Cheney Asked Bush to Pardon Scooter Libby
When conservative journalists asked Dick Cheney whether he asked George Bush to pardon his former top aide, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Cheney dodged the question, saying
“the question of a pardon really falls in the President’s purview and his alone” – but emphatically pronounced himself a “huge fan of Scooter’s. He’s an extraordinarily able individual.”
Obviously Cheney did ask Bush to pardon Scooter, just as he asked Bush to commute his sentence before he went to jail. Cheney just doesn't want to admit his request, because he's committing obstruction of justice by encouraging Libby to lie to Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald about Cheney's role in outing Valerie Plame.
No doubt Cheney also asked Bush to pardon Cheney and Bush himself, along with everyone else in the administration who committed crimes at their request.
In the interview, Cheney also provided more details on the alleged intelligence acquired through torture:
“For a few senior al Qaida officers we captured early on, some of whom were subject to enhanced interrogation,” Cheney said, “we produced a wealth of information for us… a basic database about al Qaida: where they trained, who their people were, where their finances came from. This program was one of the reasons we were able to understand the basic intelligence about al Qaida.”
Other officials insist the information acquired through torture was either acquired earlier without torture, or useless information provided just to stop the torture.
