Wexler Lights Impeachment Fire in Congress

As promised, Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) went to the floor of the House to demand impeachment hearings, and he set the House on fire with his passion! Watch for yourself:

You can see Wexler holding the printed signatures of nearly 200,000 activists from Democrats.com and our pro-impeachment allies. (And thanks for thanking all of us, Rep. Wexler!)

Impeachment Is Possible: Here's Why

Local Editorials Reject Bush's Torture

It's been 5 days since ABC News revealed Bush approved torture. Yet the nation's leading newspapers - the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, etc. - have yet to publish an editorial.

Debating Booman on Impeachment

Booman believes we have to do something about torture, but doesn't know what.

Any talk of impeachment must account for the seriously depressing prospect that the Republican Party will act collectively as official apologists for torture and thereby, by failing to convict, establish the unhealthy precedent that the most serious violations of human rights are not worthy of removal from office. Compounding the problem is that a failure to attempt to impeach will establish the same precedent.

I believe Booman's argument misses the politics of impeachment entirely.

Debating Digby on Impeachment

Digby is the soul of the progressive blogosphere, and of course one of my favorite bloggers. So why isn't she calling for impeachment?

When ABC reported Bush personally approved torture last Friday, Digby's first reaction was shock.

Did Bush Approve Sex Torture Too?

Troutfishing takes the torture story to another shocking level:

The meetings described by ABC, and other National Security Council meetings on torture, directly involved George W. Bush who, as NSC head, signs off on major NSC decisions and policy formulations. Such as on torture. Bush wasn't "insulated": the use of that word is absurd and deceptive. Bush signed off on waterboarding.

Media Avoids Torture while Bloggers Avoid Impeachment

Impeach Bush and Cheney for Torture - Sign the Petition!

On Friday, George Bush told ABC he personally approved of the approval of torture by Dick Cheney and his top cabinet officials.

"Well, we started to connect the dots, in order to protect the American people." Bush told ABC New s White House correspondent Martha Raddatz. "And, yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved."...

Bush said the ABC report about the Principals' involvement was not so "startling."

Well perhaps Bush didn't find it startling, but torture happens to be both a U.S. felony and an international war crime subject to the death penalty.

Spitzer Resigns - It's Time to Impeach Bush

Today Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized again to the people of New York for his personal failings and resigned, just 16 months after winning an historic landslide election with 70% of the vote.

But Spitzer's resignation was not entirely voluntary, because Republican leaders were busy drafting Articles of Impeachment.

What was Spitzer's impeachable offense? The "lowest" crime in the book.

As we know, the Founding Fathers wanted Impeachment to be used for "High Crimes" like treason, bribery, war crimes, and subverting the Constitution itself.

Eliot Spitzer committed no "High Crimes" - but George Bush and Dick Cheney most certainly have, and they continue to do so with absolute impunity.
