Bush Pleads Guilty to Second Impeachable Offense

Legal scholars like John Dean, Jonathan Turley, and Glenn Greenwald have highlighted Bush's "guilty plea" on violating the FISA law at least 30 times. Amazingly, Bush also "pled guilty" today to a second impeachable offense - lying to Congress about the need to invade Iraq!

When Bush declared war on Iraq on 3/19/03, he cited Congress' Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. That resolution required Bush to certify two conditions to Congress, and he did:

(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic and other peaceful means alone will neither (A) adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq nor (B) likely lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

Of course we know Iraq never posed any threat to the United States because Iraq had no WMD's - and Bush knew it at the time. But if Bush truly was uncertain about any WMD threat from Iraq, reliance on "further diplomatic or other peaceful means" - namely the U.N. inspectors combing every military and presidential facility in Iraq - would certainly have "adequately protect[ed] the national security of the United States." But Bush hasn't pled guilty to this count - at least not yet.

(2) acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Did Iraq "plan, authorize, commit, or aid the terrorist attacks" of 9/11?

Not according to Bush!!

BUSH: The terrorists attacked us and killed 3,000 of our citizens before we started the freedom agenda in the Middle East.

QUESTION: What did Iraq have to do with it?

BUSH: What did Iraq have to do with what?

QUESTION: The attack on the World Trade Center.

BUSH: Nothing. Except it’s part of — and nobody has suggested in this administration that Saddam Hussein ordered the attack. Iraq was a — Iraq — the lesson of September 11th is take threats before they fully materialize, Ken. Nobody’s ever suggested that the attacks of September the 11th were ordered by Iraq.

So now that Bush has confessed to a second impeachable offense, will Nancy Pelosi put impeachment back on the table?

I would just like to point

I would just like to point out another clause in the Resolution of 2002:

Whereas the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-338) expressed the sense of Congress that it should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove from power the current Iraqi regime and promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime;

This nifty little bit of PNAC legislation was written and sponsored by none other than: Joe Loserman, and John McCain back in 1998. This was when PNAC and the DLC were attempting to get Bill Clinton to attack Iraq, and GHWB before that.

If that is not at least circumstantial proof of premeditation by these crooks, I'll eat my hat...

So far

So far that seems to be going well, don't you think? Now if we could just get Bush to bring democracy to the USA, the world would be a better place.

A new nickname for Dubya.

With all that has happened in the world since Junior made his "axis of evil" comment, possibly the dumbest thing a President ever said, followed up by his invasion of Iraq, where we now understand that the sort of statecraft practiced by Saddam Hussein, though certainly not benevolent, was arguably necessary to hold that country together, maybe we should start to call our President "Pandora."
