Goss Quits As Hookergate Explodes
If you haven't been following Hookergate, now's the time to catch up. Here's the nutshell from ThinkProgress: For more than a decade, Cunningham-linked defense contractor Brent Wilkes curried favor with lawmakers and CIA officials by hosting weekly parties at lavish hospitality suites at the Watergate and Westin hotels in Washington. Guests would gamble, socialize, and sometimes receive prostitutes; according to Harper’s magazine, the festivities “began early with poker games and degenerated” into what one source described “as a ‘frat party’ scene — real bacchanals.” The highest-ranking CIA official to admit he attended the poker parties thrown by Wilkes is Executive Director Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, the agency’s third-ranking official. (Foggo even “occasionally hosted the poker parties at his house in northern Virginia,” though he denies ever seeing prostitutes at the gatherings.) Foggo’s connections to Wilkes and fellow contractor Mitchell Wade are now the focus of an investigation into CIA contracts by the agency’s inspector general, first made public in March... Last week, Harper’s magazine reported that party-goers “under intense scrutiny by the FBI are current and former lawmakers on Defense and Intelligence committees — including one person who now holds a powerful intelligence post.” CIA Director Porter Goss is perhaps the only individual who fits such a description. (Goss denied the accusations through a spokesperson.) But the alleged links between Goss, Foggo, and Wilkes led some to return to questions raised when Goss initially selected Foggo to be executive director in November 2004. TPMMucker.com is blogging all the details. So why exactly did Goss quit? Justin Rood says "Goss was told to fire Kyle "Dusty" Foggo, his troublesome Executive Director, and Goss refused." That seems plausible, but it's just the tip of the iceberg if any of the Hookergate rumors are true. Josh Marshall describes the broader picture:

How disgusting
What a low-life element in our government.
Goss Advocated Federal Grand Jury to Determine Leakers
Peter Goss, the former Florida Republican congressman of 16 years who became head of the CIA barely 13 months ago, resigned from the Bush administration today. There is speculation that Goss, who formerly headed the House Intelligence Committee and served on the Select Committee for Homeland Security, cut and ran because he was passed over for a higher position, that of Director of National Intelligence, held by John Negroponte.
Negroponte has a long history of facilitating the US government's covert operations, in both the Reagan and George H.W. Bush (41) administrations. Negroponte introduced arms dealers to Honduran armed forces procurers in 1984 after the US banned such sales. Negroponte also developed a plan with George H.W. Bush to funnel Contra-aid money through the Honduran government and is accused of lying to Congress about his knowledge of human rights violations in Honduras while he was our US ambassador there.
Goss' resignation comes a day after Ray McGovern, a 27-year CIA veteran who was once tasked with doing morning intelligence briefings for former President G.W.H. Bush questioned publicly whether Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld lied before the Iraq invasion that there was "bulletproof evidence" linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida.
When appointed by Mr. Bush, Calif. Rep. Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, told FOX News: "Porter Goss is the kind of guy who pulls agencies together but probably, most importantly, Porter Goss believes in human intelligence."
The CIA was recently rocked when senior analyst Mary McCarthy was sacked after allegedly disclosing classified information to NY Times reporter Dana Priest about secret prisons in Eastern Europe operated by the CIA, so-called "black sites." No criminal charges have been issued in that case.
Goss was pressed for intensive probes about leaked intelligence. "The damage has been very severe to our capabilities to carry out our mission," he told Congress in February, adding that a federal grand jury should be impaneled to determine "who is leaking this information."
More of the same
Well here we go again! When will the time come when all of the despicable people in the Bush administration are hauled off to prison and we get out country back? This just disgusts me! Notice how right after they broke the news they had to trump it with the news of Rep. Kennedy going into rehab. While that is news it's PALE in comparison to the CIA story. Let the spin begin...
Thank you.
