BP's massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will have disastrous consequences for the Gulf environment and millions of people who depend upon it.
But under current law, BP must pay only $75 million in economic damages, while damages from this spill could reach $14 billion, if not much more.
There must be no taxpayer bailout for BP. And there must be no consumer bailout through increased taxes on oil or gasoline, as proposed by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (S 3309).
As the fourth largest corporation in the world, BP must be forced to pay every last penny of damages out of its enormous profits. And every corporation in the world must learn they are fully responsible for all the damage they cause to the environment and people.
Congress is considering the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act of 2010 (HR 5214 / S 3305 - S 3306). Incredibly, Sen. Murkowski is single-handedly blocking the bill to protect BP and the other enormous oil companies.
Urge your Representatives to co-sponsor the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act of 2010.
