Adam Sullivan will Primary Rep. Jerrold Nadler over Impeachment

From our friends at AskNadler2Impeach.org:

Adam Sullivan has thrown his hat in the ring to challenge Jerry Nadler for blocking impeachment hearings on the House Judiciary Committee.

Adam Sullivan is a theater artist who has been living and working in the Eighth Congressional District of New York for the last eleven years. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University in 1991, and hails originally from Hartford, Connecticut. A highly-trained improvisational performer and actor, he has directed and produced theater and radio drama on the professional, workshop and showcase levels. A skilled communicator, he has also taught theater arts and production, improvisation, scene study and more to students of all ages.

Adam grew up in a politically active household: his mother was an activist, his stepfather a Connecticut State Senator. In his youth he worked on the landmark mayoral campaign of Thirman Milner, Hartford's (and New England's) first African-American mayor, and marched on Washington alongside veteran peace and justice advocates including Jesse Jackson and Pete Seeger. After a long political hiatus, Adam returned to activism after the 2000 election fiasco and the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Using theater and public speaking, Adam seeks to further the causes of peace, justice and our badly battered Constitution.

We are kicking off the vital task of getting Adam on the ballot with a petitioning/pizza party on Friday, June 6th - D-Day! We need 1250 valid signatures of registered Democrats in the 8th Congressional District and the signatures can be gathered by any registered Democrat in New York State. (We'll probably need about 4,000 signatures to avoid a challenge.) If you qualify to carry the petitions, please come and meet this extraordinary candidate and pick up your petitions, contribute to the campaign, learn about petitioning if you need a refresher course. Or if you're not a registered Democrat, but believe as Adam and we do, that it is critical that Nadler not remain unchallenged, come along and help the campaign. There's lots to do!

Friday, June 6th
545 West End Avenue, Apt. 6C, NYC (between 86th and 87th Streets)
6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

If you can't make this party, petitions will be available at other locations. RSVP to adamsullivan@democrats.com and let us know if you can attend on Friday, or if you wish to make other arrangement to pick up petitions.

Here is a message from Adam:

"For too long, we have let the Democrats in Congress capitulate, yield and cede the mandate of their majority to a phantom of political pressure, or to a never-fulfilled promise of partisan gain. Our own representative from the 8th CD of New York, Jerrold Nadler, holds one of the most important committee positions with respect to taking up the resolution to begin impeachment proceedings against a reckless and criminal vice president. If you ask him 'Why aren't you moving on impeachment?,' he answers that there is no support for it in Congress, that he doesn't have the authority to do anything, and that he has a better idea than impeachment which he will take up only after the new administration begins in January.

Congressman Jerrold Nadler has failed to fulfill his oath of office. We all love his progressive work and liberal voting record, but when the Constitution is in jeopardy, he bows to pressure from party leaders. This is unacceptable.

For this reason I, Adam Sullivan, am challenging Mr. Nadler for the nomination of the Democratic Party for his Congressional seat. The 8th Congressional District deserves real representation, and meaningful action to hold the Bush administration accountable for its high crimes and misdemeanors.

If you, like me, are unsatisfied with Congress stalled on impeachment proceedings, why not join our campaign? We will be petitioning over the next month to put my name on the ballot, since this seems to be the only way to hold Nadler accountable for his failure.

Come to 545 West End Avenue, Apt. 6C, NYC (between 86th and 87th Streets) on Friday night. I'd really like the opportunity to meet you, another citizen concerned about the fate of our Nation's beating heart, the Constitution."

In solidarity,

Adam Sullivan
Candidate for Congress in the 8th CD
