WASHINGTON DC - 02.21.08 - Over 200 9/11 First Responders, family members and supporters will be rallying on Capitol Hill this Tuesday, February 26th.

From 10:00am to 12:00pm, First Responders will rally on the West Lawn of Capitol Hill.

It has been five years since the war in Iraq began. Since that time, nearly 4,000 United States soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed. This has prompted hundreds of soldiers to join Iraq Veterans Against the War, and openly denounce the US war on terror. Soldiers are deserting the military at an ever increasing rate. Meanwhile, over 60 percent of the American civilian population is opposed to the continuation of the war in Iraq.

On March 15, 2008, in down town Lancaster, there will be a procession, town hall meeting, and silent vigil to demand an end to the five year occupation of Iraq. With your help, hundreds, and possibly thousands of people will come together to march for an end to the war.

Sunday March 2 is the date for the yearly Grass Roots Media Conference, a major movement event in New York organized by the NYC Grassroots Media Coalition. It's taking place at Hunter College this year.

For the past four years, we’ve come together to explore the political dimensions of media and how it shapes our lives. By developing relationships between community and media organizations, the NYC Grassroots Media Coalition is working to re-imagine issues of access to, control of, and power over our media system. The National Conference of Organized Resistance is an annual event that brings together people from all backgrounds for a weekend of learning and discussing local and international social justice issues through workshops, panel discussions, and skillshares. NCOR is held on the main campus of American University in northwest Washington, DC.

Throughout the past year, resistance has thrived in our workplaces, in our neighborhoods, and in our relationships. Oppressed communities organized cooperatively to subvert the systems that only serve the needs of a privileged few.

Please join the "Polar Bear 7" this Friday, March 7, 2 PM in Washington DC Superior Court, Room C-301, 500 Indiana Avenue, NW.

On October 22, 2007, during the "No War, No Warming" demonstration in Washington DC, seven people, including myself, were snatched and arrested by the US Capitol Police. None of us had participated in civil disobedience or broken any law.

According to police documents, seven people "dressed as polar bears," (though I was dressed in a business suit and another defendant, a journalist, was dressed in casual clothes) were arrested for unlawful assembly. While only five of us eventually went to trial, Judge Raphael Diaz referred to us as the "Polar Bear 7" (and alternatively, as "teddy bears").

Following a six day trial in February, Judge Diaz found the "Polar Bear 7" innocent of unlawful assembly, but guilty of "a lesser included" charge, failure to obey a police order.

Ever since I began my fast for impeachment February 12th, each morning, from 8 to 9 AM I have stood in front of the building that houses the office of Representative John Conyers, chair of the House Judiciary Committee who is considering articles of impeachment.

This is a critical time in our nation's history. It is important that we raise our voices at this time any way that we can.

The National Conference of Organized Resistance is an annual event that brings together people from all backgrounds for a weekend of learning and discussing local and international social justice issues through workshops, panel discussions, and skillshares. NCOR is held on the main campus of American University in northwest Washington, DC.

Throughout the past year, resistance has thrived in our workplaces, in our neighborhoods, and in our relationships. Oppressed communities organized cooperatively to subvert the systems that only serve the needs of a privileged few.

Meeting Resistance, a film by Steve Connors and Molly Bingham. The film is described as "the missing puzzle piece in understanding the Iraq war....(It) provides unique insight into the personal narratives of people involved in the resistance, exploding myth after myth about the war and the Iraqis who participate." Following the showing, there will be a discussion with Andy Shallal, artist, peace activist and proprietor of Busboys and Poets.

The Deerfield Beach (FL) Democratic Club will honor Congressman Robert Wexler next Monday night, March 10th, at 7 p.m. As you all know, Congressman Wexler is working hard to get impeachment hearings started on Vice President Dick Cheney. Katrina exposed what was going on in New Orleans and the Gulf South: the lack of resources, the lack of care for its poor in general and its women in particular. There are so many reasons to have V to the 10th in New Orleans, from the vanishing wetlands to the man-made levee failures that flooded the city to the abandonment and complete neglect of human beings. Violence against women was committed physically, economically and environmentally. We need to celebrate New Orleans, cherish it, protect it, just as we do our vaginas, and make sure it goes on and on. We are showing up for the Katrina Warriors, the women of New Orleans and Gulf South who have kept their communities alive with devotion, hard work, sacrifice, humor and wit.

Hear from CD 1 Congressional Candidates

Six Democratic candidates who have filed for Tom Allen's House seat. Michael Brennan, Adam Cote, Mark Lawrence, Steve Meister, Chellie Pingree and Ethan Strimling have been invited by 12 Maine peace and justice organizations to participate in a Public Forum (see list of co-sponsors below).

The topics to be discussed will be centered around U.S. military and foreign policy. It will give us, 1st District voters, an opportunity to ask questions of invited candidates allowing us to judge responses to questions as to how a candidate would, if elected, respond to unfolding world and current events. It is important that we hear their views on foreign policy topics such as Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, Israel-Palestine, nuclear weapons, expanding military budgets and U.S. bases, economic conversion, impeachment and the like.

Sami Rasouli Speaks in Minneapolis

Sami Rasouli is an Iraqi-American who has spent the last three years living in the city of Najaf, Irag and traveling throughout Iraq in his work with Muslim Peacemaker Teams. Sami, who lived for many years in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area before going back to live in Iraq, will talk about "the surge" and the U.S. military occupation, his work for peace and national reconciliation, and the humanitarian needs of the people of Iraq. He will also share stories of the people he has met and give a first-hand account of conditions in Iraq today.

Iraq Veterans Against the War Brings Winter Soldier to DC: U.S. veterans who served in those occupations will testify, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.

This four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence.

There will also be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony.

These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

YOU can participate by watching live, or later, and by inviting many others to join you.

Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, who will tell the hard truth about what is really happening, day in and day out, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

In 1776, Thomas Paine wrote: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

*March 18th & 19th - Chris Dorsey, John Wade and Silver Persinger will be leading awareness actions around the city.

These demonstrations are designed to wake people up and make them understand that the Bush Administration has killed hundreds of thousands of people and tortured countless numbers of innocent people in violation of domestic and International laws. These actions will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

Volunteer street actors are needed.

"A Conversation on Iraq" with Senator Jack Reed (D-RI)

Sen. Jack Reed, a former Army paratrooper, has made 11 trips to Iraq, the most of any senator. At the Center for American Progress, Sen. Reed will discuss his most recent trip to Iraq which took place January 17-18, 2008. Sen. Reed traveled across Iraq with Special Operations forces and visited the cities of Fallujah, Balad, Baqubah, Basra, and Baghdad, where he met with Generals Petraeus and Odierno as well as Ambassador Crocker.

Iraq Veterans Against the War Brings Winter Soldier to DC: U.S. veterans who served in those occupations will testify, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.

This four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence.

There will also be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony.

These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

YOU can participate by watching live, or later, and by inviting many others to join you.

Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, who will tell the hard truth about what is really happening, day in and day out, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels will cover everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.

In 1776, Thomas Paine wrote: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

Next Wednesday, March 19th is the 5 year anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Peace and Justice groups across the country and throughout the world are holding actions to demand an end to the funding of the occupation, along with the impeachment of the president and vice president who lied us into it. There are more than 465 local events in all 50 states planned. Here in Richmond, citizens are coming together to speak up:

Join us for an information session about the Kennebunkport Town Meeting Ballot Article calling for the Indictment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Maine's Independent US Senate Candidate Laurie Dobson will speak about reasons why this indictment should be taken up in Kennebunkport. The legal justification for this indictment resolution, has been prepared by human rights lawyer Harold Burbank, a Kennebunk native, and legal expert on the issue of war crimes.

The 'Bush-Cheney Indictment' resolution was delivered to the Kennebunkport Town Offices at high noon on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Upon the receipt of the required 210 signatures, it shall be placed upon the Town Meeting Agenda for the June or November Warrants.

The Greater Newburyport (MA) Coalition for Peace and Justice is sponsoring a Peace Vigil and March for the 5th Anniversary of the War.

It is being held on Sunday, March 16 from 12:00-1:30 from Market Square, Newburyport, MA.

We have also continued a Peace Vigil every Sunday afternoon from 12:00-1:00 since the beginning of the Iraq War.

Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. starting at the Broad Street overpass, proceeding up and down Broad Street, Nevada City, and continuing on to a Peace Rally at Pioneer Park.

This is a Call to Action for Nevada County to join hundreds of rallies in cities worldwide to demand an end to the Iraq War. We mark this anniversary by calling for peace, now and in our future, for the good of all rather than the profit of a few. Nevada County still says No to War! We invite all people who would prefer to live in peace to join us. We will be standing together in community to raise our voices and make our wishes obvious. We will end up in Pioneer "Peace" Park for music, food, and socializing. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to Pioneer Park before the event.

Mark your calendar and save the afternoon! A coalition of anti-war activists plans to peacefully assemble on March 16, 2008 from 2 PM to 4 PM near Senator Arlen Specter's home on West Schoolhouse Lane (between Henry Avenue and Gypsy Lane) in East Falls, Philadelphia PA 19129.

On the fifth anniversary of the U.S. occupation of Iraq, 24 peace groups (including Northwest Greens) will demonstrate. They want Specter to author a bill that will cut off funding, except what is needed to withdraw our troops safely.

Impeach or Else Rally

It is now undeniable that the Federal Government has failed us completely. We have asked our representatives to hold the Bush Administration accountable. Instead, they have blocked the Impeachment movement all over our country.

As we approach the anniversary of the illegal Iraq invasion, we have not given up on the idea of holding the criminals in the Bush Administration or those who enable them accountable. There is something that you can do. It is now time for Plan B.

Impeach for Peace researched a method for impeaching the President or Vice President using a little known and rarely used part of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives ("Jefferson's Manual"). This document actually empowers individual states to initiate the impeachment process. All that's required is that the MN House and Senate pass an impeachment resolution.

Panel Discussion: Debating the Surge in Iraq
Andrew Bacevich (Boston University), Michele Flournoy (Center for New American Security), and Major General Robert Scales (U.S. Army, ret.)

On the 5th anniversary of the Iraq invasion, the Center for American Progress will host a panel discussion to assess the impact of the surge of over 30,000 American troops which took place in 2007. Panelists will analyze the impact of the surge on the security situation in Iraq, its effect on Iraq's political process and where the United States should go from here. With the drawdown of the surge forces already underway, panelists will also analyze the effect of the surge on U.S. military readiness and overall U.S. security interests in the Middle East.

Ever since I began my fast for impeachment February 12th, each morning, from 8 to 9 AM I have stood in front of the building that houses the office of Representative John Conyers, chair of the House Judiciary Committee who is considering articles of impeachment.

This is a critical time in our nation's history. It is important that we raise our voices at this time any way that we can.

Please join us in a celebration of Americans Who Tell the Truth, an exhibition of portraits by Robert Shetterly, with a concurrent exhibition by youth in Community Works programs.

Opening Reception will feature acclaimed artist Robert Shetterly; California truth tellers such as James Bell, Daniel Ellsberg, Janice Mirikitani, Carlos Munoz, Eva Paterson, Utah Phillips, Cindy Sheehan, Lateefah Simon, and Cecil Williams; and youth presentations.

Americans Who Tell the Truth highlights important Americans whose dignity, courage, honesty, generosity, compassion, wisdom, tolerance, belief, and relentless quest for truth have shaped this country. Its inspiring portraits are intended to create a dialogue among citizens of this country about what we value most in a democratic society and the importance of truth telling.

Come on people. We can get the signatures. Its a pleasure gathering signatures when everybody wants to sign!!!! People love I 1001! Keep up the good work. Remember, you can reload on blank forms at www.votehope.wordpress.com . So far, our progress has been incredible, but we can't even slow down for a breath. Keep up the great work!!

Demanding the return of the troops,
the exit of military recruiters in the schools
and the end to the war in Iraq.

Tues. March 25 - Beginning at 8:00 AM

* Start at Palacio Municipal, Tijuana, MX
* Cross the border and continue on San Ysidro Blvd.
* Arrive at Beyer Blvd Trolley Station
* Take trolley to Civic Center Station in National City
* Walk to E. Plaza Blvd., military recruitment offices at Highland and E.Plaza Blvd.
* Continue to Sweetwater High School
* Walk to La Vista Cemetery

* Start at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego (commemoration ceremony)
* Walk up Route 209 to Rosecrans Avenue
* Pass by NTC - Liberty Station
* Walk to MCRD - Barnett Gate
* Continue via Barnett St. to Old Town Transit Center
* Continue up Rosecrans/East Mission Bay Drive
* Arrive at Mission Bay High School.
* Walk with the students to the nearest military recruitment center.
