Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, who will tell the hard truth about what is really happening, day in and day out, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

In 1776, Thomas Paine wrote: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

Impeach or Else Rally

It is now undeniable that the Federal Government has failed us completely. We have asked our representatives to hold the Bush Administration accountable. Instead, they have blocked the Impeachment movement all over our country.

As we approach the anniversary of the illegal Iraq invasion, we have not given up on the idea of holding the criminals in the Bush Administration or those who enable them accountable. There is something that you can do. It is now time for Plan B.

Impeach for Peace researched a method for impeaching the President or Vice President using a little known and rarely used part of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives ("Jefferson's Manual"). This document actually empowers individual states to initiate the impeachment process. All that's required is that the MN House and Senate pass an impeachment resolution.

Venezuela: Participatory Democracy or Democracy As Usual?

* April 18-20, 2008
* Howard University
* Washington, D.C.

Dear Friends of Venezuela,
Today we are witnessing the emergence of democracy in countries that have existed for too long under regimes controlled by U.S. corporate interests. Throughout Latin America and the Caribbean countries are developing a true path to self-determination and self-sufficiency, along with Simon Bolivar’s dream of unity and self-empowerment.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is in the forefront of this movement, no thanks to the powerful corporate media in the U.S. People in the United States - including activists, academics, policymakers, religious groups and labor unions – lack a depth of understanding about what is taking place in Venezuela and its ramifications for the Western Hemisphere.

SWAMI BEYONDANANDA'S
WAKE UP LAUGHING Tour

Join the Up-Wising!

We’re living in serious times. And yet ... there’s something funny going on. Which means there is more reason to laugh, and more need for it. The more unfunny occurrences that occur, the more important it is to fortify ourselves with heart-opening, mind-expanding comedy. Wholehearted laughter is the ultimate weapon of “mass-deconstruction” to blow apart the insanity that masks itself as “sanity” in this shrinking world that could use a good shrink.

That’s why we are calling Swami’s upcoming tour -- that will take us to the Big Island of Hawaii, to Charlottesville, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Asheville, North Carolina in April -- the Wake Up Laughing tour. We need to awaken, and what better to wake us up than through the sound of our own laughter?

On the morning of Wednesday, March 19 at the American Petroleum Institute

- END the War in Iraq -
- SHIFT Funding from War and Big Oil to Clean Energy and Human Needs -
- SEPARATE Oil and State -

U.S democracy is compromised by the influence of Big Oil, which pours millions into political campaigns and lobbying.†† Big Oil millions not only greased the Congressional votes that got us into the Iraq War and continues to support the illegal occupation, it also is obstructing the shift to a clean energy economy.

Start: 11:00
End: 13:00

In solidarity with hundreds of actions world wide, we'll be hitting the streets on the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq to mourn the dead and suffering and demand an end to this occupation

Wednesday, March 19, 2008:

  • IN BROOKSVILLE, FL: 11:00am to 1:00pm, rally outside Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's office, Hernando County Courthouse, 20 North Main Street.

Start: 14:00

March 19th National Day of Non-Violent Mass Resistance!

WHO: World Can't Wait - Drive Out the Bush Regime and many other groups!
(TBA)

WHAT: No Business As Usual! Non-violently SHUT DOWN the Media Centers who have been complicit with the Crimes of the Bush Regime!

WHEN: Wednesday, March 19th 2008 at 2:00 PM

WHERE: Fisher Plaza 140 4th Ave N Seattle WA

As the fascistic program of the Bush Regime is hammered into place, the media has made the opposition invisible. The mainstream media has become another extension of the Bush Program, where the truth is systematically hidden from the people. The media consistently marginalizes the anti-war/anti-Bush movement including the fight of those in the city of Berkeley CA, who have not rescinded their resolution against military recruiters. We need to hold them accountable for their complicity in the face of war crimes.

Come wearing ORANGE - the color of resistance! Some will be participating in non-violent civil resistance.

Venezuela: Participatory Democracy or Democracy As Usual?

* April 18-20, 2008
* Howard University
* Washington, D.C.

Split This Rock Poetry Festival: Poems of Provocation & Witness

You are invited to our nation’s capital for a festival that celebrates our great tradition of poetry of witness and resistance.

Split This Rock Poetry Festival will feature readings, workshops, panel discussions on poetry and social change, youth programming, films, parties, walking tours, and activism—a unique opportunity to hone our activist skills while we assess and debate the public role of the poet and the poem in this time of crisis.

As citizens and artists, our obligation has never been greater. We call on poets of conscience to move to the center of public life as we forge a visionary new arts movement for peace and justice.
