On Thursday, May 22, Roust Theatre Company hosts a special
performance of its 20th Anniversary production of Lee Blessing's TWO
ROOMS -- a penetrating political drama about hostage-taking, the
story-hungry press, and the staggering ineptitude of government which,
despite the twenty intervening years, remains frighteningly relevant
-- to benefit Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) at The
Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street) in Manhattan.
In addition to the performance of TWO ROOMS, the May 22nd benefit
includes a wine reception and post-show talkback with the cast and
creative team, director James Phillip Gates, and special guest IAVA
Executive Director and Founder Paul Rieckhoff, who is also the author
of the controversial book "Chasing Ghosts: A Soldier's Fight for
America from Baghdad to Washington."

Controversial 120,000 flag Memorial Day display honoring Iraq War dead approved; volunteers will begin setting flags Saturday
SACRAMENTO – A special, but controversial Memorial Day display of 120,000 flags to commemorate the human death toll of the war in Iraq will begin to take shape here on Capitol Mall Saturday when a small army of volunteers will show up to start placing the flags in the ground.
There will be a news briefing SATURDAY at 9:30 a.m. at 9th & Capitol Mall when volunteers begin the 2-day task. The display is expected to be completed no later than Memorial Day.
A special ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Memorial Day/MONDAY at 9th & Capitol Mall.
The approval for the display – which will fill all of the grassy medians along seven blocks of Capitol Mall – took not one, but two, votes of the Sacramento City Council this week after the city reneged on a permit for the display.

WASHINGTON, DC - Detainees at the U.S. Military Prison in Guantanamo
will finally get their day in court on May 27 - Municipal Court, in
Washington DC.
That is when 35 Americans from cities and towns across the country
will go on trial on charges of "unlawful free speech" and "causing a
harangue" during a protest at the U.S. Supreme Court on January 11.
In a new twist on traditional protest, the 35 activists will enter
their names as those of actual Guantanamo inmates, giving them the
day in court the Pentagon has been denying them for years. During the
trial, the defense will call expert witnesses to document the abuses
at Guantanamo and will justify their acts as defenses of American
law. In a morning rally at the courthouse, the defendants will place

performance of its 20th Anniversary production of Lee Blessing's TWO
ROOMS -- a penetrating political drama about hostage-taking, the
story-hungry press, and the staggering ineptitude of government which,
despite the twenty intervening years, remains frighteningly relevant
-- to benefit Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) at The
Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street) in Manhattan.
In addition to the performance of TWO ROOMS, the May 22nd benefit
includes a wine reception and post-show talkback with the cast and
creative team, director James Phillip Gates, and special guest IAVA

Peace, Impeachment and Election Day: Which Comes First?
A leading national activist for peace and impeachment, David Swanson, will speak on “Peace, Impeachment & Election Day: Which Comes First?" in a Milwaukee appearance on Thursday, June 19.
Swanson will speak at 7 p.m. in Cudahy Hall, 1313 W. Wisconsin Ave., on the Marquette University campus. His talk is sponsored by the Iraq Moratorium, Peace Action-Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Impeachment Committee, and the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Swanson is co-founder of the AfterDowningStreet.org coalition, creator of ImpeachCheney.org, the Washington director of Democrats.com, and, a board member of Progressive Democrats of America, of the Backbone Campaign, and of Voters for Peace.
