My Vote for Obama is Just the Start
I am voting for Barack Obama because we share a common faith in peace, justice, humanity, and social change.
Our faith was profoundly tested during 12 years of Reagan-Bush and 8 more of Bush-Cheney. America has fallen from the leader among nations to the pariah. Our economy is collapsing, our savings are vanishing, and our planet is in peril. Yet the powerful people and institutions who created this disaster continue to rule us - and rob us blind.
Barack Obama is an extraordinary gift to America and the world. Through compassion, intelligence, and hard work, he has overcome the enormous obstacles of race and lack of wealth. He is an inspiration to us all.
In just two years, he has built a movement unlike any in history. Thanks to his own family history, he has been able to bridge the divides of race and class to build the most diverse coalition in history. But we are not just temporary political allies - we are becoming one enormous family. And by focusing on the enormous problems we face as a people, he has given us Hope.
I am inspired by Obama's gifts of intelligence, compassion, optimism, and courage. I love his beautiful family, and the extended family he has helped us create. I want him to win, and much more importantly, for all of us to succeed. And I know it will be a struggle, every hour of every day.
We are in the fight of our lives, and of our childrens' lives. My vote is just the start of my commitment to that fight.

I marched and was very active in the anti war movement of the sixties and seventies. I did it for my children. I'm active again in the Obama campaign for my grandchildren. When will the madness ever cease!!!???

Why I'm Voting for Obama
I have watched far to many people in this area get laid off from manufacturing jobs. I have seen too few people benefit from any of the Republicans tax cut schemes for the past 20 years.
I have heard too many small town people express fear and hatred at the thought of a Democratic Party lead government. Yet, what has the Republican Party done for them? The GOP has not increased their standard of living, they have not kept them safe, they have not improved their schools or roads.
I'm voting for Obama so that someone can actually do something for the middle class, not just pretend that they are.

After reading most of these posts, I must say, Mr. Obama CAN NOT do it all alone. It is going to take every citizen of the USA to help him and give and give and give. This time instead of take and take, like Repubs, it will our giving to help undo all these years. If it is time, volunteering, paying taxes, helping the poor, helping our own families or his just asking for help, IT IS GOING TO TAKE ALL OF US SO WE CAN SHOW THE WORLD WHAT WE ARE REALLY MADE OF!

Why I'm voting for Obama
I'm very concerned about the direction our country has been going and I know if anyone can help get our country back on track again it is Obama.
He is an intellectual visionary and has the best plan for our country as a whole. He has also surrounded himself with very smart people who can help him actually get the job done. He has inspired millions of people...like I have never seen inspiration in my lifetime.
I've always voted, but I was never interested in politics, but this year I have been an active volunteer and supporter of Barack Obama.

Why I Voted for Obama early
Simple, I have a chronic lung illness, my two A student Grads can't afford to further their education without a scholarship. They have been recognized by the State, yet they can't afford an education opportunity, with grades like this, that I myself recieved. I have 4 trades, that are needed right now and have worked myself in minimum wage or a little above on two jobs to support a family, and now that I'm broken and in need of healthcare, I just may die, under another four years of the BUSH IT. I won't pass this country, back into the same hands, that choked the life, out of living daily. Because I'm tired of coming up short at dinner time. Because I require a special diet of veggies, that I have to import, when there is plenty of land in vacant unused lots, in our communities that could feed the homeless, and teach our children agricultural responsibility and charity at the same time.
But most important:
Because I promised my African American disenfranchised in 2000, ar$e that, before I go to my grave to rot, I will never be silenced on facism and predjudice.
I am not falling, nor have I ever fell for the line of "Get over it", "that was years ago" "There is NO racism anymore" "Your over qualified" and a host of other Bush It, that was being brainwashed into our youth. Open eyes and God fearing hearts full of HOPE, are what drive me and my family.
I vote for a future better than the one I inherited, or was passed on to me.

Why I'm voting for Obama?
I'm voting for Obama because Hillary Clinton wasn't nominated and I am scared half to death of McCain and Palin. I think Obama is a good man and will make a good president but, to be perfectly honest, he wasn't my first choice.

I am voting for America as part of the world community, when I voted for Obama, because when he wins despotism loses. When Obama wins we will start removing the despotic corporate lobbies, corporate favoritism, and corporate domination in our government. No more Haliburton and Exon dictating policy. I hope there will be a minimum wage for all products produced that the U.S. consumes so that we can not buy a DVD player, a t-shirt, or shoes or anything else that isn't made by a person earning a minimum wage and end the race to the bottom of the wage market that Corporate America is forcing upon the workers of the world. We won't be able to import or resale items that do not show clear evidence and are inspected to show workers make the same minimum wage workers in the U.S. have.
That global minimum wage would drive jobs back to the U.S. and create new consumers where corporations use off shore labor. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
When did we go wrong? When did these words stop having meaning to ALL MEN & WOMEN & CHILDREN & OLD PEOPLE, of ANY RACE, CREED, or RELIGION, from ANY COUNTRY of the WORLD, not just a few rich people, who today are McSame-bush supporters...?
Obama to me is hope that ends this inequity, this kind of crime against humanity economically, as well as ending the Military Industrial Complex's control over our government, selling death as the world's largest arms dealer, and end our wars and bring our troops home from all foreign bases.
One world doesn't mean we run the world and abuse and kill them when they don't do what we want. It means we are and equal part of the world and we treat each other with respect.

Obama has an amazing ability to remove all the seeming differences and find what is held in common. This is where our strength lies, as a country, as a world. He applies this to ideas, to concepts, to people. It is the only way we shall survive and thrive.

Why I voted for Obama
I am a product of fifties parents of doo wop and 60's spirit of rebellion of unjustice, and progressive intelligencia and common sense 70s. A protector of the planet and our elderly and children. If your want to talk about pro life to me, you need to start there. I voted for Obama and Biden for the justice not seen in the last 30 yers. I know Joe Biden is NO punk. He will deal with law breakers of ALL ethnic creed fairly. I also voted for Obama because for the last thirty years, the United States has sold out every OIL technology and there is NO sustainability for the products, unless we continue to poison the planet on OUR children. How many rises in chronic illness must occur, before we get OFF the Dino fuels?
I am the leader, that my family and community deserves. I am ready to make those changes, long ago forgotten. To put them in place for a cleaner, safer, smarter country, that walks the walk of Jesus, not just talks the talk. That includes caring for the seniors who worked all their lives building and protecting this country, and the children who stand to inherit it from us in the next 30 years. It is not all about getting the deficit down and control spending, in this year or two to come, it is to STABILIZE THE DESTRUCTION ON THIS COUNTRY, that George and Republican Congress and Senate have ignored the last 12 years. The one mistake that the Republicans elite didn't bargain on was that American families cry together. We sit down at the table and discuss, what cuts and sacrifices in budget, we will have to make. Well, Bush has robbed three generations of wealth and given it to his wealthy, conniving, Wall Street business and banking buddies. We have to cut the pie, and trip the crust, carefully to ensure EVERYBODY eats in America.
They would have known how we feel, if they didn't send their own children to private schools and raised them so Out of Touch with society. Their loss, Democrats and Independents gain next.
In short, I voted for Obama because health wise, I would literally die, if something is not done about this for profit healthcare system. I can't leave my 5 non-covered children alone in this world. The safety nets have been privatized and other people are calling my health and chronic desease care shots, without my permission mind you. for profit. Just like the sneak legislation of taxes. Well if your are demanding taxes, We the people demand Healthcare cost included in our tax base, to ensure proper care to our elderly and children. It is a damn shame, that after 18, there is no dental care for anyone, unless you divy up the parts of the body, the doctors will cover. Last time I checked, my ears, eyes, and teeth, came with the body. I have work to do, and if being active in the community developement for our future is all that is needed, then count me in!
And If I don't make it, you'll know me when you see me. I'll be the raggedy mouthed, native african and irish woman, that hasn't been able to afford a dentist in 20 years. Probably died from oral cancer, because prevention is the connection of sight between the dentist and the primary physician, that never the twain shall meet, in today's health system.

Why I'm voting for Obama
I marched against the Vietnam war, and I have opposed the Iraq war from the start. I have struggled to survive the Republican years of Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush. If we don't get a real Democrat into office soon, I fear for the survival of the country.
We need a Roosevelt, but it looks like we will have to settle for a Kennedy. When Chris Dodd dropped out of the race, I switched my support to John Edwards. With him gone, Obama is all that's left.
I wish the best for him and his administration. I wish the best for America. I will try to keep the pressure on to make him the best president he can be.

I'm voting for this candidate because 1. He is a Democrat, and 2. He promises to extend the model of the Harlem Children's Zone into 20 more cities, and I'd like to work with minority kids again in an effective school in one of those. 3. We need to start caring about each other again in this country, and he and his family can model this for us. 4. The man can read and write and speak, and he has inspired young folks to care about politics again. It's been amazing. 5. He is the natural extension of Dr King's dream.

The reasons are almost too many. His values are fundamental and duplicate mine: restoring the Constitution, expanding social services to create a level playing field, recognizing the importance of public education, restoring our position in the world from bullying to co-operating with all freedom-loving nations, etc. etc. He will undoubtedly be more centrist than I would like, but on the other hand he is a realist who knows better than to try to ram through programs that will receive too much resistance, e.g., single-payer health care.
There is no question that Obama the politician is far superior to McCain. But he is uncommon by any standard. Jonathan Alter noted that, unlike FDR, Obama has a first-class temperament AND a first-class intelligence. I have been watching his campaign with fascination for over a year and can say he is the most impressive candidate I have seen in 40 years of voting, and I would venture to say he will rival FDR himself, and perhaps also Lincoln, whose literary acumen he equals.
Finally, as the first serious biracial candidate this country has been offered, he will epitomize a nation that has grown beyond the white/European model of governance to embrace a postcolonial, internationalist and rainbow-hued world. It's become obvious that world will rise to welcome him as our president.

Anyway, I have been getting to know Barack Obama and his family since the Dem National Convention and I am totally inspired by him. I believe that the President is given too much credit, that is to say, that the President is not as powerful as made out to be. That being said, the reason I voted Obama, is because he is creating a wave of change that is far more powerful that any President.
He is motivating people, inspiring those who have already sat on the sidelines of the political process. Generations ago, when the people were unhappy about the powers that be, they took the streets just like in the sixties, and for a while it seemed that we had lost that. We had become generation x-nay. A generation that loved to complain but never got up to do anything about it. That seems to be changing and that to me is exciting.
I am voting for change, whether or not Obama brings it, I believe he is inspiring the PEOPLE to create the change.

I plan to start a petition campaign immediately after Obama's inauguration. Look for mine or start your own. There must be a nationwide standard for national elections and any and all election law violations, especially voter supression, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Put George W. Bush on trial for war crimes including deliberate lies to start an unnecessary war with Iraq, illegally eavesdropping on American citizens, authorizing torture, etc.
Put Alberto Gonzales on trial for illegally terminating Democrat lawyers because they would not back the Republican Party and their illegal tactics.
Put other criminals, i.e. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Tom DeLay, Nancy Pelosi, Paul Wolfowitz, Condoleeza Rice, Exxon/Mobil, Halliburton, et al., on trial for criminal activities against the American People and the United States of America.
Why should these people/organizations walk away scott free after conspiring to ruin this country? They should all face a jury of their peers and face the consequences!

Social Worker who has seen too much
As a social Worker I have seen too much suffering,these past 8 years, particularlly with Seniors who are loosing their homes in order to pay for medications. I had one senior offer to commit suicide so that his wife would be able to buy the prescriptions she needed to survive. If I heard it ONCE,I heard it a Million times "We scrimpt and saved to build funds for retirement, we thought we were going to be alright, but everything went up too far, too fast". For this they will be offered a college education, technical training or,if they are successful, a job in the field they have been working in.
*Reduce the national debt.
*Bring all political factions to the table & do it with public visibility so citizens can support what proposed program they think will work.
*Deal harshly with the hate crimes against the gay & lesbian community (trans-gender, etc.. included)
*Establish programs that reward equal pay for women & minorities.
*Return our constitutional rights immediately.
*Find new & do-able solutions for national security.
*Make peace with Cuba.
*Illustrate how unproductive & unamerican racism is.

Barack Obama is a transformational leader, and very inspiring. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to vote for him! His early opposition to the tragic war in Iraq was the single most important issue for me!
I'm becoming increasingly upset over all the references to John McCain being a "genuine American hero". POW's endure abuse and deprivations I can't imagine; but those who survive, are survivors. As an American citizen I want our government to do right by all veterans, including POW's, but I know of nothing about being a POW that confers "genuine American hero" status on an individual. The phrase is applied so readily and indiscriminately that it means very little to me. I certainly would take no comfort whatsoever in the fact that John McCain was a POW were he to somehow unfortunately become our next President.
Do I have a choice?
The alternative (to state the obvious, we only have a choice between 2 candidates in this "democracy") is so frightening and horrible, I HAVE to vote for Obama. He's not a progressive (the American people would never elect one and the Democratic Party is way too middle of the road corporate to zealously back progressives) and he voted for the FISA Amendment; he's flip-flopped on several issues, probably to gain votes. So I really don't know what we're going to get if Obama's elected. But as I implied, a McPain-Palin reign would definitely be a nightmare.
Why I'm Voting for Obama
There's an old adage which states that, if you have a heart, you'll be a Democrat, and if you have a brain, you'll be a Republican. 1960 was the first Presidential election where I was old enough to vote, and I had always considered myself an Independent. Luckily I was able to vote for a candidate who had both a heart and a brain. John F. Kennedy. Plus, he was an great inspiration to Americans.
Since then, we've seldom had a candidate that had both a heart and a brain. In fact, the past eight years we've had a President who has neither a heart nor a brain. But luckily for America in 2008, we have another candidate who has a heart, a brain, is an inspiration to Americans and who will restore our standing throughout the world. That man is Barack Obama.
Why Barack?
I'm voting for Barack Obama because I want somebody up front that will act the way I want to act. I want somebody driving the bus that wants to lead us where I want to go. I want this nation to be for the people & by the people. I want this nation to work to make people's lives better. That's why I'm voting for Barack. I believe he will guide us, as a nation, to treat others the way we want to be treated.
