Hello, to everyone in the Madison community who is fighting for peace and justice: The impeachment coalition is organizing a street theatre event that will raise public awareness of the policies of torture, the human suffering and the violation of national and international laws committed by this administration. We hope to make a powerful visual statement to thousands of people driving to work. We will walk in chains, wear the orange Guantanamo prisoner suits with black hoods and be guarded and subjected by American soldiers in fatigues. We hope to upset commuters'usual morning thoughts and provoke contemplation of these abuses througout the day by an image that they cannot forget, seen three days in a row. After having time to think about torture being carried out in our name, they may be more inclined to take a few minutes of their time to sign a petitition and get involved through contacting local elected officials. Last year, Congressman John Conyers participated in several Detroit townhall meetings in which he promised to the people: if Democrats were to win the elections in November 2006, he would uphold the law and the will of the people and impeach the war criminals currently holding the titles of President and Vice President of the United States of America. In what was widely seen as an indictment of the criminal war of aggression in Iraq and of Bush's policies, Democrats gained the majority in Congress. John Conyers is now the Head of the Judiciary Committee, and holds the power to uphold the law and begin impeachment proceedings. Now, Congressman Conyers refuses to start the impeachment process; he has broken his promises to the people of Detroit, and the world! Start: 12:00

Start time uncertain but it will be afternoon Read the names of all our U.S. dead in Iraq And I will remain in office until the Congressman agrees to return our country to the rule of law by supporting the impeachment of both the President and Vice President. Of course if the Congressman declines to return us to the rule of law, I will gladly allow myself to be escorted off to jail. If we live in a criminal country and decline to do what we can to change it, I believe I belong in jail. I am not asking anyone to join me in the CD aspect of this action, but I would welcome whatever other support could be given. Of course it goes without saying that anyone else sufficiently estranged by their government and wishing to join in the CD would be welcome. Inspiration for this event came from Cindy Sheehan. She will be doing a similar action in House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers' Washington office at the same time. Start: 16:00

As you know, a tragedy occurred Wednesday when the I-35W bridge collapsed in Minneapolis. We at Impeach for Peace want to extend our condolences to the victims involved and their families. Impeach for Peace organizers have struggled with how our organization should respond now that President Bush is planning to visit Minneapolis on Saturday. We don't want to appear as if we are using this tragedy to our political advantage, nor do we wish for Bush to do so. What we've decided is that we're going to encourage citizens of Minneapolis to protest with the message, "Bridges not Bombs." We have decided to exclude the concept of impeachment from this protest so as not to disrespect the seriousness of the tragedy with what many see as a partisan issue. Start: 10:00

The Southeast Convergence for Climate Action, near Asheville, North Carolina, will bring together activists across the region who are fighting mountaintop removal mining and coal and nuclear power plants. Mountaintop removal coal mining is currently devastating the ecologically diverse southern Appalachian Mountains. The coal companies have literally flattened hundreds of square miles of mountains, destroyed thousands of miles of our life giving streams, and terrorized countless communities in the process. Meanwhile southern utility companies are planning a blitzkrieg of new dirty coal plants, despite our regions already dismal air quality. To add insult to injury these same utility companies are using climate change as a justification for building a new fleet of dangerous nuclear reactors. Start: 16:45

(all day)

We will remember & honor the victims, both living & dead, of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki. About Poison DUst: During the current Iraq War the U.S. use of radioactive DU weapons increased from 375 tons used in 1991 to 2200 tons. Geiger counter readings at sites in downtown Baghdad record radiation levels 1,000 and 2,000 times higher than background radiation. The Pentagon has bombed, occupied, tortured and contaminated Iraq. Millions of Iraqis are affected. Over one million U.S. soldiers have rotated into Iraq. Today, half of the 697,000 U.S. Gulf War troops from the 1991 war have reported serious medical problems and a significant increase in birth defects among their newborn children. The effects on the Iraqi population are far greater. Many other countries and U.S. communities near DU weapons plants, testing facilities, bases and arsenals have also been exposed to this radioactive material which has a half-life of 4.4 billions years.

Carl Rising-Moore has asked that we pass along this information. GW Bush arrived at the Crawford "ranch" on Monday August 13. The duration of his stay is not known, but it is suspected that he is starting his annual summer vacation at that time. A continued presence near the ranch at the checkpoints is vital. We feel its our responsibility to continue to stand up with our peaceful protests. Being close to Crawford, we have a unique grassroots opportunity to directly speak truth to power. If you can spend some time at Camp Casey III, the checkpoint, or in the ditch with Carl, please contact him directly at 317-777-4805. Transportation will be available from CC III to the checkpoints. Rally will be followed by an End Of The War parade at 6 pm to City Hall for a 6:30 concert and vigil. On August 17, 2007 we will have an End Of The War rally and formally declare the end to the war in Iraq and elsewhere. The event will be complete with a parade, music and poetry mourning the loss and celebrating peace. This will be an effective and positive event addressing a government refusing to acknowledge the opposition within its citizens as well as its own political parties. If the government won't end the war, why not we the people? After all, we die for it, pay for it, we should at least have the right to end it. Everyone, young and old, is encouraged to come to this extraordinary event in American history. So bring your friends, bring your family, bring your pets, for a great moment any true patriot can be proud of and never forget. Speakers & Music TBA - Flyer available at website:

What are the common root causes of the problems we face in the Metro DC area? How can we address these common causes? What are the concrete steps that we can take together here in the DC Metropolitan Area? If you have been wrestling with these questions then you need to be at The Plymouth Congregational Church on Saturday, August 18 from 4pm to 7pm to contribute to uniting our struggles. The US Social Forum, which took place recently in Atlanta, was a massive gathering of over 15,000 progressive activists from all over the country, including hundreds from the DC metro area. It gave people a chance to connect across all kinds of lines and on just about any issue you can think of. The USSF was powerful because it was led by grassroots activists and was diverse in a very real way. Start: 23:00

There is a very important meeting to be held in Santa Barbara on August 20th! Mayor Rocky Anderson of Salt Lake City will be coming to our fair town to speak on the topic of Impeachment! Perhaps THIS will be the final straw to move our own City Council to do something around their Oath of Office - to support, defend and protect the Constitution! We are honored to welcome Mayor Rocky Anderson to our August 20th Townhall Meetup Group! Mayor Anderson is deeply committed to honoring the Rule of Law. He calls for an end to the "illegal, tragic, unconscionable war of aggression, to the kidnapping and torture of human beings" and for a return to American values of decency, the Constitution, and international treaties." Mayor Rocky Anderson has been an avid supporter of impeachment and has spoken against the illegal invasion of Iraq - all across the country. He has appeared on CNN and debated with Sean Hannity (Fox News) on these critical issues.

More information may follow on specific actions. "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold, is for people of good conscience to remain silent." --Thomas Jefferson. Start: 00:00

Have you received your invitation? Perhaps not and perhaps just as well. It costs $1,000 per person to get in the door. If you want a photo-op with W, it will cost you $10,000 per couple at the co-host level, or you can go for the host level at $14,000 per couple.
