21 Progressive Democrats Must End the Wars

Petition

To: Yvette Clarke, Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, Jerry Costello, Barney Frank, Luis Gutierrez, Jay Inslee, Steve Kagen, John Lewis, Edward Markey, Doris Matsui, Jim McDermott, George Miller, Grace Napolitano, Richard Neal, James Oberstar, Jan Schakowsky, Mike Thompson, Edolphus Towns, Nydia Velázquez, and Anthony Weiner.

It's campaign season and you desperately want our support - especially our money.

But why should we support you if you don't support us?

Bush's disastrous wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have cost taxpayers over $1 TRILLION already. Now President Obama wants another $33 BILLION to send 30,000 MORE U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

A majority of Americans want to end Bush's wars and bring our troops home now. That's why we put progressive Democrats in power in 2006 and 2008.

And with the national debt soaring over $13 TRILLION, America cannot afford endless, futile wars.

In 2009, House Progressives had two chances to use the "power of the purse" to end the wars by opposing the $97 Billion War Supplemental. On May 14, you voted against war funds. But on June 16, when 32 true Progressives voted No and we needed just 7 more Progressives to end the wars, you sorely disappointed us.

You can redeem your 2009 pro-war vote now by voting against the $33 Billion War Supplemental for 2010.

If you want us to support your campaign, you must vote no and end the wars. We are watching closely.

Sincerely,

Background

It's campaign season and House Progressives desperately want our support - especially our money.

On May 14, 51 Progressives voted against war funds. But on June 16, when 32 true Progressives voted No (1) and we needed just 7 more Progressives to end the wars, 21 sorely disappointed us.

They were: Yvette Clarke, Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, Jerry Costello, Barney Frank, Luis Gutierrez, Jay Inslee, Steve Kagen, John Lewis, Edward Markey, Doris Matsui, Jim McDermott, George Miller, Grace Napolitano, Richard Neal, James Oberstar, Jan Schakowsky, Mike Thompson, Edolphus Towns, Nydia Velázquez, and Anthony Weiner.

These 21 Progressives can redeem their 2009 pro-war votes now by voting against the $33 Billion War Supplemental for 2010.

If they want us to support their campaign, they must vote no and end the wars. We are watching closely.

(1) The 32 Progressive Heroes of June 16 were: Tammy Baldwin, Michael Capuano, John Conyers, Lloyd Doggett, Donna Edwards, Keith Ellison, Sam Farr, Bob Filner, Alan Grayson, Raul Grijalva, Michael Honda, Marcy Kaptur, Dennis Kucinich, Barbara Lee, Zoe Lofgren, Eric Massa, Jim McGovern, Michael Michaud, Donald Payne, Chellie Pingree, Jared Polis, Jose Serrano, Carol Shea-Porter, Brad Sherman, Jackie Speier, Pete Stark, John Tierney, Nikki Tsongas, Maxine Waters, Diane Watson, Peter Welch, and Lynn Woolsey.
