Activists March in DC to End the War and Impeach Bush - And Corporate Media Lies
On the 4th anniversary of Bush's criminal invasion of Iraq, tens of thousands of boisterous anti-war and pro-impeachment activists marched to the Pentagon on a cold, overcast day.
David Swanson filed this report from the march:
A huge and colorful crowd gathered at the Vietnam Memorial and marched over the Memorial Bridge, led by Iraq Veterans Against the War.
There was a tiny crowd of 100 pro-war counter-protesters who held signs and shouted as we passed, but they did not assault Cindy Sheehan as some bloggers had threatened.
The marchers gathered for a huge rally in a parking lot across from the Pentagon, welcomed by "War, what is it good for - absolutely nothing!" Speakers are demanding an end to the war and Bush's impeachment. About 30 members of Iraq Veterans Against the War are on stage now, with Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson, former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, and former Rep. Cynthia McKinney waiting to speak. I may speak too - I don't know yet.
There are tons of media here, both indy and corporate media. What they will do with the story, I don't know.
So how did the Corporate Media report the event? How is this for bullshit from the front page of CNN:
Hundreds of anti-war protesters and supporters of the U.S. policy in Iraq are in Washington for rallies, days before the war enters its fifth year. Those on one side armed themselves with signs saying "U.S. Out of Iraq Now" and "Illegal Combat" while those on the other bore banners with "Peace Through Strength" and "al Qaeda Appeasers On Parade."
Ant-war marchers outnumbered pro-war counter-protesters by several hundred to one, but CNN wants you to think they turned out in equal numbers.
Swanson just phoned in this update:
The crowd is chanting "impeach! impeach! impeach!" led by civil rights attorney Mara Verheyden-Hilliard. Cindy Sheehan also demanded impeachment in her speech.
I see TV cameras from C-Span and Al-Jazeera, along with lots of other media.
Some guys dressed in black are trying to get themselves arrested. That will no doubt become the headline story in the corporate media - even though tens of thousands of us ignored harassment by the pro-war "Eagles" in a disciplined, non-violent march.

the moronarch must cease
WARSHINGTON, DC - The long national nightmare is coming to an end. There are still two more years of this lying, cheating, stealing, torturing, killing MORONARCHY, but from now on, there will be accountability. Fed up with the corruption, the horribly failed illegal immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq, the greed, the scandal, the bribery, the hypocrisy and the complete distortion of reality, Americans across the country decided enough was enough. The House of Representatives is now in Democratic control. The Senate (as soon as Senator Macaca pulls his head out of his ass) will also be controlled by the human race again. And, as if that weren't enough of a corker, RUMMY cut-and-ran ! It took six loooooooooooooooong years, eight trillion dollars we don't have, and the deaths of six hundred fifty thousand innocent people, but it has finally happened. Since President MORON only gave us two choices and one was raising taxes -- which no one wants -- the message from the ballot box could not have been more clear: America is pro-terra'ist!
War in Iraq
Everyone who is against the war in Iraq is ignoring the facts. If we, the U.S., pull out of Iraq, the war will move from there to here. Is that what we want? To have to protect ourselves on our own land? That's not what I want, I don't like the war but see it as a necessary evil. We should continue to fight this war until there is a clear and decisive winner. This isn't like Vietnam, its worse, much, much worse. We know that the Muslims want to kill the infidels, that's anyone who isn't Muslim. Do you really think they are going to quit if we leave? I understand that people are scared and we should be, this isn't easy and people will continue to die, but they are dying for the same cause that started this country: freedom. It's noble and pure and we're trying to give it to other people in this world. Yes, there might be other smaller reasons that we are there, but don't ever forget the main one. I don't like George Bush and a lot of the other things he has done while in office, but who of your candidates would have done better? The answer is none, because most of them supported the war and those who didn't were ignoring the truth. I know that this e-mail probably will only get read by 1 or 2 people and get erased but I am so sick and tired of hearing your propaganda on T.V. making it seem that nothing good is happening. You are worse liars than George Bush!!
