The documentary, “Rachel Corrie: An American Conscience,” chronicles her humanitarian work with the International Solidarity Movement in Rafah, Gaza Strip, just prior to her murder in March 2003. While Corrie stood in front of a Palestinian home to prevent its demolition, an Israeli soldier in a Caterpillar D-9 bulldozer crushed her.

As you know, a tragedy occurred Wednesday when the I-35W bridge collapsed in Minneapolis. We at Impeach for Peace want to extend our condolences to the victims involved and their families.
Impeach for Peace organizers have struggled with how our organization should respond now that President Bush is planning to visit Minneapolis on Saturday.
We don't want to appear as if we are using this tragedy to our political advantage, nor do we wish for Bush to do so. What we've decided is that we're going to encourage citizens of Minneapolis to protest with the message, "Bridges not Bombs."
We have decided to exclude the concept of impeachment from this protest so as not to disrespect the seriousness of the tragedy with what many see as a partisan issue.

The third annual Greater Brunswick Peace Fair, a participatory, interactive and visual event, will be held on the Brunswick mall on Saturday, August 4th from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. The fair commemorates the beginning of the nuclear age ‹ to remind Mainers of the horror of nuclear war and of all wars, and the urgent task of creating a culture of peace.
Among the activities planned for children, adolescents and adults are poetry readings, art, dancing and singing for children, T¹ai Chi, creating peace dolls, portraits for peace, dances of universal peace, and creating prayer flags.
We will be at this intersection from 10am-12pm, and do not have any plans of moving around within the town limits. I expect to see alot of traffic during the morning and will be holding a large signs that state 'HONK TO IMPEACH' and 'Out of Iraq'.
I will also have a clipboard with many petitions for people that I meet on the sidewalks in Westminster.
To ANYONE that wants to join me, please e-mail me at carrollcountyprogressives@gmail.com and I will get in touch with you about where to park and other plans. Also forward your suggestions to me as well.
I have been in contact with the Town of Hampstead and have received a Public Gathering Permit for this event.
Hopefully you've circled Saturday August 4 on your calendars to come join us on the Brunswick Mall for our Third Annual Peace Fair.
Sheila Garrett will also talk about her peace walks. Marji will offer people a chance to dress peace dolls.
Listed below are the "Conversation Cafe" dialogues that will happen on that day.
11:00 – 11:50 "Iraq War Stories: Military Families Speak Out" Stephanie Slocum, Richard Clement, and Gretchen Kamilewicz, all parents of sons who served in Iraq, will tell their sons' stories about their combat tour in Iraq and their re-entry into civilian life. All three young men now suffer from injuries sustained in war. Stephanie, Richard, and Gretchen will take the conversation in a direction that is most helpful to those in attendance.
12:00 – 12:50 "Election 2008: What is a Peace Voter to Do?" Mary Beth Sullivan from Peaceworks will facilitate a conversation about how to engage responsibly in the 2008 elections process.
Please join us for a show of solidarity for the impeachment and removal from office of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Bring your own signs and messages applicable to our united desire to end this regime.
News flash! John Nichols will be one of our special guests and will speak at our PDA Yearly Kos party.

On February 5, 2007 Voices for Creative Nonviolence launched the Occupation Project, a campaign of sustained nonviolent civil disobedience aimed at ending funding for the U.S. war in and occupation of Iraq. CODEPINK, Declaration of Peace, Veterans for Peace and other national organizations joined in organizing the campaign.
Between February 5 and April 17 (Tax Day), over 320 arrests occurred in the offices of 39 Representatives and Senators. The campaign spread nationally, with campaigns taking place in over 25 states from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon and from Fairbanks, Alaska to Huntsville, Alabama.
Now, as the President seeks another $145 billion to fund the Iraq and Afghanistan wars through September 2008, the Occupation Project campaign is gearing up once again.
On August 6, 2007 a reinvigorated Occupation Project campaign will launch with acts of nonviolent civil disobedience / civil resistance and office occupations occurring through at least the end of September.
The demand of the campaign is simple. Representatives and Senators: Publicly commit to voting against any funding for the Iraq war or we will nonviolently occupy your offices.
We invite your participation and your organization’s endorsement. To become involved with this campaign, please contact us via phone at 773-878-3815 or via e-mail, occupationproject@vcnv.org. We also encourage you to sign up for the project using our sign-up form.

The Southeast Convergence for Climate Action, near Asheville, North Carolina, will bring together activists across the region who are fighting mountaintop removal mining and coal and nuclear power plants. Mountaintop removal coal mining is currently devastating the ecologically diverse southern Appalachian Mountains. The coal companies have literally flattened hundreds of square miles of mountains, destroyed thousands of miles of our life giving streams, and terrorized countless communities in the process. Meanwhile southern utility companies are planning a blitzkrieg of new dirty coal plants, despite our regions already dismal air quality. To add insult to injury these same utility companies are using climate change as a justification for building a new fleet of dangerous nuclear reactors.

Goals of the Climate Convergence
It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the problem of climate change. It's easy to feel that we can't make a difference. Our aim is to overcome feelings of isolation and helplessness by bringing people together to create a community of resistance. We hope the convergence inspires people to take action, share ideas and make a start in their own localities and spheres of interest after the convergence. The goals of the convergence are to:
- Promote a just, rapid transition away from fossil fuels
- Encourage ecologically based, community focused solutions to the climate crisis that foster local autonomy and self-sufficiency
- Promote “environmental justice” by encouraging support for communities and groups that are:
o Fighting dirty energy development in their own backyards
o Likely to or already disproportionately suffer the effects of climate change

Hungry for Justice was formed in April 2007 as an adhoc committee to organize local and national support for the defendants in the Holy Land Foundation Federal trial. We adhere to non-violent principles and affirm the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We will remember & honor the victims, both living & dead, of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki.
About Poison DUst: During the current Iraq War the U.S. use of radioactive DU weapons increased from 375 tons used in 1991 to 2200 tons. Geiger counter readings at sites in downtown Baghdad record radiation levels 1,000 and 2,000 times higher than background radiation. The Pentagon has bombed, occupied, tortured and contaminated Iraq. Millions of Iraqis are affected. Over one million U.S. soldiers have rotated into Iraq. Today, half of the 697,000 U.S. Gulf War troops from the 1991 war have reported serious medical problems and a significant increase in birth defects among their newborn children.
The effects on the Iraqi population are far greater. Many other countries and U.S. communities near DU weapons plants, testing facilities, bases and arsenals have also been exposed to this radioactive material which has a half-life of 4.4 billions years.

We must have no illusions. We must not be naive. If we listen to the voice of God, we make our choice, get out of ourselves, and fight nonviolently for a better world. We must not expect to find it easy; we shall not walk on roses, people will not throng to hear us and applaud, and we shall not always be aware of divine protection. Iraq for Sale is the eighth film in the Washington Peace Center's Cost of War film series.
The story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war. Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed, and Uncovered) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.

THE GROUND TRUTH is a striking and penetrating documentary following several soldiers (now, Iraq Veterans Against the War) through their enlistment, basic training, combat in Iraq and life shattering struggle when they return home.
This film sheds light on aspects of the military institution that recruiters never tell you....It illustrates the endless nightmare that is the occupation of Iraq ...and the brutal experience of combat........Finally you are left with an understanding of the Importance of the growing GI resistance movement and its centrality to our ability to end the occupation of Iraq.

Carl Rising-Moore has asked that we pass along this information.
GW Bush arrived at the Crawford "ranch" on Monday August 13. The duration of his stay is not known, but it is suspected that he is starting his annual summer vacation at that time.
A continued presence near the ranch at the checkpoints is vital.
We feel its our responsibility to continue to stand up with our peaceful protests. Being close to Crawford, we have a unique grassroots opportunity to directly speak truth to power.
If you can spend some time at Camp Casey III, the checkpoint, or in the ditch with Carl, please contact him directly at 317-777-4805.
Transportation will be available from CC III to the checkpoints.
More information may follow on specific actions.

Rally will be followed by an End Of The War parade at 6 pm to City Hall for a 6:30 concert and vigil.
On August 17, 2007 we will have an End Of The War rally and formally declare the end to the war in Iraq and elsewhere.
The event will be complete with a parade, music and poetry mourning the loss and celebrating peace.
This will be an effective and positive event addressing a government refusing to acknowledge the opposition within its citizens as well as its own political parties. If the government won't end the war, why not we the people? After all, we die for it, pay for it, we should at least have the right to end it.
Everyone, young and old, is encouraged to come to this extraordinary event in American history. So bring your friends, bring your family, bring your pets, for a great moment any true patriot can be proud of and never forget.
Speakers & Music TBA - Flyer available at website:
A weekly peace vigil has been held in front of the Mendocino County Court House every Friday night from 5 to 6 pm for the last 5 years. All are welcome to come and join our demonstration. Dignity and respect for others is the only requirement. Bring your own peace signs or borrow ours.

What are the common root causes of the problems we face in the Metro DC area? How can we address these common causes? What are the concrete steps that we can take together here in the DC Metropolitan Area? If you have been wrestling with these questions then you need to be at The Plymouth Congregational Church on Saturday, August 18 from 4pm to 7pm to contribute to uniting our struggles.
The US Social Forum, which took place recently in Atlanta, was a massive gathering of over 15,000 progressive activists from all over the country, including hundreds from the DC metro area. It gave people a chance to connect across all kinds of lines and on just about any issue you can think of. The USSF was powerful because it was led by grassroots activists and was diverse in a very real way.
Please Join us this Saturday, August 18, 11pm, for the The World Can't Wait Film Night, featuring the The Bush Crimes Commission Hearings.
We are proud to be hosted for the 2nd time, by Busboys and Poets, as part of their unique "Focus In! cinema for a conscience community" series.
We urge you to attend, and bring your friends!
(NOTE: For anyone who attended the last screening, come again and bring your friends! Last time we showed a condensed version of excerpts from the hearings-this time we will be showing the entire first dvd, with more in depth, eye-opening testimonies from the hearings.)
Busboys and Poets Productions presents: "FOCUS IN! cinema for a conscious community." Our newest in-house series offers weekly film screenings from both local and international filmmakers focusing on themes of social justice, peace, and community value.

There is a very important meeting to be held in Santa Barbara on August 20th! Mayor Rocky Anderson of Salt Lake City will be coming to our fair town to speak on the topic of Impeachment! Perhaps THIS will be the final straw to move our own City Council to do something around their Oath of Office - to support, defend and protect the Constitution!
We are honored to welcome Mayor Rocky Anderson to our August 20th Townhall Meetup Group! Mayor Anderson is deeply committed to honoring the Rule of Law. He calls for an end to the "illegal, tragic, unconscionable war of aggression, to the kidnapping and torture of human beings" and for a return to American values of decency, the Constitution, and international treaties."
Mayor Rocky Anderson has been an avid supporter of impeachment and has spoken against the illegal invasion of Iraq - all across the country. He has appeared on CNN and debated with Sean Hannity (Fox News) on these critical issues.

Bush/Coleman Minneapolis event protest 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st
Bryant Lake Regional Park Protest Picnic
In the late afternoon of this coming Tuesday, August 21, George W Bush will be the honored guest at a fundraising reception for Senator Norm Coleman at the home of William and Tani Austin at 6641 Beach Road, on the west shore of Bryant Lake, in Eden Prairie, MN.
Have you received your invitation? Perhaps not and perhaps just as well. It costs $1,000 per person to get in the door. If you want a photo-op with W, it will cost you $10,000 per couple at the co-host level, or you can go for the host level at $14,000 per couple. This party is not being organized for ordinary citizens such as you and me. The press is not invited, either. As W once said to a similarly ritzy dinner gathering, "This is an impressive crowd - the haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elites; I call you my base."
Be there at 5:00 PM with Impeach signs! Meeting starts at 5:30 PM.

What: "STOP THE WAR! Start a Revolution of Values" Rally and March for Peace on Saturday, August 25Th, 2007 in Kennebunkport, Maine.
This is a convergence of anti-war, environmental, labor and social justice activists along with concerned citizens. We want to break the cycle of endless war and start a revolution of values. The event is timed to coincide with President Bush's Summer vacation in Kennebunkport at his family's estate. However, we view Bush to be part of a deeper problem and his estate is a symbolic target. So we will march regardless if he is in town or not.
The open mike starts at 10:00 AM; Rally begins at 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM, with speakers and music.
Our speakers will address the need in America for systemic change to break the cycle of endless war. Speakers will include:
- Dennis Kucinich
- Cindy Sheehan
- Ret. Col. Ann Wright
- George Paz Martin, co-chair for United for Peace and Justice
This will be a convergence of anti-war, environmental, labor and social justice activists along with concerned citizens. To break the cycle of endless war we need to draw attention to America's need for systemic change. Let us start a "revolution of values."

STOP the War Against Women at Home & Abroad

against sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia!
Unite against economic exploitation!
Unite to win everything we need!
The U.S. claims “liberation of women” as it bombs & kills women, men, children, & the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, & the world. But U.N. studies show women surviving in Iraq & Afghanistan are far worse of since the Pentagon assaults began.
Inside the U.S. women–most notably Katrina survivors– are losing jobs, housing, health care, day care; are rounded up in immigrant raids & locked up in prison foracts of survival, self-defense & drug addiction; are denied reproductive and economic justice; forced into debt to get an education; raped & battered as domestic shelters are closed down; are losing their loved ones, children & families through police brutality, to the military poverty draft, to racist attacks, gender-phobic attacks, attacks on lesbian, bisexual, transgender & transsexual women.

This September, after hearing the White House‘s report on the "surge," Congress will decide whether we bring our troops home or spend another year fighting an unwinnable religious civil war. As Congress heads back to DC, we're here to tell them that it's time to take a stand.
We're holding candlelight vigils and Town Hall meetings in cities all over the nation on August 28--National Take a Stand Day--to remember the human cost of the war and urge our members of Congress to stand up in September and end this endless war.
Find the phone numbers for the district offices of your members of Congress at: http://www.vote-smart.org
In the past three weeks, many of you have participated in town hall meetings, public forums, and personal meetings with your members of Congress.
Thank you to all who spoke clearly and directly to Representatives and Senators -- calling for ending funding for U.S. military operations in Iraq, and rapidly withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.
These personal visits must now be followed up with dozens of phone calls to your members of Congress - at local district offices (while Congress is in recess until Sept. 4th).
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD! Encourage others to call by forwarding this message.
It is important that your Congresspersons' District offices receive scores of phone calls on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Whether you already met with your Congressperson or not -
This is an invitation to the Los Angeles premiere of "When the Saints Go Marching In" this Tuesday, August 28 at 7pm -- the two year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Robert Greenwald and Brave New Foundation will present an advocacy video for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, who -- two years later -- are still fighting for their homes. Kim Hill, formally of the Black Eyed Peas, will emcee as local politicians, activists, Katrina evacuees and concerned citizens convene at Fais Do Do to watch the short film.
You'll hear testimony from Katrina survivors. Experience surprise musical guests with a genuine New Orleans DJ spinning traditional jazz, consume libations, and sign a petition urging the Senate to pass the Gulf Coast Recovery Bill (S. 1668).
The event is FREE and open to the public (with great New Orleans appetizers!)
ImpeachOk1 just signed up to host a Candle-Light Vigil with MoveOn.org Political Action and Iraq Summer.
The vigils are important because this September, Congress will decide whether we bring our troops home or spend another year fighting an unwinnable religious civil war. As Congress heads back to DC, we’re here to tell them that it’s time to take a stand.
MoveOn is holding candlelight vigils in cities all over the nation on August 28 to remember the human cost of the war and urge our members of Congress to stop pouring billions of dollars into this endless war.
