When the polls close, we urge Democrats across the country to gather outside their County Election Office for a candlelight vigil to Count Every Vote, all wearing the same color: Blue.

Imagine a Blue Revolution, every bit as joyous and historic as the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, the Cedar Revolution Lebanon, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, and the other democratic revolutions of recent years - right here in the United States of America.

Help us organize a vigil in your county - just create a new Forum Topic coded "Blue Revolution," select "County," post the location of your County Election Office, and spread the word to your friends. More details below...

Should we start a Blue Revolution across the USA on Election Night to stop Republicans from stealing Election 2006?

This Congressional election has witnessed vastly more local polling than ever before, and every poll points to the same result: Democrats will win more than the 15 seats we need to win the House of Representatives, and we are ahead or tied in the 6 seats we need to win the Senate.

These polls are not isolated local phenomena, but are part of a national tidal wave visible in every national poll.

* Voters prefer "generic" Democrats over Republicans by nearly 20%, which is the largest gap in the history of polling. When Newt Gingrich's Republican Revolutionaries seized 54 seats in 1994, they had a "generic" gap of only 7 points.

* George Bush's approval rating is below 40% in every poll, well below Bill Clinton's mid-40's approval rating in 1994.

* The approval rating for the Republican-run Congress is down to 16%, the lowest in history. Voters - including many Republicans - say they want Democrats to run Congress.

* Every poll shows the dominant issue in this election is the disastrous war in Iraq. Voters blame George Bush and the Republican Party for this disaster and they want to change the course, not stay the course. Bush's claim that he never said "stay the course" is destroying his last shred of credibility.

Yet despite this overwhelming polling evidence, George Bush - along with Dick Cheney and Karl Rove - adamantly insist that Republicans are going to win on November 7.

What do they know that we don't know?

As time runs out for an October Surprise, there's only one possibility: that they have rigged the election process to guarantee Republicans win.

How can they rig the process? We all know they can hack electronic voting machines with a screwdriver, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

They can purge Democrats from the voter rolls (make sure you're still registered at MyDem.com), trash Democratic registrations and absentee ballots, leave Democratic candidates' names off the ballots or make the ballots too confusing to use, stuff Republican absentee ballots at county offices, send too few machines or paper ballots to Democratic precincts, move precincts so voters can't find them, pre-punch paper ballots so they register "overvotes," demand photo ID's at the polls, deny provisional ballots or refuse to count them, rig the vote-counting machines, etc. etc. etc.

This list is not imaginary. Republicans committed these crimes and more in Florida in 2000, in Georgia in 2002, and in Ohio in 2004. They have been thoroughly documented on web sites, in books, and in films. But since George Bush controls the Justice Department, none of these crimes have been investigated or prosecuted. And that means there is nothing to stop Republicans from doing all of these things again this year - in spades. BradBlog has caught them red-handed several times already!

That's why Bush, Cheney, and Rove are so confident. And that's why we must do everything we can to stop them.

Democratic and progressive activists are doing an incredible amount of work to Get Out The Vote and try to ensure a Democratic victory, and we enthusiastically support all of these efforts. We also support the BradBlog/PDA petition urging emergency paper ballots in every state.

But there's one more thing we'd like to ask you to do after all of the votes have been cast.

It's quite simple really. But for it to work, thousands of us would have to participate.

When the polls close, we propose that Democrats across the country gather outside their County Election Office for a candlelight vigil to Count Every Vote, all wearing the same color: Blue.

Imagine a Blue Revolution, every bit as joyous and historic as the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, the Cedar Revolution Lebanon, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, and the other democratic revolutions of recent years - right here in the United States of America.

We've done this before with the leadership of Moveon:

Gathering outside County Election Offices is crucial because that's where our votes are counted.

In some counties, they simply tally the results from counts in each precinct. In some counties, they count the absentees at the county office and add them to the precinct tallies. In the remaining counties, they tally all the absentees and ballots at the county office. They also review provisional ballots to determine which will be counted. And if a race is close enough to require a re-canvass or recount, it is done there.

If Republicans plan to steal the November elections, most of their thievery would be at the county level because that's where large numbers of votes can either be shifted from Democrats to Republicans, or Democratic ballots thrown out, or fraudulent Republican ballots manufactured. And it's just as likely to happen in "red" counties where Democratic lawyers aren't watching as in "blue" counties where they are.

A crowd of Democrats outside County Election Offices might not be able to detect or stop a Republican election stealing plan. But at a minimum we would send an extremely powerful message to George Bush, the Republican Party, the corporate media, and the world: that we're watching and prepared to do whatever it takes - peacefully of course - to make sure every vote counts.

If we gathered together on Election Night, we can also do valuable organizing work like collecting a list of Election Day problems (mechanical, administrative, and otherwise) and blogging what we find. We can volunteer if a manual recount is required in close races. We can plan local campaigns to replace electronic machines with hand-counted paper ballots, which might be a very popular idea if your county's election goes badly.

And if our votes are honestly counted and we win, we can have the biggest outdoor party in American history - and start planning to work with Congressional Democrats to restore Democracy, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights in America.

If you like this idea, please vote with your keyboard. Login here (provide your address so we can find your County) and click the "Local" link in the menu to see if someone has already started organizing in your county. If not, then create a new Forum Topic. For "Category," choose "Blue Revolution" in both Democrats.com Forums and Topics. In the "Local" box be sure to click "County." In the subject line, put "Election Night." And in the body post the street address of your County Election Office with a link to your favorite mapping site, the time polls close in your state, and any advice you can offer on public transportation and parking. If you want to share your name and email address or offer a ride, that will help.

After the logistics are established, everyone who wants to participate should post a reply, perhaps with the number of family members and friends you plan to bring, and signs you plan to carry, and the neighborhood you're coming from if you can offer a ride. Extra candles, American flags, posterboard, and magic markers are always welcome.

We'll soon be able to track events across the country through a single link: BlueRevolution.us

As I wrote above, the idea is simple - but it only works if you embrace the idea and make it happen.

Shall we make history on November 7?

It's hard to apply that in Oregon where we have voting by mail, but for the rest of the country, it's a great idea.

of course even in Oregon the mail-in ballots are run through a scanner which can be hacked...

Bill Bradbury is an excellent Democratic Secretary of State but who runs each county - especially the red counties in the east?

Yeah Bob, but here in Oregon...

the vote count is at the local county level...and there are always crowds of people in the room watching the activity. This is always done publically here, not locked away in some dark basement.

And, voter participation is way up over the old methods. Cost-savings over the precinct methods. And, all ballots are the equivilent of absentee.

No apparent problems have shown up after several years so far...except some years the results at the state level come in slowly from the counties.

Plus, everyone's ballot is paper and pencil for a permanent record. Works for us and both major parties are happy with it--Dems a bit more than Repugnants.

Maybe we don't have the voting problems other places do. But we should be somewhere together so we can plan what to do if other places do have problems. It also makes the point known we plan to make sure Oregon doesn't ever have any voting problems.

This is the best plan I've seen yet. No reason we shouldn't take part, too.

Something that has always bothered me in all the states I've lived in, is using pencil at the voting booths.

Can't your vote be changed very easily with pencil? I always brought my own black ink pen. I hope it still counted.

In Oregon, I have seen no complaints from Dems...

what carping is done charging voter fraud comes entirely from the Repugs...the reason for that is that they havent figured a way to gerrymander the results. Oh yeah, there are no exit polls here which sends all the wanna be journalists to other states. Ummm, Florida/Ohio come to mind.

.....in addition to all the reasons Grinch gave, my district in Multnomah County VERY blue. Shortly before the 2004 election Bush came to Portland for a big fund raiser followed by a rally in Pioneer Square. I was riding the MAX (transit train) on the way to work (swing shift) and saw a bunch of people wearing Bush pins waiting to board. So I started chanting "Regime change! Regime change!" Before I knew it almost everyone on the train was chanting with me, and the Bushies wouldn't even board the train because they were afraid.

I think I can say that Congressman Wu's seat in the house is secure, and neither of our Senators are up this year.

What? You Mean Republicans Were AFRAID of Democrats?

That's one of the insidious by-products of instilling fear against the "enemy." First "the enemy" was the perpetrators of 911 (the vast majority citizens of our ally, Saudi Arabia, and whose royal relatives and notables GWB ordered spirited away from the US as our national airspace was in lockdown), then it was the Afghanis, then it was Saddam, then it was Usama Bin Laden, then it was those who resisted pre-emptive war, then it was ... and on, and on, and on.

And now, some Republicans are so fearful that they are afraid to board a train full of of people with a different political philosophy than their own?

And what would the headline be? "Crazed Democrats Accost Law-Abiding Republicans"? LOL!

"I am certain that my fellow Americans expect that on my induction into the Presidency I will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our people impel. This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

...Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. The joy and moral stimulation of work no longer must be forgotten in the mad chase of evanescent profits. These dark days will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be ministered unto but to minister to ourselves and to our fellow men.

Recognition of the falsity of material wealth as the standard of success goes hand in hand with the abandonment of the false belief that public office and high political position are to be valued only by the standards of pride of place and personal profit; and there must be an end to a conduct in banking and in business which too often has given to a sacred trust the likeness of callous and selfish wrongdoing. Small wonder that confidence languishes, for it thrives only on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection, on unselfish performance; without them it cannot live.

Restoration calls, however, not for changes in ethics alone. This Nation asks for action, and action now."--President Franklin D. Roosevelt, First Inaugural Address, 1933

(Sorry, I think I'm posting this in the wrong place, but I can't figure the system out and I only have three minutes or so.)

OK, here's the thing: I think the vigils are a great idea, and I think signs would be great. Maybe candles too. But I don't think we should wear blue. I don't think we should make it about us and them. It IS about us and them, but I think we should put that aside for the moment and assume that all ordinary Americans want fair elections. Otherwise I'm concerned we'll just look snotty and get people's backs up, which we seem to do just by breathing anyway.

Peace,

tseving, Yeah, vote by mail really has eased our burden in...

Oregon. Saved us a lot of grief. Other states should do the same. Its really nice to sit down at the table and take the time to read the voter's booklets(2 this year)and then mark your ballots. Sort of puts intelligence back into voting. Our voter turnout has been much greater since we went to vote by mail. Since I live in a small city(K-Falls), Ijust buzz downtown and drop the ballot into the drop box at the county building.

I sorta shake my head at all the states with all their voting problems...vote by mail eliminates the problems.

tseving, we had a glitch here in K-Falls over the booklets...

I received the 2nd booklet a week ago. Then a couple of days later, the ballots. No booklet #1. Called the Post Office and asked if they had gone out. The guy said yeah, they had. Told him I hadn't gotten mine yet and did they have any extras. He said no, someone threw all the extras away. He was a repug. He gave me a number to call at our new county building downtown to see if they had copies...I called and they did. Ran down and got one. Have already voted. Strange that the PO would throw away extra books before a national election. Really strange.

Slavery existed.
Genocide occurred.
Crusades were fought.

I was not speaking to that. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought you were making a thinly veiled attempt to attack the Democratic notion that a particular aspect of race matters a tad.

For example, I do not wish to get between those debating specifics, but I reject categorically the notion that some are not due a nod: Those who grew up being considered N######, while hearing their grandparents speak of lynching and slavery, all in a Nation who had it codified in the law that they were second class citizens, that they could not attend a host of schools, beaches, restaurants, restrooms, water fountains, etc. In other words, any older black person and at least a respectful debate over Affirmative Action for them.

------

Of course America has done an enormity of good. Less so recently and this is born out by our brain drain to more modernized Nations.

A return to Americanism and away from Banana Republic Policies would change even this.

So you also fall for profiling because those who think for you tell you that the counter argument has to do with hurting someones feelings or causing some reasonable discomfort for a few for the good of the many.

The counter argument has to do with different time scales than the argument FOR profiling (which is reasonable for a single time frame).

If you continue to send America down the third world route why not just leave now?

For the past several weeks I've had a growing feeling that we are being set-up. Bush's pronouncements on the war, his stumping even in areas where the RNC has given up, all this to have some handy justification for polls gone awry. Even the timing plays into this, if it's last minute the polls can't capture the impact Bush's efforts have made, right? Then there was Karl Rove's comments on NPR, an admission that the fix is in. And this morning on NPR "we will still win, no matter what the polls say".

Spreading the word is important; we can't get caught by surprise. If we've gained nothing else from the past three elections, we should at least be on top of this. Has anyone been in contact with Robert Kennedy Jr.?

REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO VOTE AGAINST JOHN BOEHNER IN THIS ELECTION!

Regulate NPO's to stop havens of war racketeers

These NeoCON warmongering hoodlums have abused NPO (NON-Profit Organization) laws to conspire war-mongering in NON-Profit Organizations. These warhawks are hiding their mass murderous plots in havens with the same NPO guidelines that regulate Boy Scouts and Candy-Stripers! The original reason for NPO laws were for charities and community services, not as a haven for murder conspirators and racketeers. These horrible war plots such as the Iraq War were born in the NPO of the "Project of the New American Century" (PNAC). They should not be covered by NPO laws when they are violating conspiracy and RICO (Racketeering Laws!)

One of the first priorities of the Blue Revolution should be that war conspirators (PNAC) and racketeers (such as Jack Abramoff) can no longer use NPO's to conduct their war crime conspiracies and money laundering.

Be careful to follow the laws for your state and county for this one. Starting this election, citizen journalists—people like you and I—will document problems as they occur. We'll play them online, spread word through blogs and partner websites, doing our part to make sure the full story of our elections is told.

A very minor victory of sorts here in Klamath Falls, OR...

we have had minor peoblems with the destruction, theft, or defacing of political signs here in Kalamity Flats over the years. Yeah, this is a 'Red State' stronghold.

Just got an email this morning from one of the officials in our local Peace Forum and member of the Democratic Central Committee stating that a man was caught defacing and stealing our Democratic candidates signs in several areas of town. He not only was caught, he was arrested and hauled to the hoosecow by the police. He has been charged under the current election laws that pertain to his activities.

Instead of going to jail however, he has agreed to take out an ad in one of the local papers explaining what he has been doing, explaining what laws he broke, and telling everyone in his party that this activity will not be tolerated.

He is a local Repug activist, a member of the school board, and a staunch so-called christian.

In my mind, might be better to just burn the guy at the stake...but maybe the rest of the signs will last until the votes are counted.

Maybe a few people will think about things and switch parties on the ballots.

A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.

(Sorry, this is a repeat post. The first time I posted in the wrong place.)

Peace,
raksha

A better idea is to go inside the county building and watch them count the votes.

I voted Straight Democrat absentee, which gives me License to speak. I hope I am wrong but, from all I can gather from all the common folk I talk to the Democrat Party is in deep trouble. It is 5:24 PM, we shall see if I am hopefully wrong

I would have thought that in all of Los Angeles County more than just me and my friend Scott would show up for the vigil at the County Election Office in Norwalk. Too bad the word didn't get out sooner.

Well, LA people, you can still join us every Sunday for our vigil in Whittier on the corner of Whittier Blvd. and Painter at 1PM. We guarantee that more than 2 people will show up.
