Iraq Veterans Against the War Brings Winter Soldier to DC: U.S. veterans who served in those occupations will testify, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.

This four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence.

There will also be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony.

Join us for an information session about the Kennebunkport Town Meeting Ballot Article calling for the Indictment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Maine's Independent US Senate Candidate Laurie Dobson will speak about reasons why this indictment should be taken up in Kennebunkport. The legal justification for this indictment resolution, has been prepared by human rights lawyer Harold Burbank, a Kennebunk native, and legal expert on the issue of war crimes.

The 'Bush-Cheney Indictment' resolution was delivered to the Kennebunkport Town Offices at high noon on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Upon the receipt of the required 210 signatures, it shall be placed upon the Town Meeting Agenda for the June or November Warrants.

The Greater Newburyport (MA) Coalition for Peace and Justice is sponsoring a Peace Vigil and March for the 5th Anniversary of the War.

It is being held on Sunday, March 16 from 12:00-1:30 from Market Square, Newburyport, MA.

We have also continued a Peace Vigil every Sunday afternoon from 12:00-1:00 since the beginning of the Iraq War.

This is a Call to Action for Nevada County to join hundreds of rallies in cities worldwide to demand an end to the Iraq War. We mark this anniversary by calling for peace, now and in our future, for the good of all rather than the profit of a few. Nevada County still says No to War! Mark your calendar and save the afternoon! A coalition of anti-war activists plans to peacefully assemble on March 16, 2008 from 2 PM to 4 PM near Senator Arlen Specter's home on West Schoolhouse Lane (between Henry Avenue and Gypsy Lane) in East Falls, Philadelphia PA 19129.

On the fifth anniversary of the U.S. occupation of Iraq, 24 peace groups (including Northwest Greens) will demonstrate. They want Specter to author a bill that will cut off funding, except what is needed to withdraw our troops safely.

Impeach or Else Rally

It is now undeniable that the Federal Government has failed us completely. We have asked our representatives to hold the Bush Administration accountable. Instead, they have blocked the Impeachment movement all over our country.

As we approach the anniversary of the illegal Iraq invasion, we have not given up on the idea of holding the criminals in the Bush Administration or those who enable them accountable. There is something that you can do. It is now time for Plan B.

Impeach for Peace researched a method for impeaching the President or Vice President using a little known and rarely used part of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives ("Jefferson's Manual"). This document actually empowers individual states to initiate the impeachment process. All that's required is that the MN House and Senate pass an impeachment resolution.

Panel Discussion: Debating the Surge in Iraq
Andrew Bacevich (Boston University), Michele Flournoy (Center for New American Security), and Major General Robert Scales (U.S. Army, ret.)

On the 5th anniversary of the Iraq invasion, the Center for American Progress will host a panel discussion to assess the impact of the surge of over 30,000 American troops which took place in 2007. Panelists will analyze the impact of the surge on the security situation in Iraq, its effect on Iraq's political process and where the United States should go from here. With the drawdown of the surge forces already underway, panelists will also analyze the effect of the surge on U.S. military readiness and overall U.S. security interests in the Middle East.

Panel Discussion: Financial Costs of the War in Iraq

Linda Bilmes (Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government) and Steve Kosiak (Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments)
In 2002, before the war in Iraq began, White House economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey offered an "upper bound" estimate of the cost of the war in Iraq to be $100 to $200 billion. Nearly 4,000 American and between 100,000 and 600,000 Iraqi lives later, the direct cost of the Iraq war is approaching $1 trillion and the total cost may well exceed $3 trillion. Panelists will discuss the both the direct and indirect costs of the war in Iraq. At a time when the American economy is near recession, panelists will also discuss the impact of the war's record financial cost on the American economy.

"How to Indict George W. Bush in Kennebunkport"

Join us for an information session about the Kennebunkport Town Meeting Ballot Article calling for the Indictment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Maine's Independent US Senate Candidate Laurie Dobson will speak about reasons why this indictment should be taken up in Kennebunkport. The legal justification for this indictment resolution, has been prepared by human rights lawyer Harold Burbank, a Kennebunk native, and legal expert on the issue of war crimes.

The 'Bush-Cheney Indictment' resolution was delivered to the Kennebunkport Town Offices at high noon on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Upon the receipt of the required 210 signatures, it shall be placed upon the Town Meeting Agenda for the June or November Warrants.

We are a vigil for peace. We call for Peace, Care for the wounded, and Benefits as promised for the veterans.

Vigil Status:

March 21st was a terrific night at the Vigil. The students and folks from Code Pink returned to help us mark the 3rd Anniversary of the Vigil and the beginning of our fourth year. The students were from Holy Cross, Brown, Oklahoma, Wesleyan, and Columbia. We had enough people to cover both sides of Georgia Avenue.

Back in 2005, we pledged our selves to stay committed to the Vigil because we knew the soldiers inside must know that our purpose was sincere and not just a show. We knew that meant a long-term commitment but, and it shows how hopeful we were, we did not think that we might still be calling for the troops to come home three years later. We did not know then that besides Afghanistan and Iraq that the war would be on the brink of spreading to Iran.

Music, painting, plays, fiction, film--the arts are justifying war more than peace.

None of these elements of our culture are oriented enough toward peace; all are crucial components of our culture. Indeed, each affects each other and each affects the outcome: will our culture tend to produce war or tend to produce peace?

Impeachment 101: How Impeachment Serves a Democracy!

"How to Indict George W. Bush in Kennebunkport"

Join us for an information session about the Kennebunkport Town Meeting Ballot Article calling for the Indictment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Maine's Independent US Senate Candidate Laurie Dobson will speak about reasons why this indictment should be taken up in Kennebunkport. The legal justification for this indictment resolution, has been prepared by human rights lawyer Harold Burbank, a Kennebunk native, and legal expert on the issue of war crimes.

The 'Bush-Cheney Indictment' resolution was delivered to the Kennebunkport Town Offices at high noon on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Upon the receipt of the required 210 signatures, it shall be placed upon the Town Meeting Agenda for the June or November Warrants.

The people of New Hampshire have the power to send a petition to the U.S. Congress urging Congress to COMMENCE IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS.

If bill HR 24 passes in the N.H. House, it will be sent to the United States Congress. No vote in the Senate is needed, nor is the signature of the Governor.

Phone your representatives by April 15th and urge them to support Betty Hall's bill HR 24.

Better yet, have a CALLING BEE: Invite your friends to gather for an afternoon of telephoning all of NH's representatives.

Historians Against the War (HAW) invites you to a national conference for historians and activists, April 11-13, 2008 at Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta, co-sponsored by the Peace History Society. The title is “War and Its Discontents: Understanding Iraq and the U.S. Empire.”

“Everything’s Cool” provides viable arguments from both sides of the global warming issue in a quirky and witty fashion. Unlike “An Inconvenient Truth”. “Everything’s Cool” tackles the same important topic without “Inconvenient Truth’s” scare tactics. The film is a quirky combination of cartoons and stock footage along with interviews. The filmmakers follow numerous types of people on both sides of the argument from 2003 to 2006 and document how their lives are affected by global warming. All the interviewees are quite entertaining.

The Iraq Policy Forum is being hosted by the Elliott School of International Affairs’ new Institute for Middle East Studies at The George Washington University.

More than a dozen US-based NGOs, including those now operating inside Iraq and in the Middle East Region, are convening this important Forum on the Humanitarian Situation Facing Iraqis. Our shared vision for the forum is a full day of panels that bring together key actors who are responding to humanitarian needs in Iraq and the region, including senior officials with UN, US, Iraqi, and nongovernmental agencies. We also plan to have respected scholars, refugee advocates and aid professionals who can offer recent perspectives from the field.
