Mel Watt Calls Miers No-show the "Last Straw"
Christy Hardin Smith liveblogged the House Judiciary Committee hearing to which Harriet Miers flipped the bird. Here's her summary of Rep. Mel Watt's remarks:
Miers not showing up for hearing today is the last straw. During the impeachment proceedings, decided to apply the same standards to Dems and Republicans alike, because we have a Constitutional responsibility to do so. The President has abused his presumptive privilege for executive discussions — his privilege does not extend nearly as far as he says it extends. Watt goes on to discuss all of the disrepect of the rule of law issues of the Bush Administration. I cannot accept the standards that prevailed the last six years of oversight — we have a responsibility to provide oversight, and the President is sticking his thumb in the eye of Congress.
Rep. Watt - aren't all of the "disrepect of the rule of law issues" grounds for impeachment?
Interestingly, Rep. Chris Cannon (R) was outraged at Rep. Watt's outrage and wanted Watt's remarks stricken from the record:
Cannon now saying that the remarks are unparliamentary. Watt yields back balance of time — American public knows that we are dealing with an imperial President who feels that he is above the law. Cannon again says that these are unparliamentary words and that Watt has gone beyond the rules of decorum for the House — personal criticism is out of order.
Cannon's motion to strike was defeated 7-5.

Meirs or Articles of Impeachment
That should be the choice given to Bush. If the democrats can't stand up to a lame duck president with an approval rating hovering around 11%, how do they expect America to believe they can handle terrorism?
The charge being considered in the Meirs contempt...
is INHERENT CONTEMPT. Use this term to google up a really good selection of explanations about a charge that was last used in 1934, holds the contempt charge in the congress with NO recourse to the courts, and would entail the violator being held in custody while the trial would be held in the Congress.
As Lootie so eloquently stated, "contempt or impeachment."

It's time to start slapping them around.....
It's time to start slapping them (Thugs)around like they have done to the Dem's for the past 6 years. Time to KICK ASS! Grinch thanks for looking this up. I'm going to call Pelosi again today and Reid's office too and tell them these people need to be charged and thown in jail until they are willing to talk. We can't allow OUR democracy to be hijacked by these Thugs. If we do, where will we be when there is no rule of law except for the working class? I don't know about all of you but I don't intend on being a slave to any Thug, and that is where we are headed if Bush involks Martial Law and I wouldn't put it past him for on moment. The man is a mentally deranged and so are Cheney and Rove, the puppetiers behind the puppet.
Meirs has now been given to the 17th to decide to show...
or face contempt charges. Another advantage of the inherent contempt charge is that there is no possibility of a Bush pardon. The Executive is excluded completely from this action.
The rules for this charge require a minimum of 72 hours notice before initiating the arrest portion of the action.
Harriet is likely to have a very disquieting period to carefully think about what is coming down.
Penalties are not very substantial: one year in jail and a $1000 fine.

Now We'll See Whether Her Allegiance
Now we'll see whether her allegiance is greater to the rule of law, or to Bush. Wagers?
(Not literally speaking, of course...:) )
AGREE WITH BREN5035, TIME TO KICK ASS
You would think that the democrats we put in power this last time, would have the idea why we elected them.I believe they need a reminder. Phone calls every day to all our congressmen and most important Pelosi and Reid. Yes,most of us are tired of hearing the Repubs calling us losers and and how we don't stick together' We will come together and support a winner for our country and that beats out supporting the worst president ever.
This time in my life, i can not be kicking ass physically but i have a lot of heart and this is one fight with the help of alot of serious democrats who will get rid of the most , negative administration ever!!!!!!!! njsbengals
