Fox Advertisers

A. These customer-respecting advertisers stopped supporting Glenn Beck's hate speech.

Binder & Binder

  • 8/28/09 I fully agree with you concerning Glen Beck’s comments, and I have asked Fox News to remove our commercials from his program. Glen Beck’s comments have been so far off the wall, that it’s hard to think that anyone with any common sense would take them seriously. In fact, I wonder if he’s been drinking again. Here’s our problem. Our commercial buy on Fox News is contracted under a system called ROS – that’s run of schedule. What that means is we buy a certain number of commercials, and the network schedules them where they see fit. The big buck guys can afford to buy specific shows. We can’t. So, Fox may or may not honor my request to remove our spots from any particular program. If they don’t, I can of course, not renew at the end of our broadcast contract…but not before. As with any contract, one party can’t simply decide not to fulfill its obligations to the other.

Clorox

  • 8/24/09 a former Beck advertiser, now says that "we do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts." The maker of bleach and household cleaners said in a statement that is has decided not to advertise on political talk shows.
  • "The Clorox Company remains committed to quality broadcasting. We pride ourselves in being a responsible advertiser and have established long-standing and strict standards for the selection of television programming. Per our standards, we do not advertise in programs that display exploitive sex or violence; treat ethnic, religious or political groups in a disparaging manner; present facts inaccurately or distort them to blatantly partisan advantage; and treat individuals or groups in a demeaning manner.
Clorox holds true to our advertising standards and we hold true to our nation's heritage of free expression of political opinions. However, consistent with our standards, we do not want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts. After a comprehensive review of political talks shows across the spectrum, at this time we have made a decision not to advertise on political talk shows.
Today's television programming environment is extremely challenging for responsible advertisers. However, The Clorox Company will continue to exercise special care in all program and station selection. We do not want to support programming that is in conflict with our programming standards."

Closing.com

  • 8/28/09 Our TV commercial on Fox News yesterday was purchased on a “run of schedule” rotation basis, which gives the network sole discretion for scheduling the time and day that the ad appears. We did not make the choice to sponsor any particular program, nor do we condone the views of any program host on any of the cable networks where we have purchased commercial air time. Fox News has agreed to place our advertising elsewhere in their rotation.

CVS Caremark

  • 8/24/09 said it advertises on Fox but hadn't said anything about Beck. Now it has told its advertising agency to inform Fox that it wanted no commercials on Beck. "We support vigorous debate, especially around policy issues that affect millions of Americans, but we expect it to be informed, inclusive and respectful," said spokeswoman Carolyn Castel

Dannon

  • 8/31/09 I can assure you we share your concerns about the quality and appropriateness of programming. We do all that we can to ensure that it meets Dannon standards.
As you may know, companies like Dannon typically purchase advertising "rotations" throughout a network's or station's scheduled programming.  And although we work diligently through our advertising agency to avoid inappropriate programming, on occasion our safeguards are inadequate.  For us, that is an indication that we must redouble our efforts in this regard, and we will.
We are committed to participating in programs that reflect the high quality of our products.  That is our directive to our advertising agency, and it is not negotiable.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on this important matter.  You can be sure we value your comments and we hope in the future that we can count you as a consumer of Dannon products.

Kraft

  • 8/24/09 In recent years, there has been a proliferation of shows with extreme content, including on the political front. These shows often are controversial and do not align with our company or brand values. We do not want to become associated with controversy simply because of the placement of a 30-second spot. That’s why we have made the decision to stop advertising on the more politically extreme programs, including The Glenn Beck Show, on all networks.

UPS Stores

  • 8/24/09 temporarily halted buying ads on Fox News Channel as a whole. UPS' Hallabran said the decision to pull commercials "should not be interpreted as we are permanently withdrawing our advertising from Fox." He said the company wants to reach viewers with a wide spectrum of opinions.

  • 8/19/09 Viewers should not assume that L.L.Bean endorses or opposes a specific view expressed by Fox or any other station.
