Condi for President

Everyone is trying to figure out why John Negroponte would take a demotion from Director of National Intelligence - overseeing 16 intelligence agencies with an unlimited budget and zero oversight - to become Condi's #2 at the State Department, which gets as much respect (and funding) under Bush as the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

There's a very simple reason: Karl Rove has chosen Condi Rice to run for President, and he needs to line up her replacement so she can resign in March and begin her campaign - before she has to answer subpoenas from Joe Biden.

You read it here first.

The idea of running Condi isn't new; Dick "Toesucker" Morris wrote a book about it, and talks about it all the time on FOX.

Many believe that the White House is Hillary's to lose, but as longtime strategists Dick Morris and Eileen McGann explain in Condi vs. Hillary, the former first lady's bid for the Oval Office is vulnerable to a challenge from a most unexpected quarter: the Bush administration's brilliant and charismatic secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice.

Of course, Condi has insisted repeatedly that she would never run for President - because she knew she could never beat Hillary, despite Toesucker's wet dreams.

But that was before the great Republican meltdown of 2006, before Hillary moved ahead of Republicans in the polls, and before Obamamania unleashed a powerful force that, when hitched to Hillary's wagon as VP, could be the most powerful Democratic ticket in a generation.

Led entirely by discredited angry white men, the GOP is on the brink of extinction, and there is no one who can ride in on a white horse to save them.

Rudy Giuliani? If Bernie Kerik doesn't bring him down, ex-wife Donna Hanover will - just read Rudy's own stolen memo. (Which of Jeb Bush's covert operatives stole the memo - and will egg-faced Rudy ever find out?)

John McCain? The champion of the "surge" will be blamed personally for every U.S. soldier who is killed between now and Election Day 2008. As John Edwards told George Stephanopoulos, it's the "McCain Doctrine."

Newt Gingrich? He led the "Republican Revolution" that became thoroughly corrupt and was thoroughly rejected by voters - including many angry conservatives - last November. And, like Rudy, he has a few bitter ex-wives too.

Mitt Romney? He was for abortion rights before he was against it. He was for gay marriage before he was against it. And what will Virgil Goode say about a candidate who would swear his oath of office on the Book of Mormon?

Sam Brownback? He might hold his native Kansas by leading a filibuster against stem cell research, but he will lose next-door Missouri and the other 48 states, since Americans support stem cell research funding by 62%-32%.

So who can save the GOP? Until 2000, the only Republican with appeal beyond the GOP base was Colin Powell. But he lost all credibility when he sold the full package of Bush-Cheney Iraq War Lies to the world at the U.N. As Bush once said, "Fool me twice ... you can't get fooled again!"

There is no one left on the Republican bench. The GOP needs a "Hail Mary" pass.

Hail Condi, the GOP's great black hope.

Update 1: Of course, Condi has a few skeletons in her closet: the famous "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States" memo she ignored in the summer of 2001, the famous "We don't want the Smoking Gun to be a Mushroom Cloud" lie that helped sell the Iraq War, and the thousands of dollars she spent on Ferragamo shoes while poor blacks were drowning in New Orleans - not to mention the persistent rumors about her being a lesbian (is that why Harriet Miers is quietly leaving the White House?)

Update 2: BooMan has the scoop on Negroponte's replacement as DNI, J. Michael McConnel, a senior executive at Booz Allen Hamilton, whose spooked-up past goes back to helping Saddam's rise to power. (Did the Busheviks have to keep McConnel's name secret until Saddam was safely dead?)

Oprah and Hillary-Unbeatable!

Please Bob, ask Oprah to run. She's the Veep for Hillary. I'd even watch her show.

I Don't think so. The GOP is

I Don't think so.

The GOP is pretty much over and Hillary will not get a chance to run either, cause she supports the bush/cheney cabal.

and Condi is not gonna win either.

i didn't predict Condi would win,

just that she has been tapped as Karl Rove's hand-picked candidate.

If I were McCain - who thinks he had a deal with Bush to inherit the Karl Rove machine after selling out his principles on torture (and everything else) - I'd be livid - unless Karl and McCain are working together on a plan for Condi to run second in the GOP primaries and run as his VP, making it Clinton/Obama v. McCain/Rice.

Let them

bring her on. She would be very beatable -- especially if the election is not taken over by electronic voting machine hacks because she and the resident are one and the same. She has never done anything but mouth support for his disastrous policies. Have you noticed the crooked smile -- the curl of the lips, not quite as bad as Dick Morris -- he does it from both sides of his mouth -- she does just one side. But then, Karl Rove and Bushistas are in a sinking ship anyway. Just hopefully they'll go down without taking all of us with them.

Hahaha! I'm still laughing at Rove

Do republicans still listen to him after the defeat the GOP suffered in Nov?

As far as a race between Hillary and Rice is concerned, it looks like a republican would win.

If by some strange turn of events Hillary and Condi are both nominated, I estimate the voter turnout would be under 30% -- and most of those would be Republicans.

As long as Liberal Democrats can make gains in both Houses of Congress, I don't really care whether a Republican, or a Republican-Lite occupies the Oval Office for a maximum of four years (maybe). The 2012 elections should prove to be extremely interesting.

Bill Clinton sleeping in the WH again

I think democrats might get behind that one.

COME ON DOWN CONDI, I'M JUST WAITING FOR YOU

I sure hope she is not counting on the black vote

It's all about Condi

White House Chess

Stephen Pizzo has another interesting prediction on why Negroponte would take a job seemingly so below his "Peter Principle".

Never! Negroponte quits as head of one of the most important and powerful posts in government, a job that puts him face to face with the President of the United States every morning, of everyday of the week, to accept a position as Rice's assistant?

Fat chance.

So what's up? Here's what I think is up -- and if I were Bush I would be itching to get on with the game.

Move 1: Announce what the administration knows will be a very unpopular decision to send more troops to Iraq.

Move 2: Let the Democrat-controlled Congress throw a fit and hold hearings the administration knows will stir up additional opposition and shake loose new damning information on the administrations march to war and mismanagement of that war.

Move 3: Just when all the above is hitting the fan, Dick Cheney announces he is retiring from office early due to “health concerns," and because he does not want to be "a distraction" when he is called to testify in purjury trial of his former No. 2. Scooter Libby.

Move 4: The next day Bush announces he will nominate Condoleezza Rice to replace Cheney.

Move 5: At the same time Bush announces he is nominating Negroponte to replace Rice as Secretary of State.

The above series of moves makes political sense on so many levels that I consider it inevitable. Think about it:

hex on clinton

actually, the unstopable democratic ticket would not have clinton in it at all. It's not even that she's a woman that would cause her to loose the race but just the fact that she is Hillary Clinton.

The perfect ticket would be Al Gore and Barak Obama, I mean, it's obvious right?

Actually Soclib80, Hillary would not necessarily lose...

(note that I used lose instead of loose)the election. Hillary's major problem with most of us is that the Repugnants used to call her the STEEL MAGNOLIA and her efforts to date as a Senator have showed her to be more of a tinfoil pansy.

I can understand your comments since you are a Libertarian. A bit out of your own baliwick are you not?

Our job as Dems is to choose a candidate that can get the job done once elected. We are a long way from the primary at this point.

The repugnants would dearly love to get Gore to run again. They already have their playbooks written to cut him down. Hillary is still a question mark. She has developed a very healthy cash balance however...and that is to her credit.

Bush will never be impeached

Bush will not be impeached. If we try to impeach Bush, then we will want to include Cheney.
Who's next in line? Nancy Pelosi! No one wants Pelosi to run our country.
The only logical solution is to impeach Bush only. The important thing is to send a message to our government.

Impeachment does not remove

Don't confuse Impeachment with removal from office. Bush could easily be impeached by the House and still not removed from office, just like Clinton. It takes 60 Senate votes to convict and remove the sitting president after the House votes to impeach. Bush and Cheney could easily be impeached with the current House but would never be convicted in the Senate.

"We need a President that is fluent in at least ONE language."

No chance for either one

I just can't see either Hillary or Condi in the upcoming presidential race for a number of reasons. I think it is obvious that Americans are still hesitant to elect a woman as president in spite of the fact that Nancy Pelosi is now Speaker of the House. How many people truly realize that as Speaker she is 3rd in line for the Presidency?

Hillary Clinton is still one of the most feared and hated people by the right wing of the GOP. Her nomination would bring unprecedented contributions to the Republican candidate regardless of who they nominate. Regardless of how much she is despised by them, to get the Dem nomination she would have to shed a freight train full of baggage. From her perceived flippancy regarding Bill's indiscretions to her failure to own her erroneous voting record on Iraq coupled with her poor showing as a Senator will add considerable weight to that baggage.

Condoleezza Rice has the added handicap of being of African-American decent. While her heritage has not created a great deal of problems for her becoming Secretary of State it sure as hell won't endear her in the GOP stronghold called the "South". Look at the devastating ramifications from the infamous "Harold Ford and the blond" ad in the Tennessee Senatorial campaign if you don't believe me on this one. As for the "GOP great black hope" I would think that their black Republican poster boy J. C. Watt would be a better candidate then Condi.

Condi has her share of baggage as well. The earlier mentioned bin Laden report that she reluctantly named then lamely dismissed as not clear enough plus her numerous faux pas' in England, Lebanon, Germany and elsewhere will make easy attack ads for 527 committees that will surely be out in force next year.

I certainly agree that the GOP does not have a viable candidate to win in 2008 but I just cannot agree that Condi is an alternative. They would be much better staying true to course and finding a solid reliable semi-conservative white male to at least maintain their base. While none of the current prospects look electable, there's still 22 months before the '08 elections and lots of prospects floating around GOP pool. Chuck Hagel has denied that he would run but not very strongly. With the recent death of Jerry Ford and all the press he has received a Republican with a Ford-like image could go far in healing that party.

The Dems on the other hand have several acceptable alternatives to Hillary. Wes Clark and John Edwards did quite well in '06 and came through with far less tarnish than Kerry or Gore. Gore is very popular with Dems but showed his true metal when he gave up far too easily in '02. The swing votes will never support him. Kucinich has great ideas and a popular voting record but he presents even worse than Dennis Hastert. The Dems success in '08 is not just dependant on who we present, but how we handle the next two years of a Democrat controlled Congress.

The next two years are going to be very interesting indeed. Or maybe this is just the ramblings of a recent Head Injury and I am totally off base. Regardless, I am back and thank you to everyone that has wished me well in my recover, even those that belabored my obvious hard headedness.
