Iraq just held an election where at least results were posted at polling places and Diebold wasn't the only one permitted to know the results, so you'd think we could bring the troops home now (scroll down).  The news from Iraq is not all good though, depite what you may have read.

Here's something nice: Texas Judge Rules Death Penalty Unconstitutional

Imagine if students knew all the money went to the military and thought they could stop it: California students angry about higher-ed cutbacks rock campuses  Speaking of which, if you can't afford college and join the military, you may get electrocuted by KBR, which will then get big new government contracts.

For the 1000th day in a row most of the content of liberal blogs is devoted to rightwingers and the corporate media and other groups we've voted out of power, have no use for, or simply excel at repulsiveness.

Imagine the uproar if the gunman at the Pentagon had been Muslim or anything other than a white American: 'Lone wolf' anti-government extremist opens fire at the Pentagon. But let's not call it terrorism.

Oh, and shockingly they gave the oscar for best movie to the pro-war one and dissed the sci-fi condemnation of empire just when a couple of people had considered the possibility of recognizing it for what it was.

On the plus side, Keith Richards has responded to claims he was in rehab with: "Reports of my sobriety have been greatly exaggerated."

David,

I realize this may sound like quibbling, but 'The Hurt Locker' was assuredly NOT 'pro-war'.  It showed the addiction some develop to the extreme risk-taking that the central character was engaged in and, by extention, to war itself.  Quite the opposite of being 'pro-war'.  I loved 'Avatar' as well, and really thought it would get 'best picture', but 'The Hurt Locker' is probably the picture that will stay with me longer.  I just don't see how anyone who actually saw the movie could consider it 'pro-war'.  Nor do I agree with the stance that some members of IAVA have taken that it disrespects the military.  It was not a documentary, and no one should view it as purporting to portray 'normal' (whatever that may be) military behavior.  It was a character study in the setting of the Iraq war. Period.

Now, do you have any idea where I can find demographics on NRA membership?  I keep hitting dead-ends (pun only partially intended).

Sincere thanks!

'Hurt Locker' was NOT pro war, quite the contrary.

"At the present time, NRA has approximately 4.3 million members. NRA does not compile demographic information on members."

On the floor as I type, I am listening to C-span.org and OUR troops are coming home I really do think they are UNITED in this.

This is great news.  Too much corruption from private contractors stranding our soldiers and not sending help because of civilian risk.  The fight is too condensed in the population, and there are a few Isreal supporters who are holding out to continue.  But WE can go.  Our constitution doesn't allow for "nation building' with no end of enemies in site.  They want US out, then WE get the heck out if AlQueida isn't there. We have no rif with insurgent freedom fighters who see US there as occupation.

Bush Generals messed up, but thank God we caught it in time.  America has made many enemies over the last 30 years that WE don't even hear about.

Thank you Dennis Kucinich and others on the other side of the isle.  America first, we are in dire straights in our economy and the "real" enemy is still planning and plotting.  We need the best of intelligience without bias for this enemy.

If any of you hasn't read Bin Laden's son's story in Rolling Stone, I recommend it.  It shows the depths of the creation of enemies, if WE don't leave and let them resolve their own cultural differences as they have for thousands of years.

There is NO fighting a diety idolature.  Their vision is in NO way civilized when confronted, especially if they command nations.

pro-war or not the film is just awesome! gives much food for thought. frankly speaking after watching the trailer I didn't expect to be so deep and interesting, thinking here is another military thriller. glad I was so wrong.
