.

No Need
Libby is the fall guy for his boss. No pardon is needed since Libby will cash out over the next few years (books, speeches,
etc). The performance of this present congress is disgraceful. Bad enough the executive is not punished for alter of
WMD data, so Halliburton can get its 100 billion no bid, you can't even pass a budget and extend the Republican bill
instead. When you are purposely lied to in order to go to war, you don't let those responsible off the hook. You don't
leave a devastated country your inept actions created. I believe 400,000 ground troops are needed to secure Iraq.
This presidents abuse of the greatest ground troops on the planet has made impossible the ability to recruit enough
men to secure Iraq. Petraeus will need 4-5 years with little setback to do same at current troop levels.
Get Over It
Libby didnt do anything illegal. He was attacked by the left's bought and paid for judge-activist. Vallery Plame wasn't undercover and its funny how the dem's have singled out one person after another from the whitehouse trying to bring Pres. Bush down. You ladies are still pissed because you lost Florida back in 2000 and couldn't steal the whitehouse back. So now your trying to discredit every republican since your leftist democrat commie leaders are spineless.
Pres. Clinton harped on Saddams WMD during his entire presidency, why weren't you liberal commie fags bitching then?
I remember that both Rep. and Dem's voted to go to war unanimously. Including Sen. Clinton. Why weren't you limp dicks blogging and protesting then?
I got a big news flash for you, if a dem wins in 08, they ain't going to pull out of Iraq either. I served in Iraq, and I'll be leaving for Afg. soon, so I don't see why your bitching. Have fun stuffing your face while your blogging while I'm over there giving you the right to act like a douchebag.
All your liberals know how to do is protest. do you actually have jobs, or do you just sit around your coffee shops bitching all day about a war you'll never go to so you can fit in with all the other liberals? You lead a sad miserable life if Pres. Bush is the bane of your existance.
P.S.-the only way we are going to get 400,000 troops in Iraq is if your democrats get their way and bring back the draft!
-So tell me why you work for
-So tell me why you work for bitch wages (well below market value) brought to you by inbred Conservative Aristocrats who ensure their kids, and kid's kid's, and kid's kid's kid's never have to work a day in their lives?
-Tell me why you're left hanging in Stop Loss when tens of millions of able body chicken hawk Republican voters could sign up but prefer to just rattle flaccid sabers?
-Oh hell, lets be real. You're not a soldier. You're certainly no military strategist as the clusterfuck in Iraq (well predicted by EVERYONE with a true education predicted) verifies.
Lets chat dumb ass.

Deep breaths...Conservatism
Deep breaths...
Conservatism is NOT a lifestyle choice -- it's genetic and they were born that way. If they would only stop that damned annoying foot tapping in public restrooms though...
TO ALL LIBERALS: Political Conservatives have no balls. NONE.
I'll try to forgive, but could the posers make at least one non stereotypical point when they come on?
They would rather be given a TITLE than a pay increase. All the Aristocrats have to do is tell them that to demand more for one's labor is a Commie thing to do and they garner wage slaves for life.
It would break their little hearts so don't tell them that their superiors are all Commies by that same definition.
On wages: Political Conservatives have no balls. NONE.
On Iraq: Political Conservatives have no balls. NONE. Otherwise there would be no troops left in Stop Loss.
(I use the term Political Conservative to differentiate between the chicken shit flaccid idiots and folks who are simply conservative as is their good ole American right).
And by the way...
...Would it be too much trouble for a f@@@ing Republican to ACTUALLY GO AFTER THE M@@@@@F@@@@@@ who attacked us on 911 rather than chasing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?
World War III should have been waged in Afghanistan and Bin Laden's head brought to the USA.
And might you tell your little Conservative friends to stop living off the Welfare of the troops and actually pay them real SALARIES. Might start by doubling all military personal salaries by retaining the Estate Tax rather than allowing generations of American freeloaders to produce nothing on daddy's money. You may be content as a welfare whore but those of us who actually contribute to this civilization are not.
Nice joke about being a soldier bub.
Dear Blkhwkdrvr: ...
If you are what you say you are, then you are a chopper pilot. Chopper pilots are officers. As such, the language, disinformation, lies, and warped opinions you expressed in your post fall under the UCMJ: Conduct Unbecoming An Officer.
Since you must have been miseducated in Tennessee, a state that has been in and out of court since 1927 in efforts to teach that 'old time religion' instead of difficult academics, we can all sympathize with you. Poor little fella. The glory path you seek in Afghanistan will probably happen, hopefully sooner rather than later since the sooner you achieve 'glory,' the fewer innocents you will murder.
As a vet, and there are several of us on this site, I wonder where you were when we served? Were you still a twinkle in your Daddy's eye?
We have rules on this site for people like you:
You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own FACTS. It appears obvious to thinking and rational people(and most liberals are such)that you are spending too much time listening to the Oxycontin Queen...Rush Bimbo. Ya know, the guy who runs off to Costa Rica to find little boys to play with. You Repugs! Perverts all.
If you had real 'nads,' you would spend a little time researching all the lies you just attempted to pass off as truth.
The vets on this site are ashamed of you. Think about that one for a while sonny.

By removing Libby’s jail term from his sentence, President Bush once again demonstrates his lack of respect for the American system of law and Democracy as a whole. Bush might as well have offered Libby an outright pardon. Frankly, Libby deserves to serve his time for the crimes he has committed. If the world were fair, Cheney would also see his time in prison. It is vital that we hold on our political leaders accountable for their actions in every arena and on every issue. In the realm of global poverty, for example, we need to push our leadership in Washington to abide by the UN's Millennium Development Goals, which the United States along with 191 other nations signed in 2000 and which commit the global community to eliminating extreme poverty by 2025. So as Bush saves Libby from being held accountable for his illegal and undemocratic actions, we are compelled to think about what our other political leaders are doing (or, rather, what they aren’t doing) and hold them accountable, just as we have tried to hold Libby accountable.
It does reaffirm how stupid
It does reaffirm how stupid i.e. misguidedly loyal these idiots are, that Libby would put his life and career in the hands of Dick Cheney. Too bad Libby you loose. As for those who are crying all over TV about the punishment being too severe for the crime...hey you are the law and order candidates, remember? Just wait Karl will fall on his face one day and find out that the law of cause and effect is a real law ;)
Actually I think it was a good day for our side. Libby still is a fellon and will lose all the privelages that suggests and Bush is an ass for half-assed pardoning him. Win win for our side IMO. I think it was a good day in Mudville ;)

I can't believe this crap. I
I can't believe this crap. I am so angry. I called that first number up there and could not get through to Congressman Crowley's office - and wound up cursing the friggen operator when she said she doesn't take messages.
bu$h and his crime crew are above the law.
Alright, folks. Where is the outrage? Anyone go to Kmart or WalMart yet and pick up a set of balls? Please do and send them to the Dems in Congress. They need a good set to even say or do anything against the bu$h crime syndicate.
BTW, I was watching Al Sharpton on MSNBC's Hardball tonight. One of his guests was a conservanazi from the "American Spectator", a conservanazi rag. His comeback about bu$h pardoning Libby, was, now get this, this is very original,................................... well, you know, President Clinton pardoned.
The conservanazis go back to that same lame action. If all else fails, blame the most powerful political family in the whole wide world, the Clintons. They do it everytime.
So, someone wake up Pelosi and tell her to PUT IMPEACHMENT NOT ON THE TABLE BUT ON THE INDICTMENT!
Wake up, people!
BUCK FUSH !!!
There's plenty of outrage
There's plenty of outrage out there on the blogs. Hearing the same sort of (meaningful)anger/indignation from our reps in Congress is another thing! I'm a little 'underwhelmed' by the statements given above in the forum....
Send a box of balls for them all
Take about a dozen boxes, but at least they will have some.
Why not try working with our congressmen in all fifty states.
E-mail them too.

A link to the internal White House phonebook
Here. They can't shut the whole White House phone system down, even if the main switchboard is down.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!
What are you 2 morons (Pelosi and Reid) doing other than collecting
a paycheck!
PUT IMPEACHMENT ON THE TABLE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell me the difference between a sex stain (Clinton) and high crimes and treason that this #%#%$& president has committed? This White
House is the most corrupt that I've seen in my 50 years on this
planet. Bush has screwed us more than Nixon ever did.
We all are mad and angry that you're not representing us!
And dear ms. pelosi.....don't call me anymore looking for money.
I'll tell you caller to go f*ck herself like I did several weeks
ago when you called.
Howard Dean gave me a survey on what's important to me?
I had to ask myself if my own party doesn't know what's important to me after all this Bush It, then what the hell am I supporting them for.
They know what's important to me but they didn't have Justice in any of the questions. Trick questions on BS that is not as relavant as impeachment.
I answered the questions at first in red ink to show urgency, but then had to add comments to get my point across. One was why didn't the party support Barack. Hillary is no spring chicken to the Bush It policies in place the last twenty years and what did she do while in there. If it was politically incorrect, she didn't vote for it. Well, according to the rich elites and corporations promoting this mess, We the people are politically incorrect. So she's not voting for us.
Nafta was her hubby's brainchild and yet she didn't say a word. Now she is promoting more outsourcing and it makes me sick to know how many more jobs will go overseas to other developing low wage paying countries.
Impeach the crooks.
Clean the People's House of crooked bribed and lobbing senate and congressional members and let's get back to being a leader in the world.
It may take years for them to trust us again, which is why we need to show change in DC. Did anyone watch the God's Warriors on CNN, with Christianne Amapour?
Get your blue tsunami, orange impeach shirts, and honk like hell to get them out.

Kim, at least Howard Dean
Kim, at least Howard Dean and the DNC are reaching out to grassroots Democrats. The survey you received is a part of Dr. Dean's 50-State Initiative, to bring the Party back to its grassroots.
Did you get any similar surveys from Al From or Harold Ford of the DLC? How about from Nancy Pelosi or Rahm Emanuel of the DCCC? Maybe a few questions from Harry Reid or Chuck Shumer of the DSCC? Or were their messages all about what they think that you should stand for, and contribute money to?
Those Democrats who so desperately want to blame Howard Dean and the DNC for all of the internal ills of the Democratic Party really should do a little research. The DNC, under the chairmanship of Dr. Dean has done more to revitalize the Democratic Party in the past two years, than all of these other "centrist" splinter DINO groups put together -- and then some. The DNC is a grassroots organization, and you, me, and all Democrats are responsible for its slow demise. Dr. Dean is attempting to revitalize grassroots participation, and regain control of the Democratic Party for we grassroots Democrats, and not for some corporate-sponsored DINO group.
The Republicans don't have this internal turmoil because the RNC is fully in control, all the way up to the White House (or it may be the other way around, but they are cohesive).
On the other hand, over the past decade or so, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has been marginalized, and the Democratic Party has been split apart, by the DLC and their New Democrat members of the DCCC and the DSCC, thanks in large part to Howard Dean's DINO predecessor, Terry McAuliffe. Their "centrist" stand maintains that traditional Democrats are too Liberal, and these DINOs (Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Rahm Emanuel, et al) have labeled Dr. Dean, and us, as "looney lefties."
Dr. Dean and the DNC represent the traditional "Democratic Wing" of the Democratic Party.
Is anyone really surprise?
The two tier Judicial System has always worked that way. The rich Americans; be it the neo-cons Clintons special favor to Marc Rich or neo-con Bush special favor to Libby.
Many innocent poor people are wrongfully prosecuted and in prison, while many rich criminals walk free. It is all about money in America. Money buys justice for the rich, and that will never change. Not as long as poor and struggling families, are impressed by fame and money of the rich. The rich are allowed to buy the White House, Congress and Senate. And none of those losers in politics care about justice for ALL, they only care about justice for the rich and/or infamous.
WHOA, THERE BIG FELLA!
I signed two of the petitions to remove THEM. Then I started to be a little concerned; Will I be, shot or loose my SS? The only income I have. About 16,000 a year.
DITTO, ALL THE ABOVE!
OK! I'ts time to take a stand. I'm a veteran and I was trained to kill! Could'nt wear my uniform for over 40 years, not because I could'nt fit into it any more, but, now, I will be proud to wear it, because, now I'm not afraid to show I was and still a PATRIOT!
SO, I'f, somebody does not hear from me in a week or two, don't bother to try to catch it on the news. They will be too afraid to tell the truth! YAY,YAY JULY 4TH
Bush might as well have
There is nothing stopping Bush from offering a belated pardon as a final slap in the face just prior to leaving office.

You forgot something
In Democrats.com's email of 7-16 mobilizing for "a new phase in the movement for peace and justice... wherein we wear orange "to signify that we want Congress to START IMPEACHMENT and STOP THE WAR." Nowhere in your message do you acknowledge that three articles of impeachment against Cheney were filed last April by Dennis Kuchnich. Read on: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, July 06, 2007 CLEVELAND, OH – More than half of all Americans support bringing Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a poll released today. Articles of Impeachment were filed in April by Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, and it has 14 co-sponsors. According to the New Hampshire-based American Research Group, 54% of adults favor proceeding with impeachment proceedings against Cheney. Among Democrats, the support for impeachment is 76%, and among those who identified themselves as "Independents," the support is 51%. Even 17% of Republicans said they favor impeachment. The poll was based on 1,100 interviews among a random sample of adults nationwide July 3 – 5. Of the total sample, 933 interviews were completed with registered voters. When he introduced his bill (H.R. 333), Kucinich said, "The Vice President actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and Congress about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. He has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive us about the relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda. And he openly lied to the America people and has publicly threatened aggression against Iran." Kucinich also said at the time that he was acting in "response to the concerns of millions of Americans who have felt that the Vice President must be accountable for his false statements." The poll results appear to prove he was right. None of the other Democratic Presidential candidates has expressed support for Kucinich's bill. "It's not a happy day when most Americans believe that the Vice President of the United States lied, deceived, misled the American people and violated his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution -- not to mention the other actions and abuses that are beginning to attract Congressional attention," Kucinich said. "But," he added, "every elected official in this nation, especially the highest elected officials, must be held accountable for their actions; and impeachment is the Constitutional mechanism to hold the Vice President accountable and to protect our democracy." National polls have also shown an overwhelming support for Kucinich's other key positions: withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, a national health insurance plan that covers all Americans, the repeal of disastrous trade policies, specifically NAFTA, and the erosion of civil liberties enabled by the passage of the so-called Patriot Act.
Impeachment Evidence
Why has not Colin Powell testified in front of intelligence committees about how he was fooled on WMDs. Remember, when
Cheney went after Wilson, Colin looked at the hard data and realized the hoax. The analysts that massaged the data to
reflect a clear and present danger did so at whose request (get them on the carpet too). This should be a closed door
sworn testimony subject to perjury no matter how high it goes. You cannot jail a sitting executive, so impeachment will
be their only option if the evidence indicates lawbreaking. The level of intelligence briefing precludes public participation.
Colin Powell knew he was lying when he testified...
before the United Nations. He was not fooled as you claim. He will spend the rest of his life trying to clean up his mess as an enabler.

Heather Wilson - New Mexico - Ran on truth, justice and all that
Heather Wilson defeated her democratic opponent by falling back on her honor pledge from the Air Force Academy that she will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those among us who do. This was convincing enough to just enough voters that she won re-election in a very close race.
She now needs to be pressed hard on this issue with this administration! Write her office and tell her that you know she made this pledge and ask her to courageously stand up and demand answers, honesty, and respectability from this Administration that promised to raise the bar, not hide behind Clinton's dick (I realize he must have a huge dick, but come on, large enough to hide Cheney's crimes?).
Write her and tell her to demand that the executive branch provide open and honest testimony to congress on how our tax dollars are being spent, who has access to the executive branch, and address all the questions about potential illegal acts in the Valarie Plame outing as well as the US Attorney firings. Remind her that she voted to impeach Clinton for less and that she continues to promise to not tolerate those who lie.
While we all know this will do no good now, it will give her Democratic opponent a way to get a good laugh out of the crowd when she tries to say she does not tolerate people who lie in the next election. Think about it.
Help Dennis
July 26, 2007 The Honorable Dennis J. Kucinich Member of Congress Dear Dennis: No one in America admires you more than I and no one in America supports your leadership more than I. In that spirit I hope you will consider my suggestion very seriously. The most credible witness to prove Bush & Cheney are traitors is Secretary Paul O’Neill. It is shocking to me that you keep ignoring the official, public statements made by Paul O’Neill in his book and during the 60 Minute interview O’Neill had with Leslie Stahl. Because Bush declared to the NSC at its first two meetings in 2001, "It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying ‘Go find me a way to do this,’" says O’Neill. “There are memos. One of them marked, secret, says, ‘Plan for post-Saddam Iraq,’" adds Suskind, who says that they discussed an occupation of Iraq in January and February of 2001. I wonder why you never included this in H Res 333. I suggest you amend the bill to include this evidence of treason and have another press conference. TREASON Treason is a crime that undermines the offender’s government. It is an act of deliberate betrayal. Why isn’t treason clearly identified in your bill? That to me is another vivid mistake. The statements made recently by Chairman John Conyers surrounding the efforts by Cindy Sheehan, myself, and others to demand the Constitutional mandate for impeachment of traitors – are criminal acts. Aiding and abetting traitors is a crime. Obstruction of justice is a crime, and countermanding the check and balance system provided by the Constitution is a crime. If I was Chairman of the Subcommittee on Domestic Policy on Oversight and Government Reform I would now be forced to subpoena Chairman Conyers to testify about the following two statements he made. Conyers claims that there aren’t the votes to impeach. If the right witnesses were called and these witnesses were asked the proper questions, their answers would demand a unanimous vote to impeach. Conyers claimed he would begin the process if three more cosponsors signed H Res 333. On Monday, July 23, 2007, Conyers reneged on that commitment. Regardless of all the wonderful things Conyers has produced during the years, his recent actions must stand alone. Conyers has sabotaged the Constitutional process of checks and balances. It is your subcommittee that has jurisdiction on oversight and government reform. When you hold hearings for Conyers to explain his crazy decisions, let’s find out if the media wants to censor that story. Keep doing the right thing Dennis and America will elect you President. Regards, Steve
One of the reasons for the lackluster progress of the...
Kucinich bill is that the bill itself is lackluster. There is no pezazz. There is not much in it that inspires others to rush to join the movement.
His choices of challenge were so limited. He decided to write it that way...and the results are absolutely underwhelming at this time.
A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions.
Anne Hathaway: 1556-1623

Lacks something?
Bills before Congess lack that special energy? No pezazz? Which bills\laws\government documents have excitement? Most of them bring passion and discussion when we know about them.
The Declaration of Independence is pretty inspiring but not exciting...except those who signed it put their lives and families in danger.
Congress is not reality TV. Media silences the "impeachment movement" period so how can there be energy for it? Any public protest has to come from the bottom up so they can't ignore it. People at home question and make their lives miserable, etc.
Do you think we should hire a "media consultant" to make it more exciting and inspiring? I'm "inspired for impeachment" when I think about the cost of this government to my future well being and survival. Basic stuff like that!!
Got any ideas?
Inspired?
Should we hire a media consultant to "inspire the people for impeachment"? The media themselves won't do it. They silence us.
I'm inspired when I think about the financial and political cost to my future well being and survival. Basic stuff like that.
2 impeachment bills in the House as of Aug 8, 2007
As of August 8, 2007, 42 Democratic Representatives have signed on to cosponsor either H.Res. 333 to impeach Cheney and/or H.Res. 589 to impeach Gonzalez. That's progress! And we need to contact more Representatives and get them to climb on the band wagon. I have three proposals:
1. Organize a chapter of Democrats.com for Impeachment and get signatures on petitions to your Rep. Get this news covered in the media. About 45% of the Representatives who officially support impeachment proceedings come from districts where Democrats.com has organized chapters. That tells me that organization and action on the district level has a significant effect in educating the Representatives and influencing their votes.
2. Take heart that more and more Dem Reps ARE playing hardball on the issue. The second H.Res., # 589 was introduced on July 31 by 16 sponsors, led by Jan Inslee (D-WA-1). Instead of sending 589 to the House Judiciary Committee, the 16 sent it to the House Committee on Rules. They're asking the Rules Committee to advise the Judiciary Committee to investigate Alberto Gonzalez. In other words, these 16 are rebelling against the stalemate of Pelosi and Conyers, and telling them to open up the issues of impeachment. This is a new strategy and a hopeful one. I LIKE IT.
3. If the DNC calls or contacts you asking for money, tell the Democratic Party that you will give money (if you so chose) ONLY AFTER the Dems get impeachment of Bush and Cheney out onto the House floor for investigation and processing. Put your money where your mouth is.
Having 42 Reps on the record as in favor of impeachment of ANY of those 3 (Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez) constitutes real progress. They need our help during the next month to make that number 100 or more.
Need help in Milw: WI District 4
I'm organizing a chapter of Democrats.com here in Milwaukee to get our Rep, Gwen Moore, to cosponsor H.Res. 333 (impeach Cheney) and/or H.Res. 589 (impeach Gonzalez). Anyone out there willing to work on gathering signatures or blogging or contacting newspapers? I'm assuming that as this impeachment ball gets rolling and the Dems figure out how to handle Pelosi and Conyers, that Bush is next on the list. Dear Demos: Impeachment of Bush and/or Cheney is NOT going to happen. If one or the other is impeached, the Senate will not confirm it. If the Senate did, it would only bring a replacement every bit as horrid as the incumbent, but with an advantage going into the 2008 elections - provided they will even occur. More importantly, if impeachment was voted on by the House, what can prevent Herr Bush from simply dissolving Congress, suspending Constitutional law and elections, calling for round-up of all dissenters into Halliburton-built detention camps, under his assumption of command as provided via a self-declared emergency state of affairs under quasi-legal powers he imposed via his May 9th Executive directive and Homeland Security directive? Wake up, folks! He doesn't even have to declare martial law! He HAS the power. You're so busy building steam behind an impeachemnt effort that will invariably go bust, when the real danger is that he has conferred upon himself dictatorial powers he can use at will - and no one is doing a damned thing about it! Priorities, people! Remove the GREATEST danger to consititutional law first - then move on to impeachment, confident that the bastard can't simply suspend the process. - Will
Forget Impeachment
Democrats: You are wasting your time calling for impeachment. Won't happen. Suggestions: 1. Petition Congress to rescind Bush's May 9th Emergency Powers directive; 2. DEMAND fair elections with verifiable paper ballot trails; 3. Support ONLY those candidates willing to support verifiable elections. Support revolutionary Democrats willing to aggressivley restore American democracy; 4. Demand independent, impartial, election reporting and verification - rather than corporate-controlled mainstream media coverage using the national networks' Voter News Service; 5. Mount a MASSIVE voter registration campaign backed by voter turnout movement. The Neo-Cons cannot win power in a true democracy. What we have witnessed is a time-warp deja vu restoration of 1930s Nazi Germany, with 9-11 being the U.S. equivalent of the Reichstag fire. The absolute priority is to prevent Bush's assumption of absolute power. DEMAND that Congress rescind Bush's May 9th directive. Prevent the 4th Reich. Best wishes, Will
QUESTION?
Should Impeachment EVER be used, or should we just get rid of it?
Asked another way: What do you have to do to be Impeached?
-It seems to me that the reckless endangerment of our National Treasure and Military rises to the level of a MISDEMEANOR. No?
"Change of Face" Law in America
Change of Face Lawhttp://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/13/washington/13cnd-rove.html?ex=1344657600&en=f952b107bffaa98f&ei=5089&partner=rssyahoo&emc=rss "Change of face" and resigning is no cure for wiping of illegal activities while serving in our government. Like Cheney and Rumsfeld, Rove could be back in government running for public office, etc. We need a law to protect the people from political crooks and tyrants. No Presidential pardons. No getting back into the government when they think we have forgotten their past. The media gives them a new face. I don't think Presidential pardons are allowed for crimes against the people while serving in public office. Stealing, treason, lies for war, genocide, torture, etc. are high crimes and misdemeanors are they not? The media and Congress allowed crooks (pardoned illegally by President Ford) back into our government when they knew about the crimes and treason they committed in the past. Past and present criminals...Rice, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Libby, Ken Lay (not dead), Powell, Wolfovich, Negroponte, Gonzales, Rove, Cheney, Bush have all committed serious crimes against the America people and the world. Impeachment and jail would be fair justice. Leaving public office with their plunder is not justice. Noriega (a Bush friend) committed serious crimes against his people yet he is being sent to France? What? Guess...he too will keep his tan and healthy look on that British off-shore island where all the Bush gang retire. Dust off Noriega and OJ when a diversion is needed away from government problems eh? What! A young female star having a baby or going to jail? Who do they (media, Congress and President) think they are kidding? Ponzi schemes are a Bush family MO. That's how they run our country?
The letter of the law and loss of political power:
As to worries about Bush granting himself certain powers:
-Who cares? This is a passion play.
Cut the BS and get down to solving the nation's problems
I would like to see Bush, Cheney and his crew of neo-cons in the 9th circle of hell but your political posturing for impeachment is nothing but fiddling while the country burns. Put some effort into solving the real problems we face. If you don't know what they here here are a few:
1. Financial Meltdown
2. looming oil/fuel crisis
3. climate change
4. idiotic immigration laws
5. decaying infrastructure
6. looming food and top soil crisis being brought about by subsidizing marginal ethanol
7. brain dead, octogenarian congress
he best thing that can happen is for every Senator and Congressman to loose the next election regardless of party.
First things first Frank, you are full of criticism against...
unidentified parties when you use YOU to point your finger at those who have failed the country. Are you talking about the DLC, the DNC, or the members of this website? Pretty hard to tell, and pretty obvious that as an independent of 38 minutes membership, you haven't taken the time to read our archives.
As an independent, you keep your hands clean, and are pretty uninvolved in the work that has been accomplished on this site over the past 7 years. As an independent, you are not part of the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party which has been attempting to kick the Repugnants out and also winnow out our DINOS from all states in the House and the Senate.
That all has to be done before our leadership start to listen to us.
Your list is fine. We have acres of lists of things that need to be attended to, most of your items are on those older lists. The most important item is dumping the deadwood from each state. That can only be done by citizens of those states.
In any case, try to identify the troubles and problems for us. Don't just continue to yap away in a generic sense. That is not helpful at all.

AGREE!!
After we impeach Bush, lets impeach the 77 senators who voted for the 2002 act "To authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq." Oooo boy, especially Clinton, Kerry, Edwards, and Daschle. Hey wait a minute arent Clinton and Edwards both running for Democratic presidential candidacy. Hey if one of the two get voted into office, Democrat have another 4 years to complain about the war in Iraq because they both put us there.
ProBush...I have to laugh at your post...
here are the reasons why:
1. You are a Repugnant and clearly out of your territory.
2. You have hit a site where the bulk of the members are fairly intelligent and informed. Additionally, many of us are Vets--something most of you chickenhawks, including Bush and Cheney know nothing about. When America called upon them, they ran away as far as they could go from Uncle Sam's call.
3. Not only are you a Repugnant, you are a ripe old age of qualifying for the draft--the next step for George to crank up. You'll get to spend some quality time in EXOTIC places like Baghdad and Tehran.
The senators you mentioned did not vote for the war...what they voted for was another of Bush's extrodinary lies: He told the Congress that he would work with the UN until the problem with Iraq proved insoluable. At that time, presidents were thought to tell the truth to the Congress, the American people, and the people around the world. Bush immediately attacked a country that had neither harmed us nor had any means to do so.
bgeing a Right Winger, probably won't understand the distinction. We adults however, do.
So my little friend, go find another playpen to crap in

So in effect you are saying
So in effect you are saying the next time a republican president tells the American people and the congress that another country has WMDs and plans to use them against us we should know better than to believe him or her?
As far as what you call complaining about the war, I think that complaining is way too mild a word for what we feel about all the young people who have died in Iraq and the thousands who have been maimed for life for the bush/chaney OIL wars and to let the shrub be a "war president".
