Bush Accidentally Reveals GOP Campaign Message for 2008

The Democratic and Republican parties are complete organizational opposites, which makes it hard for Democrats to understand what Republicans are doing.

The Democratic Party is a franchise operation - anyone can come along and run on the Democratic Party line, as long as they come up with their own financing.

The Republican Party is a top-down corporation - to run for office, you have to get "hired" by the corporate bosses. They provide the funding, the staff, the ads, and the talking points - you just go out and repeat it ad nauseum.

Of course neither party has chosen its 2008 presidential candidate yet. On the Democratic side, that means anything could happen. It also means the campaign plan will not be written until the candidate is chosen.

But that's not true on the Republican side - they already have their plan written. And on Friday, a reporter managed to trick George Bush into revealing one key element: the main campaign message and points of attack. I added (numbers) to highlight them.

Q Mr. President, for Republicans seeking election next year are you an asset or a liability?

THE PRESIDENT: Strong asset. (Laughter) …Look, candidates who go out and say that (1) the United States is vulnerable to attack and we're going to make sure our professionals have the tools necessary to protect us are going to do well. Candidates who go out and say that (2) helping these Iraqis realize the benefits of democracy are going to do well. Candidates who go out and say that it's very important for the United States to have (3) clear principles when it comes to foreign policy, they'll do well. Candidates who say (4) we're not going to raise your taxes will do well.

So whoever is the GOP nominee, here's how these core messages will be turned into attacks on the campaign trail:

(1) Terrorists want to kill us so our military and our spies and our secret police must have limitless powers OR DEMOCRATS WILL HELP THE TERRORISTS KILL US.

(2) Iraqi Democracy is threatened by terrorists so we must keep all our troops in Iraq OR DEMOCRATS WILL HELP THE TERRORISTS KILL IRAQIs.

(3) The U.S. is good and the rest of the world is evil, so we must maintain full-powered imperialism OR DEMOCRATS WILL HELP EVIL PEOPLE RULE THE WORLD.

(4) Taxes suck so we must make tax cuts for the rich permanent OR DEMOCRATS WILL TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY AWAY.

These messages should not sound new, because they aren't - Bush used exactly those messages in 2004, especially during prime time at the Republican Convention.

Why the repetition? Because these are the messages that motivate the Republican Base. They don't like new ideas and they don't like complicated ideas.

The Democratic Party and John Kerry were not prepared to answer these messages in 2004. Will the Democrats and our nominee be prepared in 2008?

I wouldn't count on it.

Messages that motivate the republican base

DEMOCRATS WILL HELP EVIL PEOPLE RULE THE WORLD! The republican Bohemian Club is EVIL and they are trying to RULE THE WORLD. The last time I posted the Bohemian Club on this site it was made to sound like it was a joke about nekked people (like it was a redneck club).... Maybe we need to focus on the message I'm trying to send to the religious people that still believe bush is close to God. Its not what we Democrat's know about the TRUTH but what message we send. Every Democrat, especially religious leaders should send a simple message (Bob's correct, they live on simple ideas / lies; like Iraq was behind 911, no new taxes. not fit for command, etc) Don't DEBATE my message! Do something!!CONSTANTLY tell every religious person you know about the Bohemian Club. Keep it simple and ask them to Google "Bohemian Club". We owe it to the republican religious base to let them know about the Bohemian Club so they can see the TRUTH about bush and God. Destroy the base, destroy the bush republican white house FOREVER.

You are not the first to

You are not the first to post about the Bohemian Club on Democrats.com, and I seriously doubt that anyone who regularly reads this blog is unaware of their existence. The Skull and Bones Society, the Masons, and Opus Dei, are among other organizations which garner regular Internet-driven "conspiracy" posts. The fact that wealthy and powerful Republican politicians in general have unusual sexual habits, and are prone to corruption, is apparent to most thinking Americans.

The bottom line is that we really don't need to focus on these, and similar, "conspiracy theories" as much as we need to point out the actual results of the neoconservative traitors who are currently running this country.

The actual state of the US economy for Middle Americans, the corporate-driven war on terror, the health insurance crisis, our crumbling infrastructure, the gradual loss of Civil Rights, and the decay of our Constitution -- these are the real issues which voters are (or should be) concerned about.
