Senator Obama: Just Say No to the Rich Republican Town Hall

7207 of 100000 people have signed this petition.
Background

Update 3:20 pm ET: we won!! Both Obama and McCain rejected the proposal because they don't want one TV network to control these events - they want them on all the networks and the Internet too :)

Rich Republicans, led by billionaire Mike Bloomberg and the corporate executives of ABC News, are demanding to host the first Presidential town hall meeting on Wall Street.

Why? It's obvious: they want to fill the hall with other rich Republicans and attack Barack Obama for supporting tax cuts for hard-working Americans instead of the rich.

Senator Obama, we urge you to Just Say No to the Rich Republican Town Hall - and instead to hold the first debate in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans in an event controlled by We the People, not the Corporate Media.

Petition

Dear Senator Obama,

Rich Republicans, led by billionaire Mike Bloomberg and the corporate executives of ABC/Disney, are demanding to host the first Presidential town hall meeting on Wall Street. We welcome all debates with John "McSame," but this particular request is outrageous for many reasons:

First, Mike Bloomberg is a Republican billionaire who gives to (and raises money for) Republicans.

Second, ABC News hosted the very worst Presidential debate (and there was a lot of competition!) on April 16. The first hour was devoted to outrageous and meaningless questions, including one attacking Obama's patriotism that was written by Sean Hannity! Later, Charlie Gibson attacked Obama for wanting to slightly increase the capital gains tax, which would take a few pennies out of Gibson's (and Bloomberg's) cavernous pockets.

Third, ABC hosted the outrageous 'Path to 9/11,' a rightwing Big Lie which falsely smeared President Clinton to shift blame away from George Bush.

Fourth, the proposed host is Diane Sawyer, who rose to fame and fortune defending Richard Nixon as Ron Ziegler's deputy during Watergate.

Finally, they want to hold the Town Hall on Wall Street so they can fill the hall with other super-rich Republicans and attack Obama for wanting to raise their taxes.

Senator Obama, we urge you to Just Say No to the Rich Republican Town Hall - and instead to hold the first debate in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans in an event controlled by We the People, not the Corporate Media.

First Town Hall debate with McCain

I would advocate that Democrats.com circulate a petition opposing the Wall Street location. Period. Senator Obama and John McCain can and should settle on a mutually agreeable setting. McCain started the Town Hall debate idea. Obama needs to cool it on the logistics of such a forum. He will rise to his greatness wherever the debates touch down. Don't wreck his chances with shrill prescriptions and in-your-face demands that are reactionary, such as this one.

Don't let the republicans

Don't let the republicans any where near our Dems until convention

Please, Barack...

Please, Barack, insist that Bill Moyers be the first to moderate the first Town Hall Meeting, preferably in New Orleans, West Virginia, Ohio or Pennsylvania. Don't cave in to their demands. It's their turn to show us some respect!

Debates or Town Halls

I support the idea of Bill Moyers and PBS being the one's to host any joint shows. Do not let the demagogues get you into their home ground, esp. not Fox or ABC!

Ask not what Bush can do to

Ask not what Bush can do to our country, but what we can do to stop him!
