Candidate FAQ: Will Democrats.com Support My Campaign?
Democrats.com wants to help Democratic candidates, but we must do so within the law.
Here's what we cannot do:
- Democrats.com is not a PAC so we cannot contribute money to campaigns. (We created ImpeachPAC in 2005 but closed it in 2007).
- We have a strict rule against fundraising on Democrats.com so we cannot ask our readers to contribute to a campaign, nor can we allow candidates or their supporters to post messages on our site for contributions.
Here's what we can do:
- We can let you post forum topics about your campaign, as long as you respect our readers and reply honestly to their comments (login required)
- If you are running for Congress, we can let you send internal emails to our readers who live in your district, as long as you respect our readers and honor their remove requests
- If you are running for a state-wide office, you can rent our list of activists who live in your state
- We can post front-page blogs about candidates who use their campaigns to fight for the issues we care about most, including getting out of Iraq asap, impeaching Cheney and Bush, ending torture, and fully restoring the Constitutional rights that George Bush has destroyed (habeas corpus, wiretapping, etc.)
- We can point you to a great list of progressive PACs which might give you money
