ME, Portland: Occupation of Sen. Collin's Office to End the Occupation of Iraq

Give some time to end the occupation of Iraq

We must keep speaking out against the "Emergency Supplemental Bill" that will fund the Iraq occupation into 2009 ($172 billion more). Congress will be voting on the Bill this week.

We're keeping the pressure on. We sat in Sen. Susan Collins' office last Thursday in Portland from noon until 5:30 a.m. and we're going back this Wednesday, May 14th.

We need a lot of people to participate!

There are a number of ways you can be part of the action.

DC: Winter Soldier on the Hill – An Open Forum

Congress has heard from politicians, pundits, and generals, but not, up to this point, from the average boots-on-the-ground soldier.

On May 15th, Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) begin the process of righting this imbalance with Winter Soldier on the Hill. Nine members of IVAW will testify under oath before the CPC about rules of engagement, the killing and abuse of civilians, the use of drop weapons, and the true consequences of the "surge."

Winter Soldier on the Hill will allow the US Congress to be more fully informed about the situation in Iraq through soldiers’ eyewitness accounts of the on-going military occupation, while they debate (more than likely for the last time during the Bush-Cheney administration) the funding for U.S. military operations in Iraq.

MayDay ILWU Solidarity in Reno

As you may be aware, the Longshoremen are stopping work on the west coast on May 1st to protest the continued war in Iraq.
Since we were not aware of any "official" union actions in support of ILWU locally, the ad hoc May Day committee, made up of members of the Reno Antiwar Coalition, took it on ourselves to call for a solidarity demonstration outside the Federal Building at 10 a.m. on May 1st, demanding an end to the occupation.  Please join us there.  Any help you can provide is appreciated.

"IRAQ 2008"

Town Hall Meeting with featured speaker Cliff Kindy

An Evening of Education, Inspiration, and Discussion on Iraq and Ending the U.S. Occupation

* * *

Indiana Students Against War and Bloomington Peace Action Coalition are pleased to present an evening of education and inspiration with Cliff Kindy, and offer the public an opportunity to come together to speak out about the war and military occupation in Iraq.

Cliff Kindy, organic farmer, pacifist, and long-time member of Christian Peacemaker Teams, has recently returned from Iraq. He will open the Bloomington Town Hall Meeting by speaking about his experiences living and working with the people of Iraq, and give an eyewitness account of life under U.S. military occupation.

Following Mr. Kindy’s presentation, everyone will have an opportunity to speak out –

  • To ask questions,
  • To give voice to the majority of Hoosiers calling for an end to the war, and
