Impeachment Next Step: Judiciary Committee HEARINGS On H.Res. 333
Thanks to Dennis Kucinich, Tuesday was an historic day for impeachment!
As promised, Kucinich requested a floor vote on H.Res. 333, and as expected, BushDemocrat Leader Steny Hoyer moved to table the bill.
And then all hell broke loose as 165 Republicans voted with Kucinich and 85 brave Democrats to force a debate on impeachment and thereby embarass Nancy Pelosi.
To block that debate, Hoyer moved to send H.Res. 333 back to the Judiciary Committee, and that motion passed with the support of all but 5 Democrats (Kucinich, Bob Filner, Marcy Kaptur, Maxine Waters, and Ed Towns).
So what do we do next to move impeachment forward?
H.Res. 333 is now back in the hands of House Judiciary Committee chair John Conyers. And here's what he said:
"The Committee has a very busy agenda - over the next two weeks, we hope to pass a FISA bill, to vote on contempt of Congress citations, pass legislation on prisoner re-entry, court security and a variety of other very important items. We were surprised that the minority was so ready to move forward with consideration of a matter of such complexity as impeaching the Vice President. The Chairman will discuss today's vote with the Committee members but it would seem evident that the committee staff should continue to consider, as a preliminary matter, the many abuses of this Administration, including the Vice President."
Translation: bury it deep under the piles of paper on the Judiciary Committee staffers' desks, exactly as it was before Kucinich forced the floor vote. Shorter translation: kill it dead.
So how do we reverse Conyers' death sentence for H.Res. 333?
We must demand Judiciary Committee hearings for H.Res. 333 starting immediately after Thanksgiving.
How do we mobilize around this demand?
1. Call the House Judiciary Committee at 202-225-3951 and demand hearings on H.Res. 333.
2. Email all of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee:

3. If you live in the district of a House Judiciary Committee member, call their office and tell them you're a constituent and you want immediate hearings on H.Res. 333. Then join your Congressional District Impeachment Committee
http://democrats.com/cdic-find
and organize a HonkToImpeach rally
http://www.democrats.com/honktoimpeach
in front of your Representative's district office. Then keep up the pressure on your Representative every way you can, including letters to the editor, calls to local talk shows, and pointed questions at every community forum attended by your Representative.
4. A media campaign including op-ed articles on impeaching Cheney, letters-to-the-editor about the Kucinich resolution, and informational picketing in front of the offices of local media, particularly in Detroit for Conyers and NY City for Nadler.

The Debate Would be Great!
I'm all for the debate!

Debate?
Most hearings on the hill result in nada...nada thing happens as a result of them. Trial under RICO would be better.
Sorry dove but he's an idiot
Sorry dove but he's an idiot troll.
I saw some of the long winded false logic he used at his website and deemed his brain too tiny to be reached.
Later I think he was thrown overboard.
Words set in verse are not made more profound.........but.........UintoHiking seems to think so.
Good stuff, BUT
Besides this, I still think we should be calling Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer and bugging them. We're looking at another illegal war and more debilitating debt with this current out of control administration and we cannot wait until a Democrat (we hope) wins and takes office. Tell them that! (Maybe we should all send the Judiciary members, Pelosi and/or Hoyer copies of John Nichols' book, The Genius of Impeachment.)
We can all find the latest toll free numbers to the Congressional Switchboard posted at Thom Hartmann's CallCongress.org page
Thanks for all your hard work, Bob!
Peace,

bugging them
"Besides this, I still think we should be calling Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer and bugging them."
That must have been a pun, but thinking on this, what's good for the gander is good for the goose.
Some how we have to get
Some how we have to get through to Nancy and all of our representatives that they can't win and stay in office, if they lose the grassroots support. I think that most of us are sick and tired of being marginalized and ignored by the party leaders and then getting the calls, letters and e-mails begging for our money. When I get their calls and am told that the call is being recorded I usually explain to them why I am not excited to write them a check. The problem is that unless they hear that from thousands of us, they porbably chalk it up to just another disgruntled democrat who just doesn't understand the situation in DC. The poor volenteers don't know much at all about politics or the issues so I go very easy on most of them ;)

Impeachment
We have a civil system to present evidence of illegal activity in support of impeachment of the President and Vice President. This is an investigation by Congress or open floor debate of Congress such as the bill offered by Representive Dennis Kucinich.
I want to see facts in evidence to replace unsupported claims and the vocal supposition or wrong doing. Debate should shed light to these claims and charges. Only then can a responsible representative take a positon.
I agree with dinamic that I
I agree with dinamic that I am sick and tired of those Democrats asking me for money when they haven't done what I voted them in to do. And don't even talk to me about Feinstein! She is something else, trying to act like she thought real hard about voting why she should or shouldn't vote for this new potential Attorney General and then saying she WILL vote him in. It is all absolutely disgusting. Asking me for money on top of all this is soooo ridiculous. I haven't given them any and I'm not going to any time soon.
Bush and company is untrustable and needs to go. period...
RE: Money for campaigns
They don't need our money since corporations give it to them to win. They pay both sides.
Might we not show up for their re-elections campaigns or boo them when they appear? Ask questions as to their loyality and bad votes, etc. Go prepared with their voting records. Too bad we can't throw rotten tomatoes at them like in the past.
We need better Democrats
More and better Democrats, if we're going to change the culture down there. A few more fighters would do us a lot of good.

Better Democrats
I agree Lawrence for Co.
We worked hard and sent money to get them into power only to have them join the Republicans. They are like a big frat club. When they call each other friend and talk about their respect I feel like I'm watching a Mafia movie.
How do we get good representatives when they tell us what we want to hear and lie to us about what their intensions are? I sent money and time on Democratic candidates (such as Obama and Bean) only to be disappointed. Plug them into a lie detector? Ride them through the streets on a rail, etc.?
We must find a way for citizens to remove these traitors by petitions for new elections. Waiting for 2008 won't do a bit of good since they steal them.
The Last Resort
The Democratic leadership in Congress has dropped the ball, which seems very mysterious until one considers that it's likely that they, like the Bush regime, work for the multinational oligarchy (companies like Halliburton, Cheney's employer). There is only one way for the people to prevail over this kind of world power. It is pretty much a sure thing IF EVERYBODY SIGNS ON. To find out what it is, go to www.pledgetoimpeach.org and send all your friends there, too.
