Bush is Losing and the Terrorists are WinningThe Busheviks like to reduce the War on Terror to its simplest possible terms: are we winning or are the terrorists? How many times have they (especially Bush, Cheney, and Tony Snow) attacked Democrats for taking some action that will "help the terrorists?" Well now it's official: the terrorists are winning.
Of course the Busheviks always have someone to blame, so they are pointing the finger at Musharraf. But the Busheviks have had exactly one policy towards Pakistan for the past 6.5 years - to keep Musharraf in power at all costs. Remember how the reason for our invasion of Iraq morphed from "disarming" Saddam (who had nothing to disarm) from promoting "democracy"? Remember all the purple Iraqi fingers? Of course Bush adamantly refused to promote "democracy" in Pakistan, where Musharraf has ruled as an absolute dictator. But Musharraf's dictatorship is a miserable failure. On the one hand, he allowed Al Qaeda and the Taliban to prosper in the tribal regions. On the other hand, Islamists in the major cities are trying to kill him. And lurking in the shadows is A.Q. Khan and his nuclear bombs - and three plants that make plutonium, the deadliest substance on the planet. If Musharraf falls - which seems inevitable if current trends continue - will Islamists get nuclear weapons and plutonium? With Bush and Cheney in the White House, we really are heading for Armageddon. We must impeach them both now.

So much is at stake
This newest report confirms something that has been becoming more and more apparent over the last several months; not only is the war in Iraq not accomplishing anything positive, it is actually making us worse off than before. This is true not only because it is making us less safe and is costing millions of dollars and thousands of lives but also because it is drawing attention away from other areas which have a real potential to help people. For example, the fight against global poverty, as conceived of in the UN's Millennium Development goals is one of the most promising and critical issues of our time. But it is lacking critical political and economic support in the US because the war in Iraq is sucking resources and attention away from everything else.
