NY, West Point: "Army - Don't Go To Iraqistan!" Rally

Start: 11/14/2009 - 10:30am

End: 11/14/2009 - 10:30am

Please try to attend the next "Army - Don't Go to Iraqistan" rally to be held this coming Saturday, Oct. 10 at West Point to address people arriving for the Army-Vanderbilt football game. Directions.

We will gather at 10:30 a.m. in Highland Falls by the clock at the southern most tip of the public park at Main Street and West Point Highway, just south of West Point's Thayer Gate. The rally will end at noon, kickoff time.

Eleven of us attended the rally there this last Saturday, and we found the experience very worthwhile.

We came to West Point because it is the nation’s top training center for young people entering Army leadership and because it is a way to reach out to people who are directly affected by the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The photos below are graciously provided by Andy Courtney.

GA, Ft. Benning: Mass Mobilization to Shut Down the School of the Americas

Start: 11/20/2009 - 12:00am

End: 11/22/2009 - 11:59pm

Save the Dates! Check back for details as available.

November 20-22, 2009 - Converge on Fort Benning, Georgia
Mass Mobilization to Shut Down the School of the Americas (SOA/ WHINSEC)!

The military coup by SOA graduates in Honduras has once again exposed the destabilizing and deadly effects that the School of the Americas has on Latin America. The actions of the school's graduates are unmasking the Pentagon rhetoric and reveal the anti-democratic results of U.S. policies. It is time for a change towards justice.

From November 20-22, 2209, thousands will vigil at the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia, to stand up for justice, to shut down the School of the Americas and to end the oppressive U.S. foreign policy that the school represents.

Featuring:

Iraqi Oil Worker Union Leaders

Pakistani Women, Youth & Labor leaders

Scholars and Policy Experts on Afghanistan

Antiwar Trade Unionists from Across the US

Iraq & Afghan War Veterans

We are at a turning point in US History. In 2008 the labor movement had a moment of triumph, playing a critical role in electing Barack Obama and a majority Democratic Congress. In 2009 we find ourselves still in the middle of a devastating economic crisis with wars and militarism standing between working people and the peaceful just world we seek and deserve.
