BetrayUsReport Day 1
Click to Tell Congress they must impeach Bush and Cheney if the Petraeus Report is fraudulent.

The bottom line: Gen. Betrayus demands another 6 months - one Friedman Unit, or F.U. And after that F.U.? Gen. Betrayus will want another F.U. And another. And another - in fact for another 9 or 10 years.
Several polls show the American people don't care what Gen. Betrayus says because they know he's just catapulting Bush-Cheney propaganda. According to USA Today, 53% believe he will deliver "a biased report that reflects what the Bush administration wants the public to believe." Only 39% believe the report will honestly and accurately reflect Betrayus' true assessment of the situation in Iraq. The ABC/Pentagon Post poll shows identical results: 53% think Petraeus will try to make things look better than they really are, while only 39% expect it to honestly reflect the situation in Iraq. Americans understand Betrayus is just lipsynching for Cheney.
And why the fuck are Gen. Betrayus and Amb. Ryan Crocker giving their first (only?) interviews to FOX News? Obviously Betrayus and Crocker are just rightwing propagandists and should be fired.
Moveon plagiarized us their NY Times ad today: "Gen. Petraeus or Gen. Betray Us?" This is driving wingnuts insane and they are calling Democratic Congressional offices demanding denunciations of Moveon. How about demanding denunciations of George Bush for starting a disastrous war of lies that has killed, maimed, and displaced millions?
Here's a poll of the people who really matter in all of this - the Iraqi people. About 70% of Iraqis believe security has deteriorated in the area covered by the US military "surge" of the past six months. 45% want an immediate American withdrawal. Most strikingly, in Baghdad and even in Anbar - touted as the area of greatest US success - attitudes towards the surge were 100% negative. Nearly 60% see attacks on US-led forces as justified. This rises to 93% among Sunni Muslims compared to 50% for Shia. And Betrayus' greatest "success" is getting the "support" of Sunnis in Anbar? Those Sunnis support us so much that they can't wait to kill us.
Josh Marshall points out that all of the so-called "statistics" used by Betrayus are classified. Why? Obviously the whole truth is the opposite of the cherry-picked facts cited by Betrayus.
Want statistics? Iraqi civilian deaths increased from 1980 in July to 2318 in August. U.S. soldier deaths reached a new Jun-Aug high of 282, up from 175 last Jun-Aug.
Gen. Betrayus' superior officer is Adm. William Fallon, head of Centcom, which commands all U.S. forces across the Middle East. Fallon wants to cut U.S. combat forces in Iraq by three-quarters by 2010 so he can deal with other Middle East threats. So how are Betrayus and Fallon getting along? "Bad relations?" said a senior civilian official with a laugh. "That's the understatement of the century. . . . If you think Armageddon was a riot, that's one way of looking at it."
The NY Times apparently wants the military to decide when to end (and start?) wars, rather than democratically-elected civilians. Should the Times be put on trial for advocating a military coup?
At 8 a.m. this morning, CNN's John Roberts allowed Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) to viciously attack Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), including the always-popular "Democrat Party" insult. Memo to John Roberts - you are now permanently known as yet another Republican operative. Congratulations!
At 11 a.m. this morning, CNN let Gen. David Grange spout Cheney propaganda without challenge by Heidi Collins. Guess what - we've got military "momentum"! We're taking the fight "to the enemy." Why it's 2003 all over again! CNN=Crappy Non News. Forget the damn lying generals - show us more Britney!
