Why Kos's Book is WrongOn 1/5/06 and 1/9/06 I called Kos a Koward for refusing to support impeachment. Now let me take on Kos about his much-hyped (by him) new book:
Actually, the hardest movement-building work is happening at ImpeachPAC and AfterDowningStreet.org, but Kos refuses to be part of it - or even to acknowledge it.
All of those wonderful principles are utterly and completely useless as long as George Bush and Dick Cheney are in the White House committing war crimes, spying on Americans, and otherwise shredding the Constitution. If progressives want to have any impact on anything, we must mobilize the 52% majority of Americans who want to impeach Bush. And we must do that NOW. We don't need lots of issue-pondering meetings to do this. We need to persuade one Member of the House of Representatives to introduce Articles of Impeachment, and then get every other Democrat to support those Articles. Hey Kos, it's time to get off the fence. Are you on the side of people and the Constitution - or Bush's criminal dictatorship?

IMPEACH AND THEN INCARCERATE
THE WORLD CANT WAIT 4 2 0 8
Dude, you are delusional
Impeaching won't work. Especially without the majority. Also, the poll says they support impeachment IF he lied/broke the law. But most people still don't think he did. Kos has it right in his book, I'm glad I ordered it. You guys here need to get off the impeachment wagon and start working on winning elections.

Should Bush be impeached?
Brian,
Should Bush be impeached?
Jim
We would win
if people like us ran the party. After nearly 14 years of suffering the Jellyfish Brigade, you'd think that the losers would get out of our way so that we could regain majority, but NO...there they are telling everyone to play nice when we're fighting against perhaps the most corrupt administration since Nixon.
Talk about S L O W....that's a very long time to have ignorant people in charge of our party.
He should be impeached...
...but we shouldn't impeach him unless we have clear, inrefutable evidence being broadcasted to the nation that he is guilty of a crime. Without support it can't happen, and if we don't win in '06, we have no chance anyway, and if we do win, he'll be so lame duck we don't even need to bother.

I understand your reference
I understand your reference to strategy (though I do not agree).
What I do not understand however is your reference to the Wellstone quote in the same breath that you espouse we run from our duties as citizens.
With respect to strategy, I would hope that you at least entertain the notion that: if activist Democrats do not speak of Republicans AS THEY ARE then nobody else will.
Cops do NOT require proof. Their work is the first link in a chain. Bush should be impeached. The words should be spoken.
I agree
We MUST begin impeachment procedures and stop trying to foretell their conclusion. It is extremely dangerous if we don't as any future president can feel he also has the right to do as he wishes because bush got away with it.
History MUST show that impeachment procedures were put into effect on this criminal in the White House or our whole system of impeachment is a joke.
Brian, impeachment IS possible!
Brian,
Impeachment IS possible. As Jim asked you, we all need to ask each other as American's, not republican or democrats, "did Bush do something wrong that fits the definition of a high crime?" The obvious answer is yes, yes and yes!
As Robert Kennedy said:
"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"
The only difference is that I don't dream about it, I try every day to make it happen and to help wake every American up from the Bush propaganda strangle-hold and this nightmare he has encapsulated us all in.
Wake up, Brian, stop whinning, and start taking action!
Drumlin: "I know you must think this is all very unfair. Maybe that's an understatement. What you don't know is I agree. I wish the world was a place where fair was the bottom line, where the kind of idealism you showed at the hearing was rewarded, not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, we don't live in that world."
Arroway: "Funny, I've always believed that the world is what we make of it."
I also believe the world is what WE make of it, not what a few heretics, charlatans and oppressive hypocrits insist on TRYING to make it.
IMPEACH BUSH NOW
"The first casualty when war comes is truth."
Impeachment is Impossible
First off, look at the Alito hearings. Democrats apparently won't fillibuster Alito. If they aren't going to take a stand on Alito, then they won't take a stand on impeachment.
The majority of Democrats are not going to vote for impeachment even if it is introduced because they feel it will make them look radical plus they don't think they have the votes anyway.
Democrats need to get out and take back Congress before you consider impeachment, and by the time they do, Bush will be out of the White House.
and why do you need to insult your fellow democrat (Kos) by calling him a Koward just because he disagrees with you?
Do us all a favor, and read
Do us all a favor, and read up on the impeachment process before you make statements like this. You obviously do not understand the difference between impeachment, and removal from office.
And btw, Kos is a Koward if he does not have the courage of his convictions.
It won't Happen
It won't happen. Bush will most likely not be impeached or removed from office before his term is up. I agree with Kos - Democrats should be trying to win seats and elections instead.
"Bush ain't that bad, and we
"Bush ain't that bad, and we should all parrot that so that the Nation at large is put at ease with respect to not too shabby Republicans"
...That is what the populace takes from Democrats who do not speak this simple truth: Bush should be impeached.
You keep missing the point,
You keep missing the point, and it's obvious that you have not taken the time to research previous posts on this blog.
Whether, or not, Dubya is ultimately removed from office, honest Democrats in Congress have the power (and obligation) to initiate impeachment proceedings. Running scared from a sworn oath to represent the wishes of the citizens, and putting self-interest before principle, defines a politician that needs replacing.
We are also working very hard to regain control of Congress in 2006 and 2008, and to cleanse our Party of Republican-lite DLC "centrists." Rebuilding the Democratic Party from the grassroots upwards is a goal of Howard Dean, the DNC, and the members of this blog.
These two issues are NOT mutually exclusive and, in fact, support each other. Whether, or not, you agree with Kos is immaterial. Whether, or not, you are willing to stand up for traditional American Democratic principles and values defines your level of comittment to returning this country to its Constitutional roots.
So, before you get your knickers in a twist about Kos, or what we Democrats should do, take a little time to re-evaluate your own motives and values.
Democrats don't try to win seats and elections?
I'm not sure that I understand your point.
Bush has no accomplishments. Bush has no public support. Bush has no international support. Bush is a lame duck. Not going after him is a show of weakness, not of intelligient politicking.
Bush has no accomplishments?
Bush has no accomplishments? He has mislead most Americans into believing his lies. Bush has no public support? The media sure is backing him and pimping him to the American public. Bush has no international support? I do believe Israel loves him because he is so easy to manipulate to help with their national security - don't think Sharon was being nice by giving the land back - I bet it was payment for taking Saddam out. Bush is a lame duck? Bush has always been a lame duck but Cheney knows how to make him quack. Going after Bush is a sign of weakness? No, weakness is NEVER calling attention to his lies and continuing to allow this country to be dragged down by W. Intelligent politicking? If most Americans even had any degree of intelligence, George would have NEVER been allowed to be installed in the White House. I guess you think all that Rove spin is intelligent and we are the party of no ideas (that Republicans will acknowledge). Try to learn to break the code on the Rovian spin - it isn't that hard.

Impeach him
The very fact that a criminal like George Bush is allowed to be president and assault all of our civil rights is so heinous and depressing that even if impeachment is not "possible" in your mind, we need to continue to push for it. We can multi-task. We are working to take back the Congress. However, if we don't fight dictatorship now, who knows what Bush will next require us to do. We could soon be sporting tattoos with peace symbols branding us as terrorist sympathizers. It's time to fight at every turn. Filibuster and impeach are my favorite words now. If we don't, Iran will be our next target and the draft will come back. If the army is stretched to the max now, Bush will have to reinstitute the draft or use press gangs. Remember by cutting the student loan program and fighting a realistic minimum wage, the military may be the only way for middle class and poor American youth to work. I would rather go down fighting than stand on the sidelines watching our democracy crumble.
Impeach now! Our worthless Senators failed to...
stand with the Black Caucus 5 years ago and have allowed Bush to get away with breaking all the laws that protect us...those laws that made us different from any other country.
Once started, the impeachment process will develop legs and will snowball. All we need is one Rep to stand and produce the initial paperwork.
There is still time to stop the Bush machine.
Impeachment NOW!
It doesn't matter whether we can win...
though we clearly can. What matters is that the Bush administration has broken the law on many occasions and impeachment should result. We have to stop being cowards and stand up for what is right. The people will always fall in behind a noble cause. Look how well Bush's lies about a noble cause work. We'd have the truth on our side. Impeachment is not a strategy, it's a duty.
If we don't call out
If we don't call out impeachment for Georgie's acts, I fear what the next President will have the power to do.

chatting about which cannon to fire. Which time was it that the republicans said "oh not that...thats too extreme". Was it the sciavo debacle.....oh I remember...it was when they impeached Clinton over a blow job. The repugs are on a scorched earth campaign. WE gotta do it all.
