AHRF

From David Swanson:

I'm looking forward to speaking at the Athens Human Rights Festival in Athens, Ga., on May 14 and 15, 2011.

I'm also looking forward to hearing the great line-up of speakers, poets, singers, and musicians.

Here's the schedule

ahrf 2

This festival began in 1979 to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Kent State murders. That first year, Gene Guerrero (Director - Georgia American Civil Liberties Union) urged students to oppose the reinstatement of the draft.  Attorney Hue Henry criticized UGA President Fred Davison's "pattern of arrogance" and supported the Free Speech Task Force's lawsuit against the Board of Regents' policy of preventing students from addressing Board meetings. Gary Appelson (Athenians for Clean Energy) appealed for unity to fight nuclear power. Promoting solar energy, Appelson said, "We think we are free to go to war and to interfere in the Middle East. Americans are oil junkies." Tommy Jordan played acoustic guitar and has performed at every festival since.

At the 1981 festival, Dave Dellinger warned, "If the world is going to survive, the resurgence of the peace movement must continue," and Elton Manzione (Vietnam Veterans Against the War and Grass Roots Organizing Workshop - GROW) spoke from his experience as a Navy SEAL.ahrf 3

The history of the Athens Human Rights Festival is one of relentless support for human rights, including the rights of humans targeted by the United States military.

This is an example to most U.S. human rights groups.

And the music makes this event an example for most activist productions.  This is the revolution with the music.

I hope to see you there:

SATURDAY May 14th 10 a.m. to midnight

SUNDAY 2 pm to 10 pm

College Square, Athens, Ga.

Rain or Shine.

I Like Mike

Commentary By: Ronald L. Cain

September 17, 2010

Have you been listening to Johnny Isakson’s political campaign ads? I try to tune them out because they are mostly sophism (apparently clever but flawed argument: an argument or explanation that seems very clever or subtle on the surface but is actually flawed, misleading, or intended to deceive).

Consider, for example, Isakson’s claim that he wants to reduce spending and favors balancing the federal budget.

President Clinton ended his presidency with a budget surplus around $500 - $600 billion when the Republicans took control of Congress and the White House. It was squandered.

Republican Experiment Gone Wrong

Commentary By: Ronald L. Cain

July 8, 2010

This eight year Republican experiment has been a colossal disaster. Georgia citizens have seen their property taxes increased. In some cases, as much as 300 hundred present.

Local school systems have lost funding. Teachers have been fired. And curriculums reduced. And students attending Georgia’s state schools can expect to see their tuition raised by as much as 16 percent by the fall. The increases come after the state legislature cut more than $200 million from higher education.

HELLO All,

I have just moved to Georgia (6 months ago) and to Cherokee County.  I am having a hard time finding anyone to work with.  I would like to volunteer for the election to work the polls.

In navigating, I went to www.GeorgiaDemocrats.com and was amazed to find the CRAP on it.  This must be removed immediately.  Whoever is in charge here must get this removed.

Please contact me.

Rand Knight for U.S. Senate

We have an energy crisis in this country. Saxby Chambliss, instead of supporting initiatives to address the energy crisis, continues to support the BIG OIL companies.

Chambliss and his Republican buddies in the Senate have been blocking every initiative proposed to develop a comprehensive energy policy

While giving lip service to alternative energy, Chambliss has introduced a number of bills to permit oil drilling in Alaska and the Continental Shelf.

Georgia needs a Senator that will work constructively to address the energy crisis our country is facing. Not someone that supports the BIG OIL companies over the interest of our country and the people.

Before we get too far down this road of trying to find the ticket by trial and error, let us be real.   Go get Al Gore out of the best sellers tour and put him together with President Clinton and let's get this show on the road and make sure that the Rethuglicans don't get near the White House and lie to us, steal from us or anything like that.

By doing so, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama can build a base by leading cabinet lives for four or eight years and then they will be completely ready.  Right now there are too many black voters, like myself, even with research who are not sure Mr. O is ready AND I don't want any of these right wingers out to do them harm.

Both will be viable candidates with a little more seasoning.  We need stability--we need proven leadership--we need GORE-CLINTON, ticket of the 42nd Presidency backwards.

Greetings all

My wife and i are poll workers in the state of georgia. i would like everyone to know this. voter influence is the norm here.

The election officials whom are in charge of the election are all of a conservative bend. Only the republican poll official are allowed to load in the HARDDRIVES and THERMAL paper, in the Diebold voting machines. Not the poll workers?

I am concerned about this. As i worked my first election, in the gerogia primary, back in july, i set up all the diebold machines, intsalled the harddrives and thermal printer paper.

Now this does not happen? No one within the Cobb county elections office will explain this to me? I am told if i have concerns, to contact the State board of elections.

The new GA03 race is between Republican incumbent Lynn Westmoreland and newcomer Mike McGraw.  I really believe Mike has a chance to clip Westmoreland's wings, as people seem less than thrilled to have the self-described "Nothingest Congressman in Congress" representing them.

Westmoreland is considered a shoo-in by the Repugs, and is getting their support.  Our Dear Dem CC leaders are sitting on their hands and provided next to nothing in the way of support for McGraw.  They throw in the towel in far too many contests, then stand there and whine about Repugs taking over.  I'm furious with them, and fighting for Mike.
