One click: 10 Ways to Get Involved
AlterNet is all about inspiring action and advocacy on important issues like the environment, human rights and social justice, to name a few. To help bring attention to the huge upswing in organizing and activism happening across the country, we've just launched our Top Ten Hottest Take Action Campaigns feature. It's designed to give AlterNet's millions of monthly readers fast, direct access to organizations, ongoing grassroots movements, and important information they need to more effectively participate in the political process.
The take action box is updated regularly every Tuesday (and with breaking news as necessary) with new action summaries from all over, keeping readers informed about which campaigns are peaking, and which are taking off and need their attention.
For example this week's top campaign, organized by Amnesty USA, urges readers to help "Save Troy Davis's Life." Davis faces execution for the murder of Police Officer Mark MacPhail in Georgia, despite a strong claim of innocence. As Amnesty reports, "7 out of 9 witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony, no murder weapon was found and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. The Georgia Board of Pardon and Paroles has voted to deny clemency, yet Governor Perdue can still exercise leadership to ensure that his death sentence is commuted." Amnesty is urging people to send letters and emails to the governor asking him to support clemency for Davis. AlterNet's take action box, featured prominently at the top of our our front page, is helping drive people to Amnesty's site to do just that.
