Special Event in Washington DC to mark International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
Amnesty International is bringing a life-size model of a maximum security cell at Guantánamo, as part of its tour to cities across the USA.
The tour is a way to enable people in the United States to get a glimpse of the harsh realities of illegal detention and prolonged isolation.
The Guantanamo cell replica will be open to the public in DC from June 25 - 29. The cell will be located 4 blocks from the Smithsonian Metro Station at the corner of 14th and Constitution.

In this devastating exposé of amilitary occupation gone awry, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Chris Hedges and journalist Laila Al-Arian reveal the terrifying reality of daily civilian life in Iraq at the hands of U.S. troops. Based on hundreds of hours of interviews with combat veterans, Collateral Damage represents the largest number of named eyewitnesses from within the U.S. military to have testified on the record. These veterans, many of whom have come to oppose the war, explain the tactics and operations that have turned many Iraqis against the U.S. military.

These emergency meetings are being called to raise awareness of the rapidly escalating danger of a possible U.S. preemptive attack on Iran – perhaps before Bush leaves office – and to organize mass opposition to any U.S. military action against Iran.

After sitting through the suspect 2000 and 2004 elections, I had to go out with my camera to find out if what I felt in my gut was true: our elections in America are far from secure.
This investigation led me on a journey throughout Ohio, the pivotal swing state that decided the last presidential election. I met politicians, activists, election officials, journalists, attorneys, party leaders, a lot of cool locals who helped me shoot it all, and Jerry Springer.
The evidence I came across showed not just efforts to steal votes at the polls, but to systematically block millions of Americans from even casting a vote. When some people know they can't win fairly, they'll do everything they can to cheat.

AIUSA will hold a Congressional lobby week to close Guantanamo. We'll be calling on the US government to charge detainees and give them fair trials, or release them. We'll also be calling for an end to torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment--and for accountability for those responsible.

June 30 - Paul “zool” Zulkowitz of Woodmere, NY, represented by antiwar attorney Ann Wilcox, won an agreement with the United States Government today. Zool voiced opposition during the public hearing with General David Petraeus at the Senate Armed Services Committee chaired by Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), on April 8, 2008. AIUSA will hold a Congressional lobby week to close Guantanamo. We'll be calling on the US government to charge detainees and give them fair trials, or release them. We'll also be calling for an end to torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment--and for accountability for those responsible.
Most of the detainees at Guantánamo are held in isolation, many of them with virtually no access to natural light or contact with other human beings, for up to 24 hours a day. Compounding their suffering is the fact that they have no indication of when or if they will be freed from Guantánamo. Most are detained without charge. With five deaths and over a dozen hospitalizations, the American people should expect that all investigative leads would be vigorously pursued, a process Kissin is questioning.
You will recall that the McClendon News Service has never thought that the FBI's response to the attacks passed ‘the smell test.’ Now that former anthrax-attack ‘person of interest’ Steven J. Hatfill has been granted a nearly $6 million DOJ settlement, the odor has become pervasive.

Redeclaring Our Independence
USAF LT. Col. (Ret.) Dr. Robert Bowman, Star Wars Missile Defense Shield Director under three presidents will be the keynote speaker at redeclaring Our Independence, a July 4th picnic at Laurie Dobson's farm, 78 Old Cape Rd. in Kennebunkport, Maine. Seeds of Peace Collective is a non-profit collective dedicated to providing support to groups and individuals striving for social, economic, and environmental justice. Since our inception during the 1987 Great Peace Walk, we have provided kitchen, first aid, and educational support for mass actions and other campaigns addressing the important issues of our time. Seeds of Peace is pleased to announce we have finalized the schedule and location for a full Free Action Camp this July in Northern Wisconsin. The Camp will be located at Anathoth Community Farm near the small town of Luck, Wisconsin. We invite all social and environmental justice activists, organizers, and other interested parties to attend this exciting and educational event.
