End Gun Violence Now

Gun massacres like Sandy Hook Elementary School are just the tip of the iceberg.

Each year, over 100,000 Americans are shot with a gun. That's 282 each day. Over 30,000 of them die.

This includes over 18,000 American kids - 50 each day -  nearly 3,000 of whom die.

Gun violence destroys individuals, families, and communities. It also creates enormous costs in medical care, criminal justice, security precautions like metal detectors, and reductions in quality of life because of fear of gun violence. These costs total $100 billion each year.

We must end gun madness by passing common-sense gun safety laws.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, now is the time for common sense gun safety laws:

  • Require background checks for all gun buyers by eliminating the gun show loophole.
  • Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. No one needs them for hunting or self-protection, just for mass murder.
  • Repeal "stand your ground" laws used by vigilantes like George Zimmerman to justify the murder of Trayvon Martin.
  • Require "smart gun" technology (like the palm scanner in Skyfall) to prevent thieves or attackers from using stolen guns.
