I don't know about you, but I've had it with "BlueDog" Democrats.
They claim to be "fiscal conservatives," but they voted for George Bush's trillion-dollar tax cuts for the rich, which turned President Clinton's $6 trillion projected surplus into Bush's $5 trillion added debt.
They voted for Bush's trillion-dollar invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and spend billions more every month getting our soldiers killed to protect dictators.
And now they're blocking healthcare reform that would save billions for taxpayers and patients.
We need to run progressive challengers against them in Democratic primaries. Help us get started with small contributions to three great candidates:

The BlueDogs aren't just bad on taxes, wars and healthcare. They want to outlaw abortions. They support torture and warrantless wiretapping. They oppose every plan to reduce global warming.
They're not "conservatives" - they're tools of big business, secret government, and the religious right.
What can we do? Beat them in Democratic primaries.
In 2008, Donna Edwards (MD-4) beat Al Wynn and is now a rising progressive star in Congress. In 2006, Ned Lamont beat Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary and would have won the general if Lieberman hadn't lied about supporting healthcare reform.
When we have great progressive candidates, we can win!

We're thrilled to have three great progressives in primaries:
* CA36 (Los Angeles): Marcy Winograd is re-challenging BlueDog Jane Harman. Marcy is a dynamic leader of the peace and justice movement. In 2006, Marcy got 38% on a shoestring. This time, she already has great TV ads.
* GA12 (Savannah/Augusta): Last week, Regina Thomas decided to re-challenge BlueDog John Barrow. Barrow won in 2008 by promising to support Barack Obama, who made powerful radio ads for Barrow. But Barrow betrayed Obama in Congress and Georgia voters are flocking to Regina's campaign.
* NY-Senate: When Hillary Clinton left the Senate, Gov. Paterson chose little-known Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, a centrist from upstate NY, to replace her. Jonathan Tasini is a brilliant leader who has devoted his life to progressive causes and would truly change the Senate.
Please support Marcy, Regina, and Jonathan here:

We'd like to support primary challengers against every BlueDog in the House and Senate, but we can't find candidates. If you can recommend a good candidate to beat a BlueDog, please tell us now by posting a comment. Time is running short!
http://democrats.com/lets-beat-the-bluedogs
We especially want to challenge Senator Blanche Lincoln, who is working night and day to kill the public option. She might even join the Republican filibuster to block ANY Senate debate or vote. That would devastate 473,000 Arkansans who would get healthcare under the House bill. She's betraying her own voters - and the entire nation.
So we're looking for a great candidate to run against her. Help us find one by joining our new Facebook group and posting your suggestions:

Thanks for all you do!

Beat Blue Dog Allan Boyd
Check out Al Lawson, currently in the Florida Senate.
http://www.allawsonforcongress.com/
He's running hard against Boyd and would be far better.
thanks but
is Lawson progressive or just less bad?
Kirsten Gillibrand
You're making a mistake by going after Sen. Gillibrand. She's not a Blue Dog, there are WAY worse Democrats in the Senate, and I have been pleasantly surprised by her actions thus far. Save your money to use on the REAL troublemakers!
Unless these progressives
Unless these progressives are progressive enough to state that they are willing to work for citizen funded elections I cannot donate.
Al Lawson vs Allen Boyd
Allen is a good DINO (Democrat in name only) and has never met a supplemental appropriation for DOD he didn't like. He is popular with the country folks in Leon county, but much less so in Tallahassee. Al has not shown much promise so far. His web page for example on health care merely attacks Allen for voting against the present very bad bill. Allen has a good case in voting against this specific bill, but Al has not shown any good sense in how to combat. If Al is going to make any inroads he has to get a better grip on issues, but he is a charismatic speaker and could take the seat if he had enough good advice on how to woo the rednecks without losing the progressives.
I can empathize some with Allen joining the Blue Dogs in the sense that unless you are part of a group in the House, you have little clout. I agree that most of them are pretty far right, but for example I think Allen voted against the Stupak amendment. He argued at last week's town meeting correctly that it went "too far" since there is already a law that says that federal money can't be used for abortions. I personally think that it would be in the best interests of everyone if abortions were fully funded. However, the Democrats are wary of losing the Catholic vote in the next election if they look too abortion positive.
Is about time
Is about time we should all as a Democrat stand up to the blue dogs network and abolish them , enough is enough. I have pride in my party and we all should . Say no to the blue dogs say yes to true democrats .
Kirsten Gillibrand
I so agree you should NOT go after her. At first I was hesitate about her, not sure if she would truly represent us here in Ny. But she has so far done a great job
I live in rural NY on the other side of the state from her. Yet she has given support to many things unique here in New York, such as dairy farms.
She also has come out very supportive of a PUBLIC OPTION
Do not target her...she surprised us all here in the state...with her progressive views and stands.
Stew Pac
Maybe this is already the way things are designed but I suggest that there be a promotion or focus on a few democratic platform issues where legislators are standing in the way of fulfillment of one by the unfulfillment of another. Example: Trying to further anti-abortion policy in a health reform bill. We could call it the Stew Pac.
On the other hand if this is just a ploy to sound bi-partisan or gain media attention, how can we blame them? It must be determined on final vote, but it could be quite a hammer, but hard to lever.
Replacing BlueDog Stupak
You gotta take a look at our district in northern Michigan now represented by Bart Stupak. His amendment to the health reform bill would trash everything accomplished since Roe v. Wade. I'm a 62 year old white guy that has no business telling a woman that which only she, her family and doctor should do with her body. Stupak casts himself as a "moderate democrat." But his home is at "C" street and it shows. I'll do some soul searching and see if I can't recommend someone that's really good. I hope you'll do the same. Thank you.
we're definitely looking
for a challenger against Stupak. We even created a special website on Facebook:

please join and post any candidate suggestions there!
Blue Dog voted FOR Health Reform
My Representative, Mike Thompson (D-CA-1), voted FOR the House health care bill, despite his membership in the Blue Dog Coalition. I am not sure WHY he belongs to this group, as his voting record is fairly progressive. As mentioned, he voted and spoke for the health care bill and the public option, and voted against the Stupak Ammendment. He wants to end combat operations in Iraq, is pro choice, supports the civil rights of LGBT people and is a member of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus. He has a great voting record and gets things (like harbor dredging, as an example) needed in his district. One time when I bitched at him in an email (I am never actually rude), he personally called me on the phone. I had always thought if my Rep didn't know who I was, the people who read the emails did, and then I found out he reads his own email! I would not support an effort to unseat him. He is an excellent Representative. Is he merely the exception that proves the rule, or perhaps, do we need to know more about a Rep than whether or not s/he belongs to a particular bipartisan coalition?
Mike Thompson is
a unique case - like you, I don't know why he joined the BlueDogs.
Since he's pretty liberal, I doubt a progressive will challenge him in 2010.
An Independant/Proigessive who is interested in running for ofc
If you know you can spot a winner, someone who thoroughly understands the issues, is well read, an independent thinker, can challenge others and support his position, Shows strength and conviction, is able to relate to real people in the read world and he actually would like to run for office. One conversation w/ Mark you'll know what I'm talking about. He's a rare find. (My talent, being able to spot people like Mark). Myself, I am a Progressive and an activist. I know this guy has what it takes. If I had to compare him to someone in politics today, Mark strikes me to be most like Paul Krugman. He's highly intelligent, experienced, can communicate, is confident but not arrogant or insecure. Mark is a micro/macro thinker. He's well read and current.

Replace Blue Dogs & Moderates
Hi Gang!
So sorry I cannot send money - very low income disabled Vietnam Era Progressive Liberal. My AZ 5th Dist Dem., Harry Mitchell, voted correctly on both the Health Care Reform Bill and on the anti-choice amendment, but he has a conservative attitude on most fiscal issues. Perhaps we need to fnd a more progressive Dem. to help defeat Harry. Perhaps not. What is the opinion of Democrats.com of Harry Mitchell of AZ's 5th Congressional District Representative and his lack of progressive stances on way too many other issues?
good question!
you should ask your fellow members in AZ5 - here's how:
click on the "local" link on the left, scroll down to the CD section, and [post] a new forum thread.
I AM RUNNING AGAINST BLANCHE LINCOLN.
I hope you will join my campaign to win the U.S. Senate in Arkansas. Right now, I am the only Democrat challenging Blanche Lincoln. I didn't need to take a poll nor did I work the cameras, but rather worked with the patients at the Little Rock Free Clinic.
You know I am a citizen. I ran for Lt. Governor in 2006 but I do not have a PAC. I am looking for those to contribute to my campaign. But my goal is to offer primary voters a TRUE Democrat choice.
My top three issues are :
* FOR UNIVERSAL, SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE
* FOR THE EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT
* FOR EMPLOYMENT NON-DISCRIMINATION ACT

Replacing Blue Dogs in Georgia - a REAL challenge
Regina Thomas has announced her candidacy to run against 'Blue Dog' Democrat John Barrow in the House. She has served in the State Senate and has proven to be much more progressive in her past performance there. We will be launching her campaign next Thursday, December 10th with a fund-raiser. I will provide details to anyone interested, and will post her website soon.
that's fantastic
thanks!
South Dakota
South Dakota is a very red state, about 2/3 vs. 1/3, more or less.
Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is our only Representative. She is a Blue Dog. She voted against Health Care reform. She has completely lost her bearings. We watch her TV advs where she brags about voting "her South Dakota values" when she spoke against and voted against reform.
Unfortunately, her values are "South Dakota Republican values." She has become a quasi-Republican so that she can be reelected.
We need someone to run against her. She does not support President Obama. Many of us underdog Democrats are extremely disappointed with Stephanie and will no longer will vote for her. We will sit out the next representative election unless a qualified challenger defeats Stephanie.
It appears today that without a challenger to run against Stephanie, in 2010 her seat in the House will become a Republican seat.
Matt McGovern
was mentioned as a possible primary challenger. has he shown any interest?
Ken Calvert
While he is NOT a Blue Dog, but just a "dog", out here in California, Bill Hedrick can use all the Democratic support he can get, running in what historically is a very conservative area. Ken Calvert, the incumbent, seriously needs replacing, and Hedrick has great ideas and energy!
