The CA Dem Party: What Is It Good For?
By David Swanson
I've followed the struggles of progressives within the California Democratic Party from the opposite coast and admired their achievements but wondered about their limitations. They're the first to pass resolutions opposing wars, but for the most part their members in Congress vote to fund the wars just the same. I'd rather have a party that "supported" wars but didn't fund them, if that option were available. I'd rather have a brand new party, if that were possible. But, given the dominance of the Democratic Party, passing progressive resolutions and working to someday elect progressive representatives looks like an admirable project, and -- at least from afar -- one imagines that it must be having an impact in Sacramento if not yet in Washington.

Economic Recession
The Dems should put forth a plan, a credible plan to restore the economy. This would include public jobs to replace the 5 million lost since December 2007, the 7.8 million needed to maintain employment at 4.9%, and the additional 7.5 million jobs needed to create FULL EMPLOYMENT. A fair economy should be the keystone to a revived Democratic Party. Today 1% of the U.S. households own 33.4%, ten percent own 70% of all wealth, the bottom half own ?? !! 2.5% of all savings, wealth, or net worth. The top 1% earn annually more than the bottom 60%. How can the Democratic Party dream of being relevant to voters if they are not going to confront this disasster of an economy?
Why I Voted For Obama
i voted for obama because I'm sick of republicans always getting their way. even when the democrats took over the house and senate, they were still too weak in a majority to get anything REAL pushed through and when they did it was vetoed by the president. also, im sick of the neoconservative/conservative policies that have been in place. two terrible wars, an economy in the shitter, and a citizenry that is pissed off. if so many of the american people have realized that the republican policies of the last 8 years havnt been working, wouldnt it be logical to try the opposite?
Freedom of Speech, Employment, Economy
The Idea
Or, as some Republicans say, the very idea!
Even if you are retired, you'll probably be interested in this proposal: The idea is simple enough. Next time you look for a job, replace your resume with an application that asks the prospective employer for last year's turnover rate, a short history of how the managers got their jobs and, of course, the names of some expert references on the employer; the former employees. Think of the time and money you'll save. Think of how many more options you'll have.
Can we meet up to help Russ Warner defeat David Dreier in CA Dist 26?
David Dreier has been a shameless rubber stamp for Bush for the past seven years and shameless hypocrite on gay issues. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Dreier) His district is the closest one to Los Angeles that is held by a Republican. If you live elsewhere in the L.A. area, your district is safe. Do you want to help take the fight a little bit to the east?

Iraq Town Hall Meeting?
Any town hall meetings set up for Long Beach?
Barbara Boxer
As far as I have seen, Barbara Boxer is a fine Senator with guts and chutzpah to do the right thing. I have never been so glad I voted for any elected official as I have for Barbara Boxer. Undoubtedly her seat will be heavily targeted in the upcoming election because the Republicans would love to gat rid of someone with her courage, honesty and verve. Support her re-election! We can't afford to lose her.
